The problem with international shipping is import tax. Not that we can't buy with bitcoins.

Import tax will be there even if you pay using credit card.

But you will save some money on foreign transaction fee using bitcoin.

I also expect overstock to give some discount for those using bitcoins, after some time.
After all, they make some savings on the credit card transaction charges.

This is true in theory but in reality the shops usually increase by 3-5% the price if the costumer pays with btc.

I would not be surprised to see this sometime in the future. I would personally consider the most likely time to see this would be would be around the black Friday/cyber Monday sales that most retailers try to use to gain market share and become profitable for the entire year.

Hope to see it soon. And if it is successful in driving up sales, we can expect all merchants to follow suit.  Smiley

I would not at all be surprised if they are the first major merchant to do this. Once they would implement some kind of discount for paying in BTC they will likely set a precedent for other merchants. (I have read about newegg having some kind of promotion for people that buy a specific product in BTC, but I think this is too specific to be considered a "discount" for paying in BTC).

Their CEO is very pro bitcoin. They are going to pay their employees' bonuses in BTC this year and are retaining 10% of their BTC revenue in their "coffers"

They are making a very big bet on bitcoin and this is not at all unexpected IMO.

The employees who choose to get paid in BTC are going to get a little bit extra as well. Isn't that wonderful.  Smiley

I've been reading about this for days now, but when will it be anounced officially by overstock? Also we will still get fucked by international transport taxes.

Bitcoins are great for Overstock or any other supplier that accepts Bitcoins, so they should consider giving a discount for payments with Bitcoins. That will also motivate more users to start using Bitcoins.

Good way to expand customer base without added risk of payment fraud.

They should give higher discount to bitcoin users since the transaction fee and fraud rate are lower.

I thought this was pretty sweet. I was watching some T.V. last week and there was a Overstock.com commercial!  It stated that they are now accepting Bitcoin. I was quite shocked to be honest.

Finally is all I can see was trying to purchase something from overstock from the great white north
The use bitcoin option didn't show up so I just postphoned the purchase for a while longer
Now if they can get cheaper shipping services it would be golden.
