Topic: Overview of all airline & flight ticket sites that accept bitcoin (Read 1143 times)

It's really awesome when online services take cryptocurrencies as a payment method for purchasing airline tickets. Of course, we have a lot of online services which allow us to get the cheapest airline tickets, with cool discounts for any destination, like this service ( url: airbusinessclass.com ), but it would be really awesome if all of them would accept cryptocurrencies for those tickets.

This is a a positive move for those that want Bitcoin to evolve into a mainstream currency that can be used for the purchase of everyday goods and utilities, and it could lead to competitors also offering a Bitcoin payment option. The immediate knock-on effect could be that Expedia will start accepting Bitcoin for flight bookings, in addition to hotel bookings that you can already make with the crypto-currency. By becoming the first airline to accept Bitcoin, airBaltic have surely stolen a march on everybody else. However, they have missed a trick. The dreaded transaction fee. Yet, a processing and handling fee typically refers to processing the payment part of the booking, so where in this case there is practically none, it is not clear why this expense still applies, as surely the handling of the booking itself would already be accounted for in its salaries and expenses, as after all as that is the main purpose and reason for the businesses existence, it would seem pretty odd not to have this factored in to their costs already.

Is travelbybit reliable?
Can someone tell me if bought the tickets and everything went well?

With BTC going back up, these kinds of topics become relevant again. I wasn't willing to spend mine at low prices.

I just booked a flight with TravelbyBit and all went good.

Came across it through this blog: https://pokerceo.io/crypto/travel-with-bitcoin-and-crypto/

They've been around for a long time and have been involved with other established projects and businesses like Brisbane airport. I haven't used them myself but I'd say they're a more solid bet than most places. There are also some positive reviews beyond the usual crypto echo chambers.

Added Travelbybit.com.

They are also the payment processor for Brisbane Airport (and other AUS) merchants that accept crypto (even LN.) And they got some investors like Binance, so not some random new company. They also don't use a third-party for payments, so that is always a plus.

Just WOW. 14 companies accepting Bitcoin for private jets while there are only a handful of them for retail flights? This is something I had not expected. But anyway the larger the adoption the better.

They're appealing to early adopters and ICO con artists and expecting them to be into the idea of throwing their free money around. They appeal to vanity. I guess there is enough of their ICO money still around, or rather our money, that hasn't yet been fully squandered.

Added m2jets.com, monarchairgroup.com, vegasexpressjet.com, priorityonejets.com, simplecharters.com, navair.com.au, flyzuum.com, avionejet.com and privatejethiredirect.com. All companies that offer private jet flights. Actually made a "Private jet" category considering there are already 14 of them.

I often use Cheapair, they have great sales

They also accept Litecoin, DASH and Bcash (1). During the recent Litecoin summit, they were also offering discounts on Litecoin payments (2).

Lol, I actually have considered putting them in the list. Since 2013 Virgin Galactic indeed accepts bitcoin: Buy your space flight with bitcoin (ticket is $250k worth.) The Winklevoss brothers already bought tickets in 2014.

Meh, they are all the way down in the list at the "Specials" category, so I think it's okay. I also don't think debit cards are really comparable because they take a lot more time to order (and frequently have KYC/AML for higher limits etc), while thebigcoin.io seems to provide a quicker direct service.

But I obviously agree that I prefer direct providers. Note that sites like Destinia and Cheapair also just book (all or at least some) flights with their credit cards directly from the airline sites. They just have an automated system for it and charge a bit less than thebigcoin.io, so it's a bit more reasonable.

(PS, on the topic of debit cards... for those wondering.. currently this seems the best crypto debit card overview)

Just saw someone ordered Easyjet tickets by using a service called thebigcoin.io ("order anything online and pay with crypto" service.) So added it to the overview Smiley

Seems somewhat convenient and you can probably buy all possible plane tickets with it, but a relatively high fee of 7-12%. They are on bitcointalk too.

Going on those criteria you may as well list crypto debit cards too. It's just a different way of buying anything with a cut just like them. I'd prefer no middle men in the list myself.

Does there really exist such thing? Bitcoin flights? I knew one of Japan airlines (if I am correct) was planning this but didn't know if it was ever released in real life. Thank you OP for sharing it...
Which website is 100 legit to buy tickets? I mean international flights with any line, for example take Turkish Airlines. Thebigcoin has very high fees, it even doesn't worth to use.

I had seen this thread before and it do helps me when it comes on booking a flight online. I was aware or do notice the announcement of coins.ph that they are already into online booking with flights. I saw the guide wayback before and tried it myself and book without any hassle on falling inline just to book a ticket. Its done thru online with just simple steps. How good for local wallets or mechants do offer this specially for people who do actively make travel to other places.  Btw i merited this post.  Cheesy

So I just noticed Expedia doesn't accept bitcoin anymore due to Coinbase stopping custodial merchant tools.

Cheapair also used Coinbase, but switched to BTCPay server so (AFAIK) they are the first in this list to use a self-hosted non-custodial open-source solution.. pretty awesome Smiley

NLNico, are you adding flights only or other travel related info as well? Hotels etc
Yes, only flights. Basically for hotels there is Expedia.com that accepts bitcoin (make sure to go to the .com - not local.) I don't feel like making an overview of all the other hotel sites, because Expedia is huge and IMO just the site to use for hotels :x

So for now, there is destinia.com, cheapair.com, abitsky.com, etc for hotels too.. or one of the gift card sites for a Hotels.com coupon (if you prefer to do it that way.) But maybe I will make a more complete overview for hotels in the future as well Smiley

I have good experiences with Destinia and Abitsky. In general, I definitely don't guarantee that any of them are trustworthy though Tongue Up to everyone to do their own research etc.

BTW, someone from the "Payments Race" mentioned "future.travel" (booked ticket with them): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0qrn82PhOM so there is that.

I haven't see this for a while an overview of all airline accepting bitcoin as payments, but yeah we need to do our own research for precaution.

I guess there could be some information about asia airlines will accept bitcoin in the future as payment for the ticket or it is all possibilities I'm thinking of traveling in Japan.

Has anyone tried future.travel yet? I'm willing to book a couple of flight but would like to see if there are any reviews.
Yeah, I find it a tricky one.

On one hand, they really do look like a small regular travel agency in Vietnam (for example if you look on their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/FutureTravel-1504447956442155/) - so that's positive!

On the other hand, a small travel agency could scam or just be a complete fake company (TBH their FB reviews look legit - but again... could "in theory" be faked.)

So yeah..... who will be the first bitcointalk member to try them out lol Cheesy

I would assume that someone from here that knows this, is there any site which allows you to buy gift cards to one of the big airlines' companies (American Airlines, Delta, Southwest, etc) with crypto? I'd rather not have to deal with one of these random sites when I'm ordering my tickets so I'm just able to pay directly to ensure that everything is 100 percent OK.
Uh.. there are several gift card options with exactly these 3 airlines in the overview ? :p

Well, I was just going to mention that for few months now you can book a hotel for TZC, which isn't even in top 100 alts. Cool, eh?

There's another travel agency "Agencia de viajes virtual" (apparently, they accept BTCicoin and few other crypto-currencies):

You guys are totally right, let me explain more, i own a virtual travel agency with my wife for a little more than two years now, we accept the traditional payment methods and a few months we started accepting cryptos.
We are associated with a multinational company based un the US (miami), it's a legit bussines, you can check it on the web site.

The site to buy is https://www.agenciadeviajesvirtual.com/Home/Index/49153?pais=USA

In case you want to pay your flight tickets with cryptos choose the Ewallet option
Remember Bitcoin, Litecoin and dogecoin

Take note: I wasn't able to find any reviews + they don't have a user-friendly website.

According to that Destinia Bitcoin options are a lottery. You won't find out whether a flight is payable in BTC until you actually try to.
Sounds pretty strange. Personally, I do actually have good experiences with Destinia but obviously sucks to find out if a flight doesn't work with bitcoin in last step.

The ticket prices indeed highly depend on the specific airlines/flights. Destinia and some others do have some low-cost EU carriers like Transavia, Vueling, easyJet, etc. (bit depends on the countries if you need those Tongue) But most times the BTC sites do have some % premium Sad So I would still always recommend people to double check prices among fiat sites as well (Momondo, matrix.itasoftware.com, etc.)

For Brits and possibly Europeans another option is gift cards from Giftoff for Virgin flights and flights booked via Lastminute. With Lastminute you can't use gift cards to book holidays, only flights plus hotels.

https://giftoff.com/gift-cards/virgin

https://giftoff.com/gift-cards/lastminute-com

They use Bitpay and I've never had an issue with them.

I've often found the BTC specific flight sellers can be insanely more expensive than going through the normal flight sites. In Europe particularly there are a lot of very cheap airlines that the BTC sites never seem to list so you might be missing out on a 3-4x saving for the same flight.
