Still, I don't know how it works because in the heading he mentioned spare bandwidth share we get paid in Bitcoin, but after many discussions, I find it is just like BitTorrent then how can we get paid by sharing the Bandwidth simply.

it seems to be a pretty good idea though i really doubt that anyone will pay good amount of bitcoins just for seeding though its just my opinion

Yeah, I don't see how someone would pay someone else for a "rare" file.
Legally speaking, this wouldn't be file sharing anymore and it would give a better grip to copyright holders for law suits, assuming you share copyrighted content.

I think the reason this has not launched is legality of files being shared.  Sadly a lot of the top torrents are stolen/illegal/etc.   Yes there are some legit uses of it but illegal files kinda have a huge hold over it.

I don't see this launching I think they made it, but they must be having trouble at the legal part.  If they receive money from others sharing movies/games  that were not authorized they would be in trouble aswell most likely.

i dont think that because the Dev is just making software. what the users share is the problem of the users.

the software will be released in the next months.

The technology and concept sounds awesome, and I'd love a passive form of BTC revenue, but the legality will be a huge killer.

Movie studios and other big content creators are already crazy when it comes to regulating the spread of their content, but imagine what it'd be like if other people made money off of what they create. Despite most of us being proponents of P2P technology, and some of us being fine with pirating movies/shows/music, being paid to pirate media is crossing the line for a lot of people.

This makes me wonder, (should JoyStream take off) will there be any market for legal torrents? I could imagine people would appreciate (and pay a small amount for) the decentralized and (mostly) trustless distribution methods for things like their OS (Linux) or their wallet (Bitcoin Core/XT/etc) or independent-artists/companies that can't afford a CDN.

I'd at least check it out. Entering my email and clicking the sign up button didn't do anything on Chromium.

Anyone know the pay rate for this site ?
I've visited that site but i couldn't find how much they pay us

Maybe we can use VPN which give us high bandwitch to earn profit Grin

VPNs only reroute connections, not adding bandwidth to them. I don't see how using a VPN could actually help you in this one.

So from what I understand, you need to pay to have your content seeded?  What's the point?  As stated above, torrents are meant to be free. The only way I see this working is with unique content only, since there's mass amounts of files roaming around elsewhere.

It's the other way around, they will pay you because of your content. The more unique a content is, the higher your pay will be. Yes, torrents are meant to be free, but there are also torrent files that contain some malicious software inside them. If a content is carefully scanned and is safe from any attacks or exploitation, I don't see anything wrong in paying for such a content, given that you will also be provided with high-speed downloads.

I understand that you get paid for seeding but from this quote on the website,
Quote
Paid Seeding

Anyone with spare bandwith can use JoyStream and earn Bitcoin, at what ever price they choose, in exchange for seeding to peers. If you have some rare content which no one else has, you are rewarded by being able to charge higher prices.

The seeders charge the peers for having the content seeded?

JoyStream, the world’s first bitcoin-based BitTorrent client is set to have an alpha release for a limited amount of pre-signed users on the Bitcoin Testnet soon.

Founded by Dr. Bedeho Mender, JoyStream attempts to improve the levels of bandwidth contribution and the lack of incentives for content providers known as seeders in the original BitTorrent client, by rewarding JoyStream’s seeders with micropayments using multiway payment channels in bitcoin.

...

In other words, JoyStream wants to create a market scenario to solve the tragedy of the commons found  in the torrenting world, where users currently have every incentive to download (leech) but much less incentive to share (seed).
