As for Paro winning on one judge’s scorecard, I think that’s fair - after all, he was the champion, right? But in the end, it doesn’t matter since Hitchins still won the fight. However, I have to say, I’m not too impressed with Hitchins’ boxing skills. I’m afraid he might not last long as a champion.

Every judge has their own perspective on how they will judge the fight; some weigh on the power of the punches, and some judges base it on the punches landed, but when everyone is unanimous on their decision and you are not, then something is wrong in how you handle your decision.
Hitchins is not an extraordinary fighter; its just that he studied Paro, he has done his assignment, and it pays off if he faces Subriel. Subriel has a chance of beating him because he loves to go toe to toe.

Yeah, as it he is watching a different fight, so not sure what that one judge has seen to make that score. And with that big upset, Hitchins says that he wants Lopez next. But Top Rank might have another fighter in mind for Lopez for next year.

There were doubts about Hitchins because of his performance against Peros, which is also a bit controversial decision win for Hitchins. But this time, it's totally different, he dominated the champion so there's no doubt that he won this fight.

@coin-investor, thank you for sharing the fight highlights! I missed this match, but I’m glad there’s a video to catch up on. Based on the highlights, it seems Paro was the more aggressive fighter, but he was also careless, so I’m not surprised that an upset happened.

The decision by one of the judges is very questionable. I checked the official scorecard of the fight and have watched the replays of the highlights, especially the championship rounds 10, 11, and 12 several times, and its very obvious that Hitchins got better of the exchanges. 2 of the judges scored it 2-1 rounds in favor of Hitchins but one of the judges, Nelson Vazquez, scored it 0-3 in favor of Paro.
I don't know where and how Judge Vazquez was looking at the fight, but you have to score the fight when its obvious. Hitchins was so frustrated with the Judge Vazquez scorecard, it was read first with a wide gap in favor of Paro.

We almost missed this one. Liam Paro was upset by Hitchins to win the IBF World Junior Welterweight 117-110 to Paro and the two judges scored the fight 116-112 for Hitchins, I thought it was an unaninous decision because although it was a close fight, Hitchins shows patience and wins a lot of points coming from counterpunching.
It was a big turn of events, Paro losing the title in his first defense, on the place he won against Subrial Matias

Here is the highlight of the fight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCq5A2xd41Q

I thought these fighters were evenly matched, and Hitchins was a bit more skilled, so I wouldn’t consider it an upset. Paro might have been overestimated because he beat Subriel Matias, who is a one-trick pony.

Hitchins called out Teofimo, but I expect the next opponent to be George Kambosos, who was just signed by Eddie Hearn and they are trying to squeeze what little value remains of him.
What do you think of the style though, I seeing a similar style between Kambosos and Paro, and I just thought that I was watching George there will Hitchins, although both are Australian so that is the similarity already. Nevertheless, yeah, it could be that Paro caught Matias in the bad situation, maybe Matias did overtrain during that fight. But let's see, I wanted Teo Lopez before Kambosos. If I'm in promoter of Hitchins, thta will be my main target as Teo has a lot to offer. But if Lopez doesn't want to fight, then it's going to be a good opportunity for Kambosos to have that kind of opportunity. If I'm not mistaken, if we look at the records, George is still a 135 lbs. But it's obvious that he might have difficulty making that weight and so it makes sense for him to go up at Jr. Welterweight. But for sure there will be boxers who might question him being a contender on his first fight, but that's boxing politics for you. They can skip those mandatories.

Palo's lost was definitely shocking to many fans who followed him and they're expecting too much from them as fight going to commence. However, there's still chance on him for his coming challenges but it's really hard for him when his opponent will be much stronger than him even though he got that huge advantage. Soon we'll see him for his moves once there's another match coming for him and it's a great redemption for his record.

Yeah, it was his patience and counter punching that really make him win in this fight. He knows that Paro will be aggressive and so he time Paro coming it and then with that straight right. He also had a good and very sharp jab as well.

It's ironic that Paro beat a Puerto Rican in Subrial Matias in his home town. But then lost to another Puerto Rican in Hitchins. So yeah, why not call out Teo Lopez. Let's see if Teo is going to take the call and usually though for Teo the better the competition, the better that we have seen him fight.

To be honest, I didn't watch the fight because everyone is hype on the Navarette vs Valdez fight. And so when I saw the news that Paro losses his belt, and reading the interview of Hitchins that Liam was just a one trick pony, and he could be right as he upset the champion and now he is the IBF Junior Welterweight.

The scores were 117-111 (Paro), 116-112 (Hitchins), and 116-112 (Hitchins).

Forget about Matias, Hitchins is now calling Teo Lopez for unification. I don't know but it could be a repeat, as he might lose that belt in this first attempt if he fought Lopez in the future. Teo is still the man at 140 lbs, lineal champion and I do think that he can unify all the belts if he wants to at this division.

At least on this fight, Paro admitted that it was Hitchins night, no excuses. But he said, he will be back and this fight served him as a lesson. So we don't know if Paro's camp will ask for a rematch or Hitchins will get his next fight with Teofimo Lopez. It will now depend on their respective promoters how they will arrange the next fight for Hitchins.

We don't know if there is a rematch clause, although if I'm not mistaken, there is a practice that the champion will have to exercise a rematch clause. It's because they want to get it back if they losses, so in this case, maybe there is one.

But Paro didn't mentioned it, and then Hitchins is calling Teo Lopez for a fight. So I might speculate that there is none. Maybe Paro is confident that he will win this fight. Unfortunately, the scores seems to be lopsided and it was a easy call for the judges to give the W to Hitchins.

On the next Hitchin's fight, definitely, the odds will favor on him but if with Lopez, the odds may be near with each other.

It's really a total f**k up on Subriel Matias, he is supposedly the new face of this division, the most avoided fighter and there were reports that Teo Lopez doesn't want any piece of him. And so DAZN put up a great fight for him in his native Puerto Rico, but then he lost the fight obviously and it's going to be a outcry if they try to home cooked that fight as Paro really prepared for that fight and was not afraid to go toe to toe with Matias.

Subriel just won a TKO against the undermatched Ramirez as expected. He is still the pressure fighter that he is but this time he is very aggressive in ending the fight early, so if Paro wins the match against Hitchins, there is a possibility of a rematch, but I doubt based on what I see in this match that Subriel can still match Paro's skill. One of the weaknesses of Subriel is that he is so concentrated on his offense that he is open for counterpunchers like Paro.
Ramirez is such a weak fighter that he cannot take the opportunity to counterpunch Subriel, who is very open, because he does not have good lateral movement like Paro had.
Its good that Subriel wins, but he needs a better fighter than Ramirez to fight before he gets a title shot.

Speaking of Subriel Matias, he has a fight against Roberto Ramirez, obviously it's a tune up fight for him. Trying to get back that confidence, and so he is a big favorite as Ramirez is 13:1 underdog.

His camp did the right thing not to be in a hurry to get into the top standing by fighting top-level fighter, Just imagine Subriel was touted as the next thing in the super lightweight and his title defense was held in his native land of Puerto Rico and you lost by a decision, Adding insult to injury, DAZN dropped Subriel, so he needs to get his confidence back.
I'm still hoping that there will be a rematch between Subriel and Paro, and hopefully it will happen after they dispose of their respective opponents.

As far as the odds goes for this fight, this is 50/50 for me. Hitchins might have a good chance here against Paro, although Hitchins last win was also controversial as there are fans says that he lost that one. But let's see how this fight, it might go in 12 rounds and gonna be hard to score.

Hitchins becomes the mandatory fighter who challenges Paro for the title and of course this is not an easy fight for Paro to defend his title even though he previously defeated Subriel Matias, there is no fighter like Paro and this is the only chance for him to prove that he is the best for the IBF super lightweight division.
I saw some news about Paro that he is very confident in this fight but Hitchins will also make Paro really feel tough fight because Hitchins himself also always fights well.

Before the win against Subriel Matias, Paro was considered an unproven prospect. If he beats Hitchins it will prove that he is no fluke and can really compete at the world level.

Hitchins won a controversial decision in his last fight but this is a great chance to redeem himself. Paro is only a slight favorite due to having more experience but Hitchins has the skill to overcome this disadvantage. They are very evenly matched and I could see this ending in a close decision either way.

Yeah, it could really be a close decision win but it's hard to see who will win in this fight. As what we have said, style makes fight and so this two had similar style as well. Paro though will be the slight favorite. And the winner will probably fight for unification next, so the result will be very interesting as this weight class could be one of the best for next year with Teo Lopez leading and maybe we will see Haney goes back, same with Ryan Garcia.

I consider that a huge upset Paro was coming as a huge underdog and Subriel as a huge favorite to win the match considering his perfect record and the fight was held in Puerto Rico Subriel's territory, with that win Paro is considered a fighter to watch, you are the man if you happens to beat the manso he is the man right now.

Both fighters looks even but I have Paro as my favorite to win the match he has beaten what people considered a top dog in that division so I believe he can also pull this one. I like his style very calm and technical thinking fighters are always a step ahead.

I wonder why the fight is going to be held in Puerto Rico Both are not natives of that country, and since Paro just won the title, he should opt to hold his first title defense in Australia. I checked on Hitchin's previous fights, and he is not considered on Paro's level, but the determination is there in his every fight. He will have a hard time with Paro, but I don't rule out an upset. If Paro upsets Subriel Matias why not Hitchins?
I got curious so I did some digging and found this article(1) and from the headlines it mentioned that "Puerto Rican stars feature on stacked undercard", so I am guessing the reason they are fighting in Puerto Rico is because of the stacked Puerto Rican undercards
I read that Hearns is the promoter of the fight; he should have done Paro a favor by holding the fight in Australia, and Paro is insisting that the fight be held there.
Well, I guess the reason Paro agreed is because the Puerto Ricans are not hostile to him. Even though he took the title from their promising boxer, Subriel Matias, I hope Hitchins wins the fight so he can have a title fight in his native country, Australia. He is a hero now in Australia, and the Australians will love to have him fight in Australia.

By the way these are the undercards of the Paro - Hitchins fight, it really is loaded with Puerto Rico boxing stars.
