Knowing that the CTO of Paypal is pushing their "belief" in the blockchain and it seems that they have a good relationship with Coinbase. It's only a matter of time that it comes to fruition. Venmo would probably the company that would roll out the crypto-related things, and this June 2020 article discusses it all as well.

“We are a strong believer in the potential of blockchain. The digitization of currency is only a matter of when not if,” Shivananda said.

Let's see how it will turn out. There's no hiding it that Paypal is interested in the blockchain technology.

It is very strange to see the company I hate "teaming up" with my favourite thing in the world. I still can't decide if this is good or not. I guess maybe it might may bitcoin seem more "legit" in the eye of the general public.
Not that taking the fees PayPal asks for is legit...

I think this might just be a rumour though. Reading the comments I am not alone.

Even if PayPal offers crypto trading, I wouldn't even bother using it.

Just to send from one account to another, I have to pay a hefty 15% surcharge.

Exactly! They will only milk it for all its worth and hit us with massive fees. They obviously must want a piece of the crypto market pie.

There are so many that always give rumors that big companies will issue policies on crypto, so I think it's a rumor and it can't be used as one justification. so this news is made as if to enliven crypto

By considering the demand of present and future, Paypal may have taken decision to support crypto trade into a new brokerage but still the result not came to light.
This must have been the mind changer for the paypal of having cryptocurrency, I'm not really surprised by this actually since I already saw them having a partnership with the coinbase for withdrawal an deposit I kinda thought of this before so people can just withdraw their bitcoins from coinbase to paypal, and paypal is not far to do that, guess what they are coming for it now. "But still the result not came to light" maybe because there is nothing special to it, we got a lot of platform not just only paypal. What's special in an online wallet to support cryptocurrencies? actually none.

If Paypal will introduce such crypto service, it will be a great news for the crypto lovers. But they need to change their terms of service as it is forbidden in their Terms of Service.
Yeah especially with our traders in coinbase coz they can literally withdraw and deposit using paypal in bitcoins. This might attract some new crypto users who find curiosity with bitcoin, this will be fascinating given that digital payment processors these days is getting bigger.
I really love the news about the team up of paypal and crypto because it is indeed a real great opportunity for the crypto community to encourage a lot of people to join crypto trading and crypto world. We all know that paypal is  a well known company around the globe and if they will introduce crypto currency around the globe, more people will likely to join here in crypto world.

If there partnership with Paxos is official I think that Paypal has a good chance that they will be offering crypto trading because there is really no other reason why Paypal will partner up with a crypto related firm without them being at least interested in a crypto related business. I know that Paypal before is against any kind of crypto industry related business as they are also against crypto related transactions being used in their service but with them partnering up with crypto related business I think this is a good sign to say that Paypal have changed their minds with crypto.
If they are seriously looking for them as a backer then it would make complete sense to go with them.
Solely because they are regulated in the toughest regulation area in the planet being New York where they don't allow exchanges to even operate there until they payout for the license to do so which is in the millions.
And paxos has been approved to provide anything to do with blockchain and operating with bitcoin in the state of New york by obtaining this license.
So they are smart in doing it this way if they are looking to really get into accepting a type of crypto with their platform to their already 277 million as of April 2019 (looks like 300 million as of now) existing customer base.

This news is too old now. I don't think paypal gonna introduce crypto too soon on their platform. As @LeGaulois^  said they just rumored the news to pump their stock market price.
Buy the rumor. Wink
I don't think spreading rumors that it will soon likely offer its users the opportunity to directly buy crypto will pump their value.
Quote
And if the rumor becomes true it will take time to create their own crypto. As they are paypal, I am sure they will come with something different then others.
Your gathered rumor may be false. I haven't heard of a single rumor that Paypal is going to create their own crypto. That may not be a rumor at all. That may simply be a plain gossip.
The rumor is that Paypal may offer direct crypto sales on their platform. That's it.
As they say:
Buy the rumor, sell the news! Grin

As the topic says the payment giant company was reportedly plans to introduce crypto trading through a new brokerage service offered by United States stablecoin operator Paxos.
Source

Theres also a rumor that the payment giant company wrote a letter to EU commission just for the development of their own crypto but when they were confronted about it they said "PayPal does not comment on rumors or speculation.”

Learn that news like this dont just happen if something like it is not already happening.
Your thoughts

Yeah, we have been hearing such rumors for quite a long time. But, why are people excited about this? I mean what makes them so unique? All they will be doing is allow users to trade crypto and make some extra money (as a form of fee) from their users. I wouldn't be surprised to see people whining about how their account got blocked or something happened to their funds and taking ages to resolve the case.
People are excited because it will give crypto more awareness and also build common people trust in crypto because some people still believe crypto is mainly use by scammers.

Paypal loves to freeze funds, even if it is from legit sources. Doesn't coinbase provide the exact service paypal is about to provide? Others saying they can link their bank account and withdraw directly, they can also do that with coinsbase. As far as I remember, coinbase does support ACH transactions.
Yes, they does but paypal is the giant and the most respected payment company in the world. Mind you, coinbase still restricted some cohntries.

As the topic says the payment giant company was reportedly plans to introduce crypto trading through a new brokerage service offered by United States stablecoin operator Paxos.
Good luck with that but most of the customers who had their funds confiscated in the past will not dare to trade in their platform and there are other good trading platforms that are doing a good job. It is not a big surprise that these companies are planning their trading platforms because the amount of profits companies like binance and other trading platforms make are really huge.

The profit level of exchange site like Binance in 3 years after the success of it ICO in 2017 will the reason a long existing payment comapny like Paypal choose to join cryptocurrency but dont you think we need to be happy that bitcoin prove all them wrong despite the FUD they spread then.

Theres also a rumor that the payment giant company wrote a letter to EU commission just for the development of their own crypto but when they were confronted about it they said "PayPal does not comment on rumors or speculation.”
I wish the EU commission will shut down these stupid tokens, we just need BTCitcoin and i do not want to see every company coming up with their token.
Crypto is a broad investment and every new project are welcome but only the strong and potential will survive.
Nevertheless, if Satoshi doesn't want the existence of altcoins to happen he won't have publicly post BTC code/protocol for new project owners to imitate.

There are some rumors regarding Paypal being involved to crypto and now they are being involved again in another news and that is crypto trading.

There is no official statement coming from the Paypal owners
sometimes word gets out ahead of time which maybe the reason why they choose not to make any comment about but ask yourself why did they decide not to say anything when they can publicy announce their stance.

It was a good move for paypal to link in cryptocurrency. More people will use their platform if ever it was true and they will give access everyone using crypto to send directly to paypals wallet not just putting up an exchange.

My understanding is that they are going to allow buys and sells of crypto directly from PayPal and Venmo, and that they are going to have some sort of a built-in wallet functionality so you can store it there.

There is no official statement coming from the Paypal owners but I still remember the time where they are against crypto users. Now there are rumors spreading that they are thinking of integrating crypto services in their system. Either way, I'm not interested on this news. If this is the catalyst for the Bitcoin's price to rise then so be it. For sure many newbie investors will accumulate more Bitcoin when they will integrate crypto in their system.

This is like the funniest news I’m reading today lol. So they are all now getting interested in cryptocurrency?? Huh PayPal is not the only company that I have been seeing as of recent that is employing crypto engineers, I have seen a lot of them that are listing jobs in the same category.

We shouldn’t speculate on what we don’t know, it’s better to wait for them to make the proper announcement. No matter how much people to try to pressure them into revealing their plans, they are not going to do it, until they are done with what they are doing and ready to unveil it. And that’s how a company should work, things should be kept a secret until it’s ready to be released.

thats thier concept they love surprises and that makes people more excited but there are companies that slowly released partial updates on what they are gonna be releasing but the effect is the same because people are still excited  .

this isnt funny but this is a good news   .  you may find it funny because paypal is already a payment method and you know that paypal is too ambitious before  .  i have a read a thread before simillar to this , i think this isnt a rumor but its true    .
Yes, that's how they do their business, by making new updates that will make people excited by having new features that will be useful for everyone.

This is good news, but it is better to wait for their official announcement. Because as far as I remember, Paypal prohibits activities involving cryptocurrency. This might be a change of their heart or they have realization regarding this matter.

I just read it from cointele also which Paypal was hiring blockchain engineer which I guess was enough reason for this rumor to spread. They pointed to this job listing https://jobsearch.paypal-corp.com/en-US/job/technical-lead-crypto-engineer/J3W31J65K3R80YP49FL

Developing crypto trading must have been the case for them to employ someone with blockchain skills.  The reason for the denial, its their choice.

I hope it's not merely rumors it would be a great convenience if they'd accept Bitcoin as one of the options in paypal services.
Two sources indicates we might see Cryptocurrencies be accepted in a popular platform this would be a bullish sign that some businesses loss confidence in the monetary system.
