That's because thats how Bitcoin was introduced to them instead of being introduced as somewhat like a currency that can be used Online. But I guess most Bitcoiner's are introduced that way nowadays, except for those that are really here in this forum from the start when signature campaign is no where to be found.

Agreed, because back in the days, bitcoin wasn't that popular and its practical uses weren't even a thing. And it is a bit difficult explaining it to newbies nowadays, so explaining it the easy way with its practical uses are what others are seeing to introduce people to bitcoin.

Lol you almost saying that bitcoin from local should remain in local, it should be in ph thread if op used to write in tagalog. This discussion could be very helpful to ph and bitcoin if people from any other part of the globe can share some good and positive advice. Its very obvious you are raising some personal issues why you keeps putting ph away of bitcoin, stop wasting your time dude bitcoin is not meant to be created only for you, either this forum also.

The thing is, people in our country (well most of them) see bitcoin as some kind of tool where they could get easy money from. I know a lot of people that adapts to bitcoin mainly because they notice how easy it is to profit from all the ponzi/hyip that surrounds the image of bitcoin in our country. Only a few bitcoin users in our country axtually has a deeper understanding of what bitcoin is. I find that as one of the reason as why bitcoin will not reach the mainstream any sooner. They use bitcoin without even knowing how bitcoin works. All they care is how easy it is to earn this "bitcoin". If our fellow kabayan will only view bitcoin like that then I don't think bitcoin will be succesful in our country, well not to those who understand what it really is but it will surely help the bitcoin community to spread in our country if people could take a deeper look to bitcoin rather than seeing only the obvious part.

Exactly. You will see some traits like that in #pangkabuhayan Facebook group (I know you are there too) where majority of people there are living in HYIP and want an easy money. Even the admin there always promotes ponzi then will cry after. I suggested many times that there is a safe sure method to earn BTC's that requires patience and work but majority of them ignoring me and not that serious. How can they have a deeper understanding about what bitcoin is if all of them thinks that bitcoin is just an easy money and nothing to learned about it as long as they receiving coins.

Here we go again..

How come threads from other nation can be discussed outside their local boards while our threads can't? Wouldn't that be hindering freedom of speech and expression in our part? Roll Eyes

Yes it has* but personally I haven't seen one yet although by searching the location just now in one of them, it's just a 5-10 minutes walk in my current workplace lol. Yes exactly in CBD and others are near of it. Maybe I will take a look to check if it's still there.

As of now, Im happy with the instant cashout thru egivecash that coins.ph offered. I can considered it too as bitcoin atm of another version lol.

Hmm never heard of that one. I'll try to take a stroll around it sometime and take pictures of it.

I am in Davao, Mindanao (been here since 1996 mostly) and I concur with all the posts thus far.

It seems the killer app for Bitcoin in the Philippines will be micropayments. And you might end up being able to claim it was invented by a guy in Davao.

I programmed and launched Cool Page from a literal Nipa Hut (on a dialup connection) in 1998 and by 2001 I had 335,000 confirmed web sites (altavista confirmed) produced with the product back when the internet was 1/10 its current population.

I am an experienced programmer and entreprenuer and I have been working on this problem for a while. So stay tuned as 2016 is potentially going to be a very eventful year for crypto.

As far as ATM's i see on facebook several machines installed in Makati areas.

There are bitcoin ATMs in Makati? Haven't heard of that. In what place exactly? In the CBD or not? This might come in handy given that most of my activities are located in Ayala and Mckinley hills.

Nice idea of reviving. And for a start we can do a meetup first for all bitcointalk Pinoy members out there. Smiley Hope Bitcoin PH group will back again to their usual meetups like they always did in the past.

Yep, and if we can't get the old facebook group back, maybe we can create another new one and invite all other Pilipino here in the forum to join and maybe we can do our part to help the bitcoin community group. Smiley

Nice idea but are there still active admin in that group? Just making sure that no conflicts will happen or much better if we will invite them too. Maybe you can start making one. Im with you. Smiley

Well, let's see in our local thread here if everyone is interested in joining the group. They might even know an admin from the old one.

If bitcoin hits the local news like GMA or ABS, or even featured in some of the tech news sites such as Rappler, people will surely take a look at it most especially thee families of OFWs. The thing is, once it got mainstream, expect that the tax division would keep a keen eye on bitcoin users."

There is only one bitcoin ATM there. I wonder if that ATM is oftenly use or not. Grin

You are right on that part, I doubt the government will let the taxes pass when we use bitcoin but then again, it will also works as fiat so I think that is probably necessary.

Back on the topic, look like Bitcoin PH facebook group are not active now doing meetups. Back in June or July if Im not mistaken they conducted a meetup in Makati and that the last meetup I've heard of them. In the past they doing regular meetups. I just wondered where are they now.

I as one of the admin there, I've been trying to hook them upxhere in the forum but then no one in there wants to do something that requires work. Grin

I think the members of Bitcoin PH has already quitted bitcoin or maybe they were just too busy with their own lives now. Well I wish a group specifically dedicated for us Pilipinos' who believes in bitcoin. We could also revive the old group meetings to help the community. Smiley

Yeah I think 10 in your group PM me about what safe method Im talking about that requires work and patience and if possible they can earn at least 0.05btc a week. I told them about signature campaign. None of them tried (sigh). Couple of them told me that it's insane to wait for forum account here to rank up to earn more in campaign and that they only want are those double their coins type of investment and not by posting. Whew, what a person. Like an easy money, I want to say go rob a bank or store if you want easy money or go fuck yourself on the street taking money to all person that will pass there.

You got a point there, the first time I encounter bitcoin since 2013 and knowing bitcoin alone is not enough for me to realized  what bitcoin really is until I tried mining and then searching for an alternative way in obtaining bitcoin by faucet, back then I stop mining because it is not profitable anymore Sad then recently I came across bitcointalk, realizing the hardship in obtaining 1 bit, I think not many of us will try bitcoin. well I think many of us prefer an instant cash than hardship. Sad

Not that admins are promoting hyip there, they just don't make a preventive measures against it. Those admins are not selected because they do know more about bitcoin but because theycwere the ones whoxwere acgive at the time when the group was just starting.
The bad thing about that group is they take hyips seriously like it's the only way they can earn online, there are some people who gives warnings but it's being ignore, and then once they've lost their coins, they will only suggest to just leave it out and wait for another one to come up.
Well bitcoin is not the main source of income of people in there but still I think some of those who really understands bitcoin needs to be there and guide the other members to choose the right way of earning.

Right. Selection of admins there are those who has lots of post and threads when the group are just starting. Also, majority of post there are misleading to their newly member. There once a post there about a person that really needs money for his everyday spendings and expecting good answer from our fellow kabayan. He received lots of comments about Ponzi links and I he got hooked. Im talking about the recent scam of honestdoubler. One of the comments there are really hooking that person to join since he vouched for himself that hd is 100% legit. After a weeks of running, that person who posted a query are crying. about the his money loss. I feel sad there because I was also comment there in his first post that if he was serious joined this forum. Much better than trying HYIP but he ignore me. Because of the current trend in that group I decided to leave.

Well I don't think teachers would be teaching bitcoin in school if it is not on the mainstream of our country.

Well that is just my own perspective on how bitcoin in the future will be, lol Grin but I think that is not the point here, popularity of bitcoin will rises on its own, there are many that I know are tend to seek profit online and did come across about what is bitcoin.

I mean, I mostly see crime news in our local television. That's the fastest way a news will trend right? LOL. Cheesy
Well I doubt it will be that easy for everyone to adopt in bitcoin once it hit the media but I think if they have a glimpse of what bitcoin is, it may strike their interest. Wink

Well I think you are certainly right, a right push to a person that has no interest in bitcoin can make them have a little spark on what will bitcoin can to for them, but what can you say about teachers teaching their student about bitcoin? maybe that is a good start right? lol.
