Hey, I agree. I'm always super careful about any ads, addresses etc. But it's pretty shitty for those who ie. are not so aware and for example it's their 1st time with blockchain.info.

Scenario:

A non-tech person with a little computer skills heard about Bitcoin and something about online Bitcoin wallet blockchain. On a hassle he typed blockchain.info into google search Smiley and without enough awareness and knowledge he will create his 1st wallet on a scammy site Smiley this is a possible scenario.

I can think about other scenarios Smiley Even tech people sometimes use google search and sometimes with a strange circumstances they may lost their regular awareness and got scammed by such simple phishing sites.

Well .. also we can say that blockchain online wallet is usually used by newbies or people who for some (strange) reasons like/need to use blockchain online wallet.
If scammers are investing into such ads it must be (perhaps is) working.

I think that Google should pay more attention to prevent such attempts but well ...  Smiley

Best regards.

We can avoid this links easily by typing Blockchain.info without using google search, then we can bookmark the site for the future visits, I'm doing that after I was about to lose reasonable amount in Poloniex when I faced the same fishy case, but in my case, they send it to my e-mail, I noticed the difference after I had clicked the link, fortunately I did not lose anything.

The ones who actually use the site by typing it themselves might wont get affected by this but the ones who use google search mostly would probably get in trouble if they click on it unknowingly, because i have seen a lot of people who always google the things before opening them, even facebook.

Not the first not the last.

BlockChain.info is not the only target, we've seen LocalBitcoins, coinbase, btc-e, and main exchangers, online wallets, and p2p websites.

This is exactly why 2FA is mandatory in our website, and registration/login is via Phone number / pass / 2FA.

It seems that someone has reported them and google finally decided to remove both of them from the results page, better late than never.
I hope that not many newbies fell for that scam.

I can't understand how you guys are blaming Google for anything , just like Bitcointalk , Google don't moderate scams , they have a better things to do then cleaning their search engines .
Wrong, maybe Bitcointalk does not moderate what is being advertised in signature campaigns but a few months ago Theymos rejected Betcoin's bid on an advertising auction thread after all these scams accusations.
The reason that I am blaming google is that I believe they should reject at least  the obvious and easy to spot scams like this one.

Because It was too risky with all those scam accusations , that's all. Till now , they still have their signature campaign running which is not different from AD slots in the forums. If we take for example bitcoinblackfriday.info , It got advertising in both ad slots & sigs.
Here is the thing , Bitcointalk have only a few websites but Google have billions in their search engines results and probably millions in their ADS , It's simply impossible to check them , Even If they check them , It would be impossible to know It's a phishing attempt unless (whoever is checking) knows the original website (Blockchain.info in this case). Overall , people should start using their brains instead of blaming google or someone else.

Nice awareness for all dude, but a lot of the people are more smart in this time for correcting the url address before wanna to trying visiting the site. a lot of the scammer in this day are using a lot of the ways for scamming us.  Enable the 2FA are the best way for preventing the wrong login into the phising site.

Thanks for the tip. I would suggest for all the people in the community who are using blockchain.info to bookmark their site in your browser. This accomplishes a couple of things, easier access and safer browsing because you are sure it is the real website you are going to.

Also be sure to enable 2FA, the secondary password, disable TOR access and do not put large amounts in that wallet. Webwallets are needed for your small, daily Bitcoin expenses. It is not intended to be a place for you to store your Bitcoin savings.

Unfortunately this is old news. I mean this exact type of phishing is known for at least half a year. The only difference is the URL.

First when people reported this it was Blockchalin.info then after it was taken down by google it returned as Blockhaln.info or something.

And now we are seeing bl0ckchein.info - I expect this phising to be around for a long time, it will return in the future with changed URL.

Wtf google?! They should have removed this crap from the search engine. What's wrong with them? I hope google don't make money out of this.

Ikr, I'm pretty sure they make money from it too. For a long time I'd thought sponsored ads that appear at the top of searches were screened by Google and were bound to be legit. About a year ago I learned the hard way that that is not the case. I clicked on a money exchanger ad, confident that it would be safe, good thing I was still cautious enough to send $10 as a test. Never got anything back, their support never even replied back, I couldn't believe it. Shame on you Google!

thank you for the advice. I just knew that there is such phishing site because I rarely even never search blockchain's web on google. I just type blockchain.info on the bar and I go there. it's more secure and faster than search it on google.

This has been around for quite some time now... Just wonder if anyone fall for the scam. I don't think google will be actively screening these ad but I am sure they will take action if they receive any report.

I heard a podcast on this before. I think it was NPR'S Planet Money.

Never ever click on these ads, no matter how convenient. Use adblock if you have to.

Indeed, those phising links should be reported. Also never click links on PM or emails. Better to blocked it so that it will not appear anymor on your browser/auto completion feature.

Thanks to thread starter anyway...

Thanks for this roslinpl surely this is a great help to the community. I don't know why this hackers doesn't want to work for their own bitcoin and doing this such activity. I hope someone is able to report this to google so that they are going to remove them to their ads and promoted site because when someone mistaken do that for sure they will become a victim.
