Russian government is copying the USA, hoping that by copying, they can become as strong.
The USA is copying from others, but not otherwise. Russia existed as constitutional republic almost 1000 years before USA was founded. It's obvious that Russia doesn't need to copy anything... Everything that it need is to remember own historical experience and use it properly.

That's why we see women in office in Russia, like they never were in the past.
Actually they were. My former/current (I'm not sure about our status at the moment) gf was a deputy chief of regional prosecutor's office, for example.

But it strongly depends on the region due to huge mentality differences. Female boss is a pretty common thing in Moscow or St. Petersburg while in the southern regions like Rostov, Tatarstan or Chechnya it's almost impossible. People there simply won't recognize a female boss. Even my gf thinks that female governor or president is a nonsense.

P.S. It's interesting that correlation between ethnic composition and recognition of female/male boss isn't necessary... Russians are majority in the Crimea, Rostov and St. Petersburg but mentality is very different anyway... St. Petersburg had female governor, Crimea has female Prosecutor General. It would be impossible in Rostov region despite similar ethnic composition. I think that it's more likely to be a consequence of local traditions rather than differences in ethnic composition. Quote from interview:

Quote
- Oh, who are these people on the portraits?
- People who held the position of prosecutor general 1933.
- Um, there are no women.
- Well, now there is.

The old ways DO work. Marx, Lenin, Stalin, etc., they all work. But there seems to be something that makes the USA work better. What is it?

Russian government is copying the USA, hoping that by copying, they can become as strong. That's why we see women in office in Russia, like they never were in the past.

Is this the thing that will make Russia stronger? Or is there something else? Maybe there is an attitude among the people of America that isn't in the Russians. It certainly isn't the land factor. Russia probably has way more natural resources than the USA. What could the difference be?

Even though things of the old school work, could there be some kind of flaw in the basic thinking of Russian government that will never let them become quite as powerful as America? Has the Russian government recognized this, and are they truly making changes within? Or are they simply pushing the changes into the open while remaining in tight-fisted control behind the scenes?

I remember her interview. Cameraman made a zoom on her hands... A kind of hint that there is no ring on her finger. Grin

Russian anti-gay bill passes

Getting really tired of this "anti-gay" stuff... As far I know, there is no anti-gay bill.

1) author lost connection to reality;
2) author is telling lies intentionally.

Don't be sheeps, think for yourselves.

You're probably right. Any country that honors Ivan Kupala Day probably doesn't care one way or another about gay or anti-gay.

CEO of RT

She's a pretty woman. I think editor-in-chief would be the correct term here.

En passant, I wish RT would be less biased medium. Undecided

They are biased no more than any English language media resource. They are making news about events which are either completely ignored or represented tendentiously by other media. I enjoy their reports.

Being biased is quite the problem with centralized media. But yeah I agree with your point.

If anyone wants to see a lot of news that is being ignored by the media, go to Freedom's Phoenix - http://www.freedomsphoenix.com/ .
