What do you mean 'strange'
well the whole country seems to be made up by guns, girls, people fishing or drinking tea/vodka . And none of them seems to afraid of heights or like obama.
well, I also noted that the OP is a bit biased toward fishing. I believe that fishing is really one of his favorite hobbies. Nothing special.
I really like to catch a fish when all these conditions are met:
1) I am spending my vacation travelling in a wild style by canoeing over the lakes and rivers far from populated areas;
2) I have nothing else to do (means I already did all a must-to-do things
3) I am in a good mood for that.
Due to some changes in my life I did not caught a single small fish for several years due to not spending my free time this way anymore.
Many people here are real fans of this metier, although they consider it as a hobby mostly, not as an source of income.
The girls and vodka are just part of our life (nothing different from countries where people drink scotch, gin or whiskey)
Please note that the Russian legislation is very strict in questions of weapons possession and for some people it is a form of self-affirmation to have a photo where they are armed with some guns. Again, nothing different from the rest of World. The same I could say about fearless people caught on cam in some extreme places.
I said a few posts above that the picture you could get here unfortunately would not correspond to the real impression you get if you visit Russia.
As for Obama... what for we should like a clown from another village who came into our home, into our street and stared to tell us how we should live?
It depends on the region. People in the northern regions usually have "nordic" type of personality... They're able to keep calm in the wide spectrum of situations and prefer difficult but more reliable decisions. On the other hand, people from southern regions frequently prefer quick & risky decisions.
It's frequently seen even in the regular conversation between members of the same family. Just one example, I'm from the south (Chechen Republic) while my girlfriend is from Pskov... Sometimes we're making completely opposite decisions and unable to reach the consensus due to our mentality differences.
