Just for reference, after Maged issued a warning in the Neo & Bee thread that it was not to be derailed and that further instigation would result in a permanent-ban, MPOE-PR posted "Fuck You." I'm not one to follow all of the typical MPEx drama but in this scenario MPOE-PR was clearly not acting in a professional manner. His / her opinion was more than welcomed in the thread, but there really was no reason for the hostility. Of the 10 pages deleted approximately 3~4 posts were submitted by MPOE-PR; this indicates that Maged's actions were clearly not just directed at a single target (Unless you're one to believe that MPEx controls all of the "troll" accounts, I have no opinion on the matter). This makes the actions of MPOE-PR, and your accusation against Maged unwarranted.
Exactly. If anybody has any questions about my fairness in moderating that thread, I advise them to check the
Moderation Log. If it seemed like I deleted a reasonable post, that was probably because it was a reply to an off-topic post. Replies to off-topic posts must also be removed in order to make moderation more invisible and to reduce the broken window effect. If you didn't receive a message from me, that means that you weren't one of the worst offenders in that thread, so you shouldn't take the deletions personally.
To be honest while MPOE-PR is always quite snarky, he / she usually remains civil, so that post seems a bit out of character. The same type of hostility can be seen in this post by TAT and that too seems out of character-- is it possible that their accounts have been compromised? I won't pretend I know either well or even the forum politics, I'm just a lurker.
I suspect that the account was sold, actually. This hostility only showed up a few months ago.
MPOE-PR perma-banned. His only option to get his account back is an appeal to theymos.
I am not fucking around.
This is the best thing to happen to this forum. Although theymos will probably unban with a little bribe.
Honestly, I suspect that it will just be converted into a temp ban. However, I think that other mods would agree with me that a permanent ban would not be out of place here.
If anyone wants to complain about me giving out one single permanent ban after a person specifically quoted the post where I said to stay on topic and yet went off-topic anyway, let me put things into perspective:
If a person merely posts their alt-coin address in a coin announcement thread in the alt-coin board, standard policy is to give them a 14-day ban. I believe that is really stupid. Therefore, it would be fair to say that I'm one of the most lenient moderators on this forum. Had anybody else deleted 10 pages of posts, you can bet your ass that there would be more than just warnings given out.
I really am on the side of the users, so please remember that. The last thing that I ever want to do is hit the ban button. Sometimes I just have to, though, to protect everyone else from sucumbing to the broken window effect.
