Remember to backup the (corrupted) wallet just in case.
Then place one of your backups in said directory and rename it wallet.dat

backups will take some 100 transactions before going out of sync, so you're probably good with your latest backup.

Anyway don't panic, if you have your backups, you're 99% fine.

Thank YOU jommy and mtrycz. It might be working. It appears to be automatically syncing in classic mode. Thank YOU more than mere words can express.
No problem, man

The moment you said you had backups I knew you were golden. It's not like you had an ssd failure or something xD

I do not know exactly how to put this, and I hope it doesn't confuse anyone, but I had a helluva time winning this battle. But, with your help, somehow I prevailed. I got everything where it belonged in the folder yet it was still all chingered up. I even downloaded the 3.0.2.0 again. Nothing. I did indeed have everything right in the %appdata% folder, but I had renamed my backup data "wallet.dat" ~ I remember noticing that when I downloaded the new 3.0.2 it only had "wallet" listed. I took off the .dat from my backup and it just all popped into place. I do not exactly get it. I don't have to. I got my wallet back. It's a true testimonial to THIS GREAT COMMUNITY and how necessary it is to backup, backup, backup. And I also learned, when or if you ever change your encrypted password, that all the backups with the old password will be rendered useless. You may know all of this, I realize. But, if a rookie like me can do this, ANYONE can do it. OMG and a half. I just HAS to be a sign of good things to come, damnit!
Happy to hear you are back in business with your Pandacoin Bank and Balances!  I am guessing your file explorer view settings are the windows default and don't show file extensions for known file types (I forget about this since I change it right away so I always see my file type extensions like .dat  .txt etc). Your wallet.dat was most likely wallet.dat without the .dat showing then you renamed it wallet.dat.dat which looked to you as wallet.dat, I don't know why they default to hiding such a key bit of information.  If you were not able to get that to work there is also the final option to run your Pandacoin Bank / Wallet with a command line parameter -salvagewallet to extract your Private key from a problem wallet.dat

Well, I am the idiot they are aiming for, I guess. Somehow, I just figured out that's what it must've been. It's good to know this information. Thank you, EVERYONE for taking me under your wings. Truly, I could never have done this without you.

Because MS can be gay like that... They like assuming that everyone is an idiot and don't know what file extensions are. I too turn mine back on and anyone else that i install their windows OS for them.

It pays to also have a copy of the private keys of w/e addresses you want to keep in case funny business happens.. this way you can avoid messing about with corrupted wallets or even accidentally backing up a corrupted wallet and just drop the private key in and watch it resync as per normal.
I agree with you Joori.

just for anyone curious on how to get private key of your addresss:

you can use the console command

dumpprivkey

you can import to another wallet with

importprivkey

remember your private key is essentially your naked address, anyone who holds your private key can do ANYTHING to the funds inside your address

Just read an article about a parasitic worm being a major cause of death for pandas, made me think of Pandacoin so I thought I'd share because why not.

By popular request Chat is now avaiable on the PandaCoinTalk.com site.

Hope to see you there.

PhiPhi

nicely done!

It's possible I was the first to chat with PhiPhi, but I don't wanna brag.

Now, here's my mess which I've also detailed on pandacointalk, also:

Impatience led me to reset my blockchain, and next thing you know, I am at this point.
Though I have backed up every few days....I can not get past: "wallet data corrupt, salvage failed"  ~ I blame myself, but I wish there were someway to make it work. I followed all of goldfinch's directions. PhiPhi I know you were trying to help, but I was in panic mode, which has now turned to epic fail mode. I just don't know what else to do. I even lost my original %appdata%\Pandacoin folders because I am a habitual "empty trash" man, and it may have really bit me in the ass this time. Maybe in all my backups, I could have titled them incorrectly? I usually use the date and how much PND I have. Don't know if that matters or not. But, I may have lost it all. Talk about desperate. I am so inept at this part of computing. A total numbskull. It is what it is, though. I have done plenty of things wrong, I am sure, but I did faithfully back up every few days to my external hard drive, plus my thumb drive. I took it all so seriously, and that may have just been my doom. Takin' it all too seriously. Thank you. Sorry for whining. P.S. To make matters worse, it seems I can't even get my backups to open on my own computer. Either they are all indeed corrupt because none of them will open, or I do not have the proper program to open the suckers. Fate, I guess. I am running Windows 7 on a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge.

Oh my I can try to help, let's just get our bearings

Do you know windows file explorer  press windows key hold it then E
to open it.  Now on the top where you can type a path or unc type
%appdata% clearing whatever is there then press enter.
Does your explorer show you a directory?  If so look for the
Pandacoin subdirectory.  Do you find it?

My directory on my
pc is for instance C:\Users\John\AppData\Roaming\PandaCoin

The way to put a backup to use should you need it is to
simply copy the wallet.dat from the backup, and paste it
where it belongs, but it does need to be renamed wallet.dat

Then you could try to reset your blockchain again

You don't have to use the latest backup, so if you have to try an earlier backup that should be fine

Is this what you have been trying?   You could re-install the Pandabank then copy your backup.dat to wallet.dat where it belongs

see http://supportpnd.com/basic-tech-guides/restoring-pandabank/

Hope this helps some
