Awesome! This was very unexpected, but I am very pleased with the recognition. I was honored just to be nominated by teeGUMES in the first place and all other nominees should be proud to be recognized as well.  I have enjoyed all I have learned on the forum thus far and hope to continue to contribute to the community. Thanks to DireWolfM14 for hosting this. I hope it becomes an annual thing.

  Congratulations!!! Well deserved recognition!  Cheesy

Congrats to geophphreigh and also to the other mentioned users!

Don't be sad because you didn't win, only being mentioned in this select list is a prize itself! You are the future of the forum as of now and you should continue contributing as you did until today.
The list was a very short one, which means you all are people who brought precious information here.

Congrats to you all! You are all winners!

Congratulations geophphreigh - this was a great exercise to be introduced to some newbies who I may not otherwise have gotten a glimpse of as early in their time at BitCoinTalk.org

Hopefully this will become an annual event and we can welcome even more productive newbies into the fold.

The heart on this guy...
I was going to write up a big congratulatory block of a post but my nomination and geophphreigh's gesture after winning speak louder than anything I can say here.

The Collectibles board is quite a unique space on this forum. I could argue that MANY of the well known aliases on the forum would never be able to meetup or connect their real name/face to their alias in fear of meeting up with somebody they may have "wronged" in their time here. The community we have in the Collectibles board is quite special in that we are active at conferences, exhibits, and local meetups. It is pretty special and I am very happy to be a part of it. Thank god none of the WO newbies were nominated Wink

Congratulations on your win geophphreigh, well deserved.

But who would've thought a 47 year old government employee would be investing in bitcoin.

You are correct, I didn't know til you PM'd.  I stick to the mining section because that's what I do. I do visit the politics section once in a while to throw some old school common sense around.
But I've found the mining section very useful and helpful for information. And I'll post anything I discover in there to add to the shared wealth of knowledge.

I work full time, and trade stocks and btc in my free time.  Btc is just one of the many things I trade, so I give it as much attention as I do any single stock when I'm planning a trade. Well, maybe a bit more with the mining thing.

But who would've thought a 47 year old government employee would be investing in bitcoin. That's one more step towards mass adoption, some of us fudds are finally seeing its value.

Aww shucks.  I'm honored gang.   I've only been here since Aug iirc, so let me tell you about myself, so you get to know me a little better.

You can refer to me as Bachelor #3.  I like candle-lit dinners overlooking the bay, long romantic walks on the beach, and snuggling up with that special someone in front of a roaring fireplace on the bearskin rug.  I consider myself a hopeless romantic, and if you pick me, I'll definitely show you a great time. .

Just kidding, but that gives you an idea of how old I am if you understood where that came from.

I have a full time job, and trade stocks in my free time, so I don't get in to the forum to visit on a regular basis.  Started mining btc in Aug as a boost to my retirement in 7 years, so I try to keep up with the mining section of the forum.

But seriously, thanks for the recognition.

That's why I nominated you..
I nominated you because you were the only new account that came to my mind who was just a believable real guy, participating on this forum casually, and have value to add..
Not overly/suspiciously ambitious to gain a reputation, merit, activity, rank, or trust here.. Just doing your thing..

And this post by you I was like "Ha ha I like this guy"...
I'm a suburban cop. I have sworn to uphold the Constitution.  I will not take guns away from my citizens. And I will not surrender my personal collection of guns.

So yeah.. You're a cool newbie to me here and I hope you post more.. Keep coming back!

p.s.
All evidence would indicate that PopoJeff didn't even realize his name was brought up at all untill I PMd him...

Did you notice I nominated you for newbie of the year? https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/poll-2019-bitcoin-forums-newbie-of-the-year-5222643

lol

The guy probably doesn't even read the drama boards.. And that's badass IMO for a valuable newb..

After 4 days I’m a bit disheartened that there’s only been 78 voters. Come on folks, this thread is promoting a positive aspect of the forum  Smiley

I haven't seen any of these usernames before, so I'm abstaining for now 😬

Hey together,

I wanted to take the chance and express my sincere gratitude for being nominated "Bitcoin Forum´s Newbie of the Year" - you know, back in my gaming days, we were using "newb" more to flame people with low skills but thats just a random side note. Cheesy

I am not posting this hoping to collect some more votes - actually my chances are 0 by now anyways...  Cheesy No, seriously now - I couldnt care less if I win this or not. What matters to me is the fact that some people must have acknowledged my efforts trying to contribute as much as I can and this even makes me a little proud to be honest.

I registered only in May 19 and believe it or not - I have never been the person to use forums and certainly not the person to be active on a forum. Well, all that changed when I signed up here on bitcointalk - obviously, the counter above is showing 72 days, 6 hours and 57 minutes as total time logged in, lol. Sometimes I forget that I have only been around for about 8-9 months... Talking about activity, by now I earned enough of "those" Merits ("those" due to the fact, that in one of my very first posts I expressed how lame people in this forum are because of merits  Cheesy) for Hero rank, just crazy. Oh and NO, I havent opened a thread and I wont open one describing my so called journey from zero to hero. Wink

Just like everybody else I needed some time but I have learned so much over the last months, its incredible - and whats even more important, much more important - I really got to know some people I would love to meet in real life one day and who have just been great.

Okay, let me end this here - I only wanted to write one sentence at first, dont wanna bore you guys. Cheesy Some special thanks go out to my fellow German & Greek guys and of course to DireWolfM14 for nominating and just supporting/helping me.

Keep it up guys, happy to be here and last but not least: Thumbs up to the rest of the nominees, you deserve this.

After four days I'm actually surprised the way the voting is going, but never-the-less everyone's done well to get where they are today.
I had that feeling too. In a poll, one would need for the voters to be rather diverse in nature. That is part of the key to generating meaningful results, and avoid skewed results based on largish group affinities and such (*). Maybe I’m missing something.

(*) For example, taking a leap in context here, a recent survey referenced on my local board stated that 7,5 M people in Spain own Bitcoin (16% of the total population). That, to me, seems overly cooked, the questionable base being that the survey was done to ING banking clients, who obviously have a technological skew (as opposed to having done the survey in a grocery store).

I don't think you're missing anything, and I tend to agree.  Meta does attract a focused group, but the results suggest that many users who focus on trading and collectibles are participating.  I expected more votes for the users with technical abilities, but that doesn't seem to be happening.

I voted for Ratimov. A very active young user of our forum. I had a disagreement with him in the beginning because of his way of searching for multi accounts. I thought innocent users might get hurt. Then we came to a consensus. He spends a lot of time on the forum, manages to find scammers and make useful translations for our locale. I admire his ability to work.
