I have firecoins so I am hoping for them. Really I don't think a great alt is out yet besides litecoin.

I'm gonna say worldcoin, mostly because it seems to have accrued significant hashing momentum and goodwill, which will propel it onto one of the exchanges. Choice of name is good for broad appeal. Superficial things like that can really matter for the success of a coin.

Powercoin doesn't appear to bring anything new to the table; the same goes for many others on that list.

YAC brings something new, in that it is relatively resistant to GPU mining for the time being.

WDC offers staggeringly fast transaction speeds, but this could have a detrimental effect in the future. Who knows.

For now, these are the strongest new altcoins.

Some alt coins may survive on the sidelines, but I don't see anything out there with enough technical advantage to trump the simple fact that bitcoin is already established, has a decent market capitalization, and infrastructure.
Just like just being technically better than Facebook is not enough to unseat it, being a technically better currency than Bitcoin is not enough to challenge it. The network effects are simply too strong for that.

still wondering if alts popularity depends purely on how new they are, currently this is what the pool shows.  Maybe due to this being posted in newbie section.... some of the alts have a millions of dollars in market capitalization, those arent the favorites at this point.

What makes powercoin different? Because of real people supporting it.

PPC compute/energy costs decrease eventually. BTC and the rest can only go up.

PPC therefore offers something the others don't. Not mining it ourselves, but it's interesting.

go FTC! everyone thinks that BTC is the king because none of the other can offer anything better, thats not exactly the case.  Most people dont realize that bitcoin was just the 1st player in a big game.  It has been accepted and is more mainstream, but other alts offer far greater speeds and are willing to adapt much quicker.  Sometimes it doesnt take major innovation to win, just to improve on an older products shortcomings and market the hell out of it.  That being said my prediction is for a 50% + failure rate in the alts, but its easy to already pick out the struggling coins.  The reality is.... its still anyones game.  the alts may not un-crown btc, but you may be surprised to see a select few of the alts derive strength from BTC that cannot adapt as easily, chances are a scrypt based coin will running the majority within a few years..... just my two cents
