Happy new year 2014!

21.2% of the voters predicted the price correctly! Rate ended up well over $310, at about $740.

Thanks to everyone who voted!

Bitcoin seems to spike every 7 to 8 months as per the price history. 7 months is at November 10th....so to be safe I expect a spike higher than the ATH between November to occur between NOVEMBER 10 and DECEMBER 10.

Of course I could be completely wrong.

Or the price could continue to spike higher even after December 10th.

It's funny, because the $266 bubble started at $13.

Double digits to triple digits.

Now, we are in triple digits and many people (who think in linear numbers not % movement) simply cannot comprehend going from $130 to $2660. "That's too high! That's ridiculous!" Even though we have made such moves numerous times in the past.

But the chinamen wouldn't mind going from CNY1000 to CNY26600!

We could go to quadruple digits.

Or we could crash again and land in single digits.

Or you could die in a car accident tomorrow and never find out.

I've got my money on the price being higher than $266 sometime from now until the end of the year.

Trace Mayer has these numbers for Bitcoin/USD fx rate growth each year:

2009  4,867%
2010     387%
2011  1,320%
2012     170%

So a guesstimate of $131-150 at the end of this year would be about 900-1000% growth, which is pretty phenomenal.
Maybe 2014 will be a "lowish" growth year of about 200%  Smiley

You're never too old to think young.
I guess we would've break 300 USD easily if MtGox didn't start to have issues (which was the main reason for big drop I think).

The main reason was the over-inflated bubble, which everybody knew would burst.

MtGox's server problems were the spark that ignited the powder keg. I had my sell order in at 320 at Virtex which went up to 290 before crashing. Close, but no cigar. Might have missed by a day.

The 6 week downtrend starting in the 130s was completely different. It was sparked by the US DHS seizures at Dwolla and Liberty Reserve, MtGox introducing KYC identification two days later, and the ensuing withdrawal suspension. It culminated with panic selling all the way down to 66 a few days after withdrawals resumed (sort of). The big benefit to Bitcoin was the reduction in market share of the one exchange whose problems had the potential to seriously affect the market. That and the opportunity to buy coins while they were ridiculously cheap.

I can't tell if the poll is full of trolls or if we will actually break 300 in 4 months... Huh

Well, only 1/5 of votes.
I think it wouldn't be -that- amazing if we actually broke 300. I guess we would've break 300 USD easily if MtGox didn't start to have issues (which was the main reason for big drop I think).

The last week of the year is precisely when the price will beat the last high in April 2013.

I think might stabilise at it's current levels because more and more people are getting into it now, either that or it will start getting higher and higher depending on what our governments do with their money but it will definitely be a lot more stable.
