We have 5 TVs in this home, though all can receive 100's of channels of programming, four are used mainly for gaming, none of which I play.

I don't have a TV.
I had a TV card some while ago and use it to watch Discovery and shit.
But the amount of commercials drove me nuts. I hate those stupid commercials.
You just sit there watching the new powders for babies asses while Teal'c was just about to kick some serious Goa'uld butt.
You go away for a while and you come back no Teal'c in sight, still happy babies asses. So you change the channel and and when you remember to change it back Stargate is over and asses are back on.

I've watched very little TV since dad passed in July, 2010. Since then, it's been 99% internet, with no less than 50% of that time dedicated to something Bitcoin related since I discovered the bitch in mid-2011.

BTW, you didn't win the T-Shirt bounty, Satoshi, but you came in a close eighth (never realized that that's a funny spelt[arch.] word).

I don't watch TV. I download series and movies I'm interested in from private torrent trackers and watch on PC. Read news stories on internet. I really don't need that advertising and brainwashing machine.

Depends.  I don't watch public TV, and hell no to public television news, but I do watch Hulu or Netflix after dinner time as a bit of enjoyment before bed.  Still cheaper than cable.

I don't watch TV, I watch the Keiser report and things of that ilk online, TV is great if you have nothing to do with your life and an IQ around room temperature.

I use a DVR so I don't have to waste time watching commercials. There are talented entertainers in the television industry and I enjoy their craft and trade. Storytelling is one of mankind's greatest civilization building tools. Books are fine, but they often lack the complexities of a Hollywood production. A single author's narrative can drive a point and create compelling drama, but the combined skills of talented directors, actors, artists in foley, music, editing, and photography add (if well produced) so much more. They take the meat of a story and add the ingredients to make it a gourmet meal of storytelling.

If I see ~6hours of TV per week, this counts as a "Yes"?
I watch only "The Simpsons" or "Futurama" when I'm bored of my laptop.

I watch Walking Dead and Spartacus, plus sometimes a show or two on Hulu. And that is the height of my TV bubble in the past 6 years or so.
I did notice though, that what used to be 3-4 commercials is now ~10. And once in awhile a show will only come back for a minute or two before running another commercial block...

I think one of the more annoying things you realise when you decide to switch the T.V on again is how there isn't any sort of countdown to let you know when the stupid ads are going to end.

Press the OFF button and you know exactly when it will end.  Wink

No you're not alone. TV stinks. I haven't had a cable subscription for the last 5 years at least.

It saves money but more importantly it activates your brain. Finally cable companies have given up calling me with their offers. A house without an idiot box subscription seems to short-circuit their brains.

It is sometimes awkward in public to talk to people when they say to you "did you see X Y and Z on TV?" and you have no idea what they are talking about.

I do my own TV programming nowadays.  In Australia some TV series are so far behind its not funny.  Its not nearly as bad as it used to be tho.  I remember watching STAR TREK TNG/VOY/DS9/ on Channel 9 years ago and it was always 2-3 YEARS behind.

I work strange hours too. I watch stuff when I want!

I watch 0 TV advertising at all, and it always bugged me

I was at the in-laws about a month ago and the tv was on.  AUSTRALIA TV HAS JUST GONE TO POO POO.  The same stupid 3 ads OVAR & OVAR & OVAR! Australian programming has GONE TO SHIT.  No SciFi, No Comedys.  Just DRAMA, COOKING SHOWS, AND HOME RENOVATION SHOWS.
EDIT: I forgot about singing/dancing shows.
YUCK!

Except for ABC. ABC has some awesome stuff on it. Tho their catchup program iview is in desperate need of a bandwidth upgrade.  Saying its video is at 320 resolution would be giving it credit.

Haven't watched TV since 2007. Used to waste 2-3 hours a day before. I don't download shows, only movies that are not shown in cinemas.

I download shows I think are actually worth watching but that's it, I've ranted about this before but I think television rots your brain entirely, at least with the internet you can choose what you want to watch and not have everything else shoved down your throat. What still drives me nuts particularly is when the news pretends to know anything about computers and consistently report things that are just blatantly made up because they don't know how to do their research or anything like that.

Stupid television! >_< It's kind of like school where everyone has their own pre-programmed path ( particularly teachers ) and they can't accept anything outside of the curriculum or exams, people on television also live in their own worlds and force it on everyone else. Nah, you're not alone Tongue
