I'd say cgminer etc are mining software.....

I was asking about the sw packages pool sites use to run the pools.

Can someone point us in the right direction?  Smiley

There is a very large variety of mining pool software out there (GUIMiner, CGMiner, ect.) Which one is the best depends on what you are interested in doing?

What mining pool software there are available? I've seen pushpool as a backend and mmcFE as a frontend, and couple of other pools that I couldn't get the name out with a quick look.
