Using your old phones, new phones, laptops, or any other brand new CPU is wasting your time.

Prompting people waste their time, power and money like this is pure negligence.
Do you wanna bet? So, do you think no one ever will mine a block with CPU or smaller devices like Nerdminer in next 10 years? I will be here at 08.01.2034.
The ONLY was a BTC block can be mined by CPU/GPU or toys like the nerdminer is if difficulty plummets back to where it was around 2013. That ain't gonna happen unless the value of BTC collapses.

To have even a remote chance of finding a block means the miner must process at least 1 share before someone else finds a block. In other words it has to be faster than 1 share every 10 min (on average). At current diff that just   is  not  going  to  happen. Period.

I understand the science behind what you mean. Currently on Public Pool, Nerdminer + cpuminer have 3.5 GH/s. It is "Chance per day: 1 in 909,668,533" according to SoloChance. Ten years is 3650 days. So my chance is 1/250k.

Is this calculation correct?

It won't be happen, most likely. But I would bet on it with fair ratios just to have fun.

Actually there's a few pools that are 0.5% solo - so not sure what you are saying there ...

Sure, you are not sure, please stay away and read again.

I’m a huge fan of the nerdminer and low-diff (low fee!) solo pools like public-pool. There is no easier, cheaper way to get into open source Bitcoin mining hardware. Who knows what a fun weekend project might lead to??

There are literally thousands of people mining bitcoin on ESP32 devices knowing the chances of mining a block are just about 0. It's just about having fun and education.

The fun is on the seller side, the education for the buyer is " I got ripped off".
There is nothing to learn by buying an ESP32  Miner, not even building and programming it.
If they wan't fun and education they buy an odroid and learn to program that thing by themself.
Or following Skot with his Bitaxe Miner (Asic).

What about the piggy bank users that collect money to mine in groups with rentals, not to mention all the dice games or give me 1 you'll get two, legendary vouch !
I see why contributors wont stay/chat and propose ideas here, because you guys centralized this notorious forum.

You can mine on any of the solo pools with an asic.

You suggesting people using non-asic miners just makes you sound like a scam to sucker people in to something that is pointless and a loss.

Sure it is, but you learn and get some experience, any device is a bitcoin block ticket as any chip from asics.
Not everybody have the means to create a node, private pool, good bandwidth and start mining, we are just helping, maybe the old consecrated pools don't want this.
I am not promoting anything, just saying.

You might get a pleasant surprise with any device, time is not lost, you need luck, true, just like big farms do, so put your old phones and laptops to work, help the network, help yourself.

Just like the lottery, you want to win, but you don't buy a ticket.
