OK guys.... I have tried desktop mining many times, and here is my advice for all the noobs: Never ever try this. It is a complete wastage of time and effort. I can give you a list of thousand things to do if you have spare time. But never try desktop mining. If you are still that determined to spend your time in desktop mining, then please watch some porn instead and relax. Even that is better than wasting your time in desktop mining.

I would suggest cloudmining rather than desktop if you have enough funds...

Please don't suggest cloud mining. Most cloud mining sites are scams and the few that are not are not profitable investments.

Is it still possible to mine for bitcoins using a normal desktop computer nowadays?

It is possible? Yes. But the question is it worth it? No.Its just a waste
of time and your money. You offer, GPU minning.
There are many reasons for this; When you get away from being lucrative, at least you have a good gaming computer.

However the GPU process will not enough to do mining with the profit and continuous use of the mining process will consumes a high electricity and cost would be high. Therefore, don't do the desktop mining and cloud mining. If you look into go for mining investment you can try on the antminer or solar mining which will provide the decent income.

Why year? I get 1$ every 10 day from one desktop with equihash Smiley

That's possible, but AFAIK, the discussion is about mining bitcoin using a desktop PC (which is close to impossible). Equihash means you're mining altcoins, which is fine to, but such discussions belong in the altcoin mining subforum.
Yeah, i'm mine zCash, but, get bitcoins. I'm use NiceHash for this.

I don't know if this mining are compatible with desktop even you had the most powerful specs of computer maybe it can be go with mining much better if you do buy a mining hardware like antminer s9 the lastest one with the mother board mining then you can start with this, Once you tried it to mine with your pc maybe you will regret in the end.

even with single antminer s9 if you are going to start the mining of bitcoins.then it will surely be in loss , so it is much better to do trading in bitcoins which will give you more profit.

Yeah that's right. In my view mining is quite possible with desktop but the miner won't be benefitted much. Altcoin mining through desktop seems more profitable, so it's good to mine with the specific equipment  that are available for mining purpose.

It is not impossible to use your pc to mine, you can easily join a pool with your pc, slushpool for example, however your #mhash is going to be so small, that your earnings will be almost nothing.

I guess it is good for education purposes, but indeed, it is not worth it nor will you ever be close to breakeven.

Don't use your desktop . It will be destroyed in some weeks . Also if you mine with desktop you will get just some bucks in some months .
You will earn maximum 10 euros monthly , if you really want mining just buy a rig

Why should it be destroyed if you set a max hash the pool/program is allowed to use from you? Care to eleborate?

What you mean by negative profit? If I am getting electricity for free, then there will be no loss, right? Anyway, I don't care if I get any profit or not. Mining will be fun, and I want to experience it.

I mean that mining with a good, new i7 + decent GPU PC 24/7 will net you less than a dollar a year at current diff, block reward and BTC price.
Even if you get free electricity, i doubt that you'd find a free PC + network equipment + ISP + power for $0 a year. As soon as you pay $10 for a new power cable or a new PC keyboard, you'll never be able to recuperate this cost by mining, hence you'll make a negative profit.
As soon as you decide to mine with an old "free" PC, do realise that you won't even come close to $1/year... It'll probably only be a small fraction of this.

Next to this, the concept of "free" power is pretty confusing. Either you're stealing power, or somebody is paying for it... Either you yourself (maybe it's calculated into your monthly rent), maybe your parents, maybe your employer,... But somebody is footing the bill, and one way or another, most of the time, the bill is passed on to you (maybe your parents make you do chores, maybe your employer sees your power consumption as part of your salary, maybe your rent gets higher after a couple of years because the landlord pays so much for his power bill,...).

Mining revenue of $1 per year? If this is true, then there is no point in doing desktop mining. I would rather purchase BTCs from some exchange site for $1, rather than wasting time and effort in mining.
Yes you can still mine bitcoins with you PC using some of the Windows based Mining software. But the returns would be negligible as Bitcoins prices have gone much higher.

Not really.

You always have a chance to do that but the chance is so slim that there is really no point.

You will waste your electricity, your time, and your desktop will probably die, and you will die too because of the overheating of the desktop and the noise that it produces... Just crazy if you ever owned a rig and don't have the proper equipment.

It's possible but not worth. Need high spec desktop to mining but still can't compete the mining device like Asic, Ant ext. Also your chance to find a new block almost 0.

It is possible to mine bitcoin using desktop but it is impossible to have a good profit in mining in your desktop as they all said there are so many people who is mining bitcoin this days thats make the mining harder and harder so all most impossible to mine bitcoin in your desktop but you can still do it for fun.
The thing is, that it doesnt look like that.
You are not able to make any profit from mining bitcoins with PC, the electricity costs are just too high, and the difficulty has risen so much, that it kills the whole idea pretty much.

There is no point in even considering getting bitcoins through mining with desktop, but you can try it with some other cryptocurrencies, there are some altcoins which are actually possible to be mined with desktop successfully, but I would say that most of them are rather shit-coin, because the mining business is very big, if we consider how much funds you need to just start a mining project.
