Topic: Post was deleted from local thread, what is the possible reason? (Read 197 times)

Thanks guys. I did not notice one thing if a post gets deleted, whoever quotes that post to reply to it, their post might get deleted as well. It seems I have to ignore these off-topics too so my post does not get deleted. Thanks, Xal0lex for the post and Stalker22 for bringing it here. I guess it will be appropriate to lock this thread as I get the possible answer. Even if I don't know the actual reason, I would like to forget it and move on. I am locking this thread now!

I rushed to create the topic and you rushed to quote it. I consulted with the forum administrators and we decided not to allow offtopic in these topics in full. Because if there will be a lot of offtopic, these topics can turn into trash. So the holiday for spammers with offtopic is canceled. I apologize for my haste. I'm deleting my topic.

But. That doesn't mean you can't discuss anything not related to cryptocurrencies. Normal posts, not one-line spam, even if off-topic, may be allowed.

Well, that is too bad. Personally, I think that a little "off-topic" would not be harmful for local threads since they dont have dedicated boards, but I can see how it could encourage spam, so I understand the decision.  Perhaps the mods could take a more laid-back approach in the local threads and use their own judgment to find some middle ground?

I have edited my post to reduce confusion.

I just noticed Xal0lex (mod) has put up a new topic in the "Other languages/locations" board, and it is related to this and explains everything. People need to stop making pointless reports.

Address to all users of the section

Since there is one topic for each language group in this section, there is no concept of "off-topic" for such topics. Therefore, please, everyone who sends reports on one or another post, do not send reports on off-topics in your topics. Discussion in your topics can be on any topic, not just cryptocurrencies.

Thanks.

what Xal0lex said actually makes sense, I don't see the reason why an "off-topic" post should be reported and deleted(unless the post basically breaks the forum rules) on a thread where you are supposed to discuss anything that is happening in your country, may it be crypto related or not.

@Xal0lex, thanks for the quick action you made by creating that thread.

that's too bad, I guess until the local thread turns into a local board they would have to refrain from talking non crypto-related topics.

Thanks for the answer guys. But, I am afraid I am still not satisfied because we are in one local thread. Please read it again, it's not a local board where we could have several sub boards to discuss different things. We have only one thread where we discuss everything. So, why this post should be considered off-topic and other political, sports, and many more not considered off-topic?

If you say the quality is not up to the mark, I am okay with it. Maybe I should improve my writing. But, why a off-topic post would get deleted from a local thread where we do not have different section to discuss particular things?

If you have one local thread, then you can discuss anything there and there is no concept of "Off-Topic" in that local thread. But the posts can still be deleted because of two reasons.

1) Maybe the post was of low value and the moderator deleted it. Or someone may have reported the post and the moderator evaluated it, agreed to it that was a spam post and deleted it.

2) As I see that বাংলাদেশ (Bengali) is a Self-moderated thread, which means that anytime the OP of that thread can delete any post in that thread.

If you read the discussions in the Bangladesh section, then the discussions there really touch on very different topics. For example, Bitcoin_people recently created two similar topics about an accident with his child. In the reputation section, where the topic was created, the topic was immediately moved to the off-topic section, but in the Bengal section, it is very actively discussed. Therefore, Shishir99's doubts are quite fair, although I would not worry so much about one post.
Just forget about it.

I am not sure that’s what happen, I have come across posts that the quoted ones were deleted but the reply remains. The only thing is when the thread it self is deleted then you get affected and you wouldn’t receive a PM. But in his case I think it was personally deleted separately after that of synchronym was deleted, not because synchronym own was deleted only. And that was probably done by the OP of the topic himself
Despairo is actually correct. synchronym's post which was considered off-topic was deleted by the mods and therefore, the individual replies to a deleted off-topic post or reply usually get deleted too, it doesn't matter if the quality of the post was good or not. It's just off-topic. How do I know this? Because, it has happened to me before.

And it's the Mod that deleted the post, not the starter of the thread, who has been offline for almost 2 weeks.

I thought you're the one who start it, but after @Zaguru12 post this link, it turns you're just replying other user post. @OP the reason why your post got deleted by moderator is @synchronym post was deleted. There was a moderator said if the post you replied got deleted, your post would be deleted too regardless you're replying on topic, good quality etc.

Block halving is coming.
I translated the deleted posts but this type of post most likely be deleted by mods because it's off-topic.

Since your local section only has one thread make sure to post only related to Crypto. I believe someone reported your post about the self-moderated topic, I don't think OP deleted your post what I believe is your post was reported to mods which is why the PM you receive tells you that it was deleted by the forum moderator, not the OP.
So you don't need to create a new thread just to discuss off-topic you can directly go to our off-topic section.

Because this post is related to your local board, you should have posted this on your local board asking why your post was deleted. We won't know if it's irrelevant, off-topic, spam, or low quality. We don't speak your language. Instead of creating threads, you should have tried to ask your seniors or the moderator who manages that board. He or she may know the actual reason. OP, having deleted one or two posts isn't that serious. Sometimes it happens.

I do not know what could be a possible reason. I guess because of off-topic?
Highly likely it's the main reason based on what you mentioned, also there are only 2 mods that is possible who deleted it either @Cyrus or @Xal0lex.

Should I create a new thread to discuss these things?
Yes, in the English boards. Your English is OK IMO.
I second to this, but probably with this kind of topic "the problem of smartphone usage in families and how kids are affected by it" it should be in offtopic board.

Hi,

Yesterday I wrote a reply to someone regarding the problem of smartphone usage in families and how kids are affected by it.
Problem of smartphone uses and effects in family. How it's related to Bitcoin and Bitcointalk forum? Will these kids become bitcoin billionaires someday by watching those kids channels 😉.

Maybe some of them 😎

Anyway, my best guess is that it was considered off-topic by the topic starter or the mod.

You just answered yourself, the post was off topic and the OP deleted the post. If you have secondary ideas you can create your own thread but make sure it is not an irrelevant or low quality thread because it will still be deleted if members report it. So next time try to stay on the topic or create your own if the OP of the first thread doesn’t go with your idea.

I would advise that you add the link to the post which you replied to, that way we can analyze if it was indeed an off-topic post.

Or did you make the post in your local thread so that others could discuss about it? If yes, then I’ll say it was reported for “low quality” because I sincerely do not see how that would result in a significant discussion.

Hi,

Yesterday I wrote a reply to someone regarding the problem of smartphone usage in families and how kids are affected by it. I was replying to someone. Today I saw that my post was deleted by a moderator. I am not sure why it was deleted. I do not know what could be a possible reason. I guess because of off-topic?

The post was:

A reply of yours, quoted below, was deleted by a Bitcoin Forum moderator. Posts are most frequently deleted because they are off-topic, though they can also be deleted for other reasons. In the future, please avoid posting things that need to be deleted.

Our local thread in Bangladesh is a single thread and there are no sub-boards to discuss off-topic things. Bangladeshi members discuss everything in a single thread. We discuss Bitcoin, sports, politics, and tech things in a single thread. So, I am not sure if my post was considered off-topic or not. Moreover, the topic is self-moderated and it says "This is a self-moderated topic. If you do not want to be moderated by the person who started this topic, create a new topic". Should I create a new thread to discuss these things?
