I believe IQ's are just for gauging your ability to solve problems.

I'm pretty sure the main purpose about IQ tests is to be able to tell other people what your score was. They might also serve the secondary purpose of getting you into Mensa, which has the related goal of letting you tell people you're in Mensa.

Obviously!

Ugh, I'm feeling out of sorts.  I only benched 350 today (it's a cardio day, so I go light on the weights and mostly run 30 miles) and yet I feel a little sore anyway.

(I bet this one gets a lot of takers here.)

Only people of average intelligence think IQ scores are meaningless.  Anyone with an IQ below 60 or above 140 knows exactly what that number implies.
I disagree, I scored high on my IQ tests, 2 years higher then my peers in fact (It was a professional, face to face IQ test not those fun & games Online IQ tests), I believe IQ's are just for gauging your ability to solve problems.

After all if I'm in the jungle I'll most likely end up being a friend of Tarzans than with a scientist standing next time him(if i had to choose of course) since the Tarzan guy has Jungle Intelligence, knows the land, most likely has past relatives that brought him up and raised to him to teach him how to survive and what’s poisonous and what is safe to eat  and stuff like that.... Their is no such thing as intelligence, its just that the kind of intelligence we are talking about is productive intelligence.... Do I have to ability to make A into B? If I can pass all tests on the IQ test that just means I can make people ALOT of money and have to ability to be highly productive in my life with out alot of time wasted on trial and errors Smiley My two cents on IQ score credibility

I've only really met one person that I consider genius, his IQ was North of 150 and you could tell when you talked with him. His mind was always running @110%.
What did he do for a living? Worked at a place called JPL, yea he was a rocket scientist lol.
His daughter was dumb as bricks, only much later in life did we learn she wasn't his biological daughter  Tongue

GPA was 4.0 in high school. I had one A- the entire time. I don't remember my SAT score at all, it must not have been meaningful.

In college I started on the Dean's List. I think my final GPA was like 2.75 or something, though. I started working and began to care more about my job and actual work than getting good grades. I don't regret the decision to focus more on work than school in hindsight, either. College is honestly overrated, I'd take a hard-working kid out of high school over a pompous know-it-all who's never made applicable use of his skills anyday.

If you were in college I'd be more interested in if you were that geek that wrote his own custom code to administer his private WoW emulated server or automate bots in Counter-Strike than that you were the privileged son of a wealthy parent that bought you your 4.0. Granted, things aren't always so clear cut, a 4.0 doesn't always mean someone is pompous or unable to comprehend why money shouldn't just be handed to them, but the more experience I have with ultra-nerds with no work experience that seem to think it cares, the more I'm finding that to be true. Sorry if this sounds like a slam, I'm just cautioning everyone here from thinking intelligence actually matters once you graduate (assuming many of you are still in school).

For what's its worth, when I did a few tests I was told I had a 126 IQ, but I actually think I'm a fair bit dumber than that.

Oh shit, reeses brings up a good point. What was everyone's SAT score? Cause that's clearly the most important bit. I'll start: mine was 2460.

Do you recall what percentile that was? I recall my national %tile but not my score..  Yours sounds high though, likely 95% or higher, right?

Oh yeah, way above 99th.

I don't do homework, I study for exams the class before them, and I get mostly Cs. There's just so much more to learn outside of school, so you have to choose.

Study?  I liked walking into a final and having a prof ask me if I was in the wrong room because he had never seen me in class. Smiley  Derive a semester of work from first principles, THAT is a test.

I studied for my college physics and chem classes, and math. If other classes count too, then no, I never studied. Keep in mind I'm still graded on homework in all my high school classes Tongue

Only people of average intelligence think IQ scores are meaningless.  Anyone with an IQ below 60 or above 140 knows exactly what that number implies.

and anyone not lacking a Mensa card knows that discussing it on a bitcoin forum is pretty much a waste of time.

I think of MENSA members as people who just barely finished a 5k and wear the cheap tshirt everywhere to show that they did it.

If I remember correctly, you could get into MENSA with a pre-inflation SAT score of 1300 or so.1

1.Oh yeah, I know exactly what I did there.  Kiss

+A-B

The average is more like 80-120 and some people may just be humble and not want to see a pissing contest about IQ. Because, unless it is 150+, then it is meaningless in the context of the OP.

and no, I'm not one of the ones being humble as mine is some where in your listed average range. Atleast 60+ last I checked. ;p
