Well the first article in this project seems to have gone down well, and I'm grateful to Flying Hellfish for pre-checking it.

Now we need a few more articles like this. We also need some good informed discussion in the submitted thread.

Good result so far, as I`ve seen. I`m really curious about how the situation is affecting his daily life, for the information he provided is historical. The Nicaragua situation seems like a great example of the influence of outsiders policies getting destabilization into a country, but, to me, the most interesting part, is how that affects the lives of the people in their day-to-day activities.
Let`s wait and see how the post evolves. So far, congrats, JC, I think this is the first example of how the ftt project can actually help to improve the forum quality and the speech of the people.

I'm just waiting for him to proof read the article, and then he can post it.

I'd love to get a similar article about Venezuela, but that may be even more sensitive. Maybe I'll do one about Brexit. I'll have to explain how man created unicorns to enslave horses first though.

FH, I don't think he was referring to dangerous for the moderators. I think he was trying to get to the point that if you push an anti-government narrative (in some countries ) you're going to punished, and these governments will try to punish the website(s) in question. -- Just wanted to clarify this.

Though, I don't think we cause enough dissidence/issues to have authoritarian governments trying to shut us down. So we should be fine.

Honestly I do not know of a list of topics that we can't discuss.  I don't see anything in the article that would violate forum rules.

Now if you were discussing how to get to a website that was selling assassinations of law enforcement officers that would be against the forum rules.  But if you were just discussing the site and not how to get there it would be fine AFAIK...

I am not worried about the forum and what any gov't is going to do to it.  That is theymos' responsibility!  Until he red lights certain topics (which I don't see happening) you can say damn near anything.  I firmly believe theymos understands the difference between a distributor and a publisher and those are VERY different categories in terms of legal definitions!

The forum is obviously not responsible for what a user should and shouldn't post from their own region, if that user may get in trouble some how for discussing a topic it is their responsibility to deal with those issues.

TLDR until theymos tells me my interpretation of the forum rules are wrong (which is a possibility) I will continue to allow all topics that don't violate the forum rules and I do not see a single thing that would persuade me your article (drgomez' article more accurately!) is not 100% allowed by the rules!

The forum is as free as possible for good or bad!

He should be acknowledged for his work by referencing. However, you can discuss with him and see how best both of you would be satified by your ultimate decision.

How is going the @drgomez post?

It's progressing. Smiley It's taken a bit longer because I underestimated the difficulty. Also I'm sanitising the text, and having to do a bit of research to clarify a few points. I created a page on one of my spare domains, and I built a two column page to simplify the conversion, and also to run it by Flying Hellfish before it is posted. I won't post the link here, as it contains the original text, but the link is in the chatroom and on los caobos. Having to use two computers and my own domain has restricted me to McDonalds as well, and that doesn't help.

@squatz1 - you guessed the problem. The text mentions many people allegedly killed by the police, and I think one needs to be circumspect in discussing topics like this on the modern Internet.

aMerits - sMerits for posts that are over a month old
bMerits - blog sMerits for blog entries ( to be announced on Monday)
cMerits - sMerits for collectionsof posts that are beneficial for the forum
dMerits - sMerits delegated to responsible members who find quality posts, but are not able to reward them.
eMerits - this is a secret ( actually it's really because I haven't thought of anything yet).
fMerits - sMerits for post that have been translated from a foreign language.

Jajajaja I do like the shape this is taking since you can concentrate the merit awards in a post after looking at the post history and concluding that the subject already deserves all these merits for all the good posts he/she made.

Ok, now I`m curious about bMerits and eMerits!!

My opinion was based on some questions I`ve seen regarding the name of the merits (I think some people think that it`s "official"). But, you know? That sounds funny.

How is going the @drgomez post?

I agree that the Political board is the best place for the post, and that it should be made by the creator. The only reason I didn't go for this option in the first place was the state of the board. Flying Hellfish has put a lot of work into cleaning it up, and I think it has the makings of a great board with his hand on the tiller.

The alphabet merit family is really a bit of a marketing excercise. I think everybody knows that the merits that actually get rewarded are the basic sMerits, but the reasons for merit awards seem to have expanded away from the original undersatnding. The awarding of merits to a quality new post must still be the primary application, but as the system has settled down, it is apparent that this can be expanded to encourage newer members. Awards for posting habits rather than individual posts, and the delegation of merit awards, are just two examples.
Merits for good posts that were obscured because of heavy spam infestation should also be encouraged. So far my alphabet list is progressiong slowly -

aMerits - sMerits for posts that are over a month old
bMerits - blog sMerits for blog entries ( to be announced on Monday)
cMerits - sMerits for collectionsof posts that are beneficial for the forum
dMerits - sMerits delegated to responsible members who find quality posts, but are not able to reward them.
eMerits - this is a secret ( actually it's really because I haven't thought of anything yet).
fMerits - sMerits for post that have been translated from a foreign language.

Hopefully most members will agree that these awards, if made to good posts, will encourage new members, and will help to rebuild the forum into a valuable crypto resource. By creating the alphabet marketing idea, I wanted to encourage merit awarders to consider a few more options, and to help serious new crypto members to improve their ranking.

Well that seems to settle it then. I'll clean up the guys article, and get him to post it on the political board. It might take a couple of days to get there though.

It certainly seems to be the most straight forward method, I'm working through the alphabet on merit projects, and I've got stuck on "E", but maybe I can call this one fMerits ( for foreign), itMerits is a bit cumbersome, and doesn't fit the pattern anyway.

Does anyone know any extra terrestrials for an eMerit project?

I think the easiest we maintain the merit system, the best. Let`s not complicate it too much, for there are already too many questions related, as more we introduce more and more "kind of merit", more post related we are going to have here in Meta (and the number of them is already quite annoying).
I`ve checked the post you mentioned, and I think this is enough just to give some directions to @drgomez89:
- 1. Let`s help him to "clean" -meaning improve the English - his post in the FittoTalk project.
- 2. He will be able, once "cleaned", to post a really good thread on the P&S board, since he has the rank to do that in that board, and we can merit him.
- 3. I think he should write a disclaimer in his post too, in which the Fit to Talk project should be mentioned, as well as a short explanation of how was the process.

Maybe those can be the FtMerits, "FittoTalk merits", but the less we mentioned a different kind of merits, the best, I think.
Whatever you choose, I feel that as a good example of the community in Ftt doing a great job.

What about these ideas,

Eagle merits : For Scam busters, Merit abuse finders who has eyes of an eagle
Edu Merits : For posts which has an educational value
Effort Merits : For posts where the poster has done a lot of research, background check and digginng
Einstein Merits : For new ideas, innovative brain storms, great suggestions
Enjoyable Merits : For quick witty responses

IMHO none of these are "Elegant" Enough to be considered as an "Einstein" idea!  Angry

"Exceptional merit?" I have trouble finding post to award with single merits. I will have to think of something for "E" though. Then I can move on to the g-spot.

This merit source thing is a real nightmare. Sometimes I think I should give up and play with domains and bashing globalists. Smiley
Please, don`t give up. You`re doing a great job, this forum needs you  Smiley
Back to the subject of discussion, personally I think, if you are planning to tidy up smb`s post and stuff like that it`s practically editor`s work. You`re taking part of creating this post too. So, an option 3 seems to be natural in this situation. And a guy`s comment will be pertinent also. But that`s just my opinion.

I haven't seen any country specific threads there though. Should we encorage posters to start submitting them?

P&S, doesn't specify that it is only in relation to any one country. I think it would be encouraged as you're also helping teach the member, how to find the appropriate boards to post on.

I very much encouraged you to post it in P&S.  We have a few USA specific threads so we should be able to have other Country specific topics, the US isn't the only game in town, right!

I did a big clean up in there last night, and moved a ton of off topic threads, I was annoyed that I can't keep up with the shit piles in there and decided to move the off topic stuff to the shitcan or Off Topic.

I absolutely encourage any national Political discussion, bring it on gentlemen, I will do my best to keep it shitpost free!

P.S I replied to your PM Jet Cash I thought I would post here as well in case others were interested in the answer!

Debate away ladies and gentlemen!!

I would also like to see more discussions about the internal strife in some countries, but I'm not sure if that is a dangerous path for the forum to take.

Since he cant post in your Ivory Tower project you can do it in his name.
At the start and end of your post just write something like:

This merit source thing is a real nightmare. Sometimes I think I should give up and play with domains and bashing globalists. Smiley

I had to go back 34 pages on Serious Discussion to find some threads that I could review for my aMerits initiative. These are 'archive merits' awarded to posts that are over a month old. I managed to find one that I thought was OK, rather than brilliant.
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.26155488

I asked for submissions on the beginners board, and that seems to be a big flop. It seems that newbies and Juniors there don't believe that they made any decent posts in the past. Right now, I think I agree with them. Smiley

A really good political discussion and tiding up the words a bit to make the whole content not restricted to a local board:

1. Politics/society would be apt, but that's a messy board for spammers to go through the first line, last line and imaginable line without having any understanding of the main content and come up with whatever response. Clipping the quote to ivory does make sense, but:

2. The user can post it on serious discussion and get rewarded with merits for a constructive, but not contributing post. How many users in local boards use serious discussion? Assuming the purpose of such a thread is to carry on the discussion forward with fellow local users, but not getting merited for simply starting a thread then as far as local board translations is concerned it's good for rewarding the one's who start it. But:

3. Having the same thread in local with a moderator not only meriting the OP, but going through such threads to find other meritable responses would be apt than having a local translated mertiable thread on a general board or serious discussion and restricting the merit to only one person or maybe two, IMO.
