now hdd price also go to 10x, haha its will be fun

Marketing & real usage of the coin are a lot more important than its PoW algo sadly. Burst already have hundreds of miners with thousands of terabytes (Network is as big as 0.5 petabytes right now), storj has a big community too. (Storj is another coin where you lend your HDD space) yet, HDD prices ain't shooting up. It is because no matter what they've done, these coins couldn't create the hype that bitcoin/eth created. That's marketing.

Burst came very close in December though. ROI was around 5 months at that time. That's also when I bought my HDD's.  Wink (and many other did too)

See the jump?

If you have the expertise to write a new POC algo, presumably there will need to be a coin to go with it. I think a new coin competing in this space would be a task more herculean in the business and marketing domain than  algo development in the CS domain. I wish you the best, but hope you've thought through the big picture so that your time is spent usefully and productively.

I think that's a great idea. When we see the price of mining, both for equipment and for electricity, all other forms of consensus have a chance for the future.

I mined a few bitcoins but it just cost too much energy, I don't think it's an efficient way of mining. I'm writing a new algorithm by mining with hard drive. I tried Burst but it has logical flaws, not a good method. Stay Tuned.

What logical flaws burst does have may I ask?

I mine it and to me it is pretty awesome. I still would like to see a competing algo. More people mine with HDD's, better it is.

Faking the actually capacity.

It is about to get patched with a hard fork as far as i know.

If this algo becomes popular, millions of HDDs will consume a lot of energy too.

Yep! Enough to feed GPUs and ASIC manufacturers! It's time to feed harddrive makers  Wink

If the coin takes off all that would happen is  hdd waste and your green idea is lost.

or the coin does not take off and it save no resources

but I hope you succeed as hdds are commonplace so it would be decentralized

Your algorithm/miner is about using hard drive, so if it's something relates to Proof-of-Capacity (PoC) it should be very nice. I always like the idea of PoC which is very simple and mostly dont consume any energy, one of that is Burst coin as you mentioned. I really like Burst coin because its community is very nice, and I'm also mining Burst with ~80Tb capacity, but it likes I'm mining for fun now, the difficulty level already 3x since last December.

Sounds like a good idea to me. It would probably attract a lot of people with low-end hardware that can't mine efficiently with GPU, etc.

You can develop a "green" algo, but miners are not going to move to a "green" algo massively, miners are going to move just to the most profitable algo.

But anyway, good luck.
