at it's price not worth it. used server PSU 2.45Kw is 50USD (or less) + cables is much better deal

Yes. Can supply 14 x AMD RX 480 .
No, it can't. Only 9.

For the server PSU do you need a 220v outlet?

Also everyone, if I use two PSUs do I have to connect them together?

You need to use add2psu

Usually yes, they are 230V but some are multirange 120-230V.

You need to connect only grounds. But they already are connected via mains ground.

14 connectors but only 9 cables:

Four Cables    8 pins (6+2 pins) PCI Express connector
Five Cables    6 pins + 8 (6+2 pins) PCI Express connectors

     Yes. Can supply 14 x AMD RX 480 .

Hey man, Ive just order 2 antec HCP 1000W platinum for a similar rig. Good thing is you can connect these two together without a psu adapter. They do 850, 1000 and 1300s

Do you mean there is built in configuration for that specific power supply unit? That is quite handy for miners.

heres the link
http://www.antec.com/product.php?id=704514&fid=343&lan=us

its called oc link. Apparently even if one psu goes down the other tries to stop everything dying

From my mining experience, a 290 (and a 390) can easily push 250w+ if you're @stock volts/clocks.

Put 6 of them into a rig with minimal voltage / clock tuning and you'll be looking at a 1500w pull real fast.

The 2x Antec HCP 1000w suggestion is a good one.  I went with Silverstone 1500w units, which performed very well given the environment.

just undervolt to -100mv, and you will be fine with 200w max for each of those 390, so a 1500 will be enough

if i do it any risk ? hashrate down ? or anything?

the ratio will be in your favor between the hash and the consumption, you will lose soemthing, but it will be worth it, just be sure that the gpu will not be unstable

r9 nano use 1     8 pin  and can  do around 180 watts for 25mh stock  but they are costly.

I have 4 at 500 each  I do 720 watts and 101mh

settings are -80   1000 500

That's really good. I might get those.

Unless you need something immediately it'd probably be worth waiting to check out the new R9 480, release date is the 27th iirc.

Yeah, I saw that when I was reading the forum. I'll wait and try to buy around ten R9 480s if they are $200 a piece. Does anyone know if there will be preorders?

But there is still not enough pcie connectors.

this is the reason why i like the new gpu, they come with 1 x 8 pin only, no more 8+6 crap

Which new GPUs have that? Less connectors

1070 g1 gaming and 1080 g1 gaming have 1 8 pin only, the 480 will likely be the same, since they all consume very little

The 480 only uses 1 6 pin power connector  Grin

Awesome because 6 pins are easier to come by if you have some older psu units laying around.

You will probably need at least 2 PSUs or one big 1500W or 1600W PSU which won't be cheap.

Actually you will need at least 2 PSUs since there are no single PSU out there with 12 PCIe connectors.

There is (I have it), and with 14 PCI-e connectors: Super Flower Leadex Platinum 2000W (8 Pack). More info on: http://www.kitguru.net/components/power-supplies/zardon/superflower-leadex-platinum-8-pack-edition-2000w-review/   and https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/SuperFlower/SF-2000F14HP/1.html . For the 390, if you use -100mV, 1060/1125 MHz, it will consume about 220-240W each. If you use 970/1000, -200 mV, it will consume 160-170 W each.

Or would it be better to get something like R9 380? with lower cost and power with a slight drop in hashrate
