Natural disaster is disaster where we are really helpless.
We just wake up and all of our house is destroyed. We can be happy to be still alive.
I can imagine suffering of people after natural disaster must be horrible where all our stuff is ruined.

Pray for morocco.

It was terrible. The estimated casualty was just 200 when I saw it reported on TV just after it happened. The last report I've seen now say it's at least a 2000 dead, which is quite big jump. I just hope there would be no new calamity that would strike the area that would make things harder for people (saw the news about Libya being flooded).

I've got a friend working there for a prominent people but it looks like he's affected at all because I haven't asked in which place he's based.
Just to give an update, I've asked a friend of mine from Morocco and he's not from the area where the earthquake occurred. He said that if it's where he is right now, more people will be dead. But regardless of what he said, the victims in Marrakech is still a lot and we're all feeling the loss even if we're not their neighbors, or relatives but a human being who has a feeling of sympathy for the victims.

I really feel the pains there going true right now. I'm also apelling to other African countries to render help to Moroccans.
Much help is being extended there and for sure their neighboring countries are on it as well and we're all praying for them as this is one of their toughest times to get up.

This is really a very hard time for the people of Morocco. They really need the support of every one of us and especially the international community.

May the almighty God see them through.

The earthquake that occurred in one of Morocco's cities, Marrakech, that caused 2681 deaths and 2501 injuries is currently receiving the necessary support from the international communities.

Days after the incident, some international communities intervened by sending aid to the Moroccan people to help in the rescue of those who are yet to be rescued and the delivery of urgent medical care to those who are most in need of it to survive. In response to the earthquake, the EU has donated one million euros for humanitarian purposes.

The countries that have so far provided relief to the citizens of Marrakech are Italy, Turkey, Tunisia, Algeria, France, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Spain. To read further about the aid provided by each country click here

My heartfelt condolences to the people of Morocco. Let Allah console the families that have lost their loved ones and bring special healing to those that need it most

It is a pity for the people of Morocco to suffer this kind of earth quake after 1960 that it had a historical earthquake killing people in thousand.

The international community should really rally round Morocco to help them out of the casualty that is already increasing. For last hour ago, the death toll has climbed to around 2,500 and the injured is also about the figure for the death. This is a shocking for Africa continent, just when they are having issues with coup and AU working to ensure peace and this calamity is happening at same time. This is sad to see, watching the video makes me feel bad.

This is very terrible news for us as human beings and very pitiful which pains our hearts As far as I know the death toll has gone above 2000.It is certain that their economic condition will be severely affected as the damage has already been done and we the people of the world should come together and share their sufferings with them.We should pray more for them even if we can't help them financially that they can successfully return to their former status. To my knowledge, Morocco has seen such a terrible earthquake in many years and the death toll may rise.It is difficult to say what the death toll will be in the end as the death toll is increasing every day and the reports of the outbreak are increasing one after the other.
Finally, we need all countries to step up on their humanitarian side and step up fast otherwise the death toll from these accidents will continue to rise, and their economic condition will collapse. And they will fall behind in every way, so we should come forward especially with financial help if not military and other means personal help should come forward come back to.

My heart goes out to the people of Morocco during this incredibly difficult time. The magnitude of this tragedy is truly staggering. The location of the epicenter, in the High Atlas Mountains, adds to the challenges. It's crucial that we come together as a global community to offer support and assistance. Death toll is now at 2,122 people and 2,421 injured (1,400 critically). Let's keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

My personal condolences to the people in Morocco.
Leaving the causalities and material damages on one side, I would like to comment on something I think it is curious.

Here in my country ans in other countries in this continent we have had to deal with earthquakes of similar magnitude or strength before, the last one I recall was quite strong and I remember to see my house move much, however, there were no casualties or massive material damages here.

Leads me to believe that perhaps Morocco infrastructure was not built keeping in mind such destructive events taking place?
The devastation will depend on the magnitude of the earthquake and the areas it happened. The earthquake in Morocco is a powerful 6.8-magnitude and it is the highest the country has ever experienced since 1900. Marrakech the worst-hit area is mountainous which makes it a complicated terrain to build on. But your point is valid Hispo, most of those houses were not built to withstand this kind of natural disaster. With the knowledge of how earthquake-prone the areas are, the structures there would have been built to withstand this disaster. All these irregularities and substandard building is caused mainly by poverty and corruption. Most of these local dwellers are poor and can not afford standard houses and the government has been accused of mismanaging the country's resources.

This was the same problem Turkey had when 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude hit the country. Most of the buildings were not built based on modern technological standards and the latest earthquake regulations. Corruption was the main issue in Turkey because regulatory bodies failed to do their work. Lands were even allocated to estate companies to build in areas that shouldn't be built on.

There has been help from countries like Qatar, Spain, UK, and Joe Biden just announced that the US will give Morrocco all the support they need. We just hope that they get all the support they need to overcome this great loss.

It is a big contrast if we see at countries which have to deal with earthquakes and other natural disasters quite often and their funds are managed in a responsible way, Japan and Chile come to mind when dealing with earthquakes, their buildings are explicitly built so they can endure as much as possible those events, small movements are so common there that I have been told people do do pay attention to them anymore, unless it is specially strong.

Also, Florida houses are build to face seasonal hurricanes and do not suffer permanent damages and be able to shelter people during those events. It just shows how far engineering can go when politicians truly care about people's well being, hopefully USA and other allies as relieve the pain of those poor victims..

I've got a friend working there for a prominent people but it looks like he's affected at all because I haven't asked in which place he's based. So probably he's not affected by the earthquake. It's sad that this has happened and many people have died, these natural calamities really come to places in the most unexpected times. Condolences to the loss of Morocco and as well as to the affected families that have been badly hit by this.

Seriously? The best shot your got at getting help is asking people to pray? I think it would be much more useful to ask for help and international support, but the best thing your could actually do for the people of Morocco is firstly get rid of your monarch, which seems to care too much for his German friend and gang and little for his "subjects" and then keep on getting rid of the kleptocracy and have a chance to become the great country it could be.
It's okay, for sure that international aide and help are already been deployed there. For someone like me that isn't able to send help despite of having a friend over there, all I can do is pray and that's what he's going to say to me as well if ever he approaches me about the incident there although he hasn't relayed on me yet.

The news shocked the entire world, including the African continent and closed European countries in the region. Natural catastrophes often have a long-term impact on the countries they affect, I hope they are able to overcome the loss and find an irreplaceable solution to this or reduce the likelihood of it happening again in the future. Natural catastrophes cannot be avoided, but their effects can be lessened by educating people about the hazards and teaching earthquake safety, which can help reduce human-caused earthquakes. This is heartbreaking news for the Moroccan people, and I hope the international community responds quickly. Many people have expressed their heartfelt condolences and prayers to them. I hope and pray they overcome this and we also pray such never happens to any country in the future again.

Don't get me wrong bro, I already mentioned it that Morocco needs the support of the international community. So whichever way, I really feel for Morocco and wish for them to get the required support as soon as possible.

With all respect there isn’t much any normal person can do from another continent to help. Maybe you should fly out there & give your support or donate or something if you want to ridicule others for showing feelings towards the tragedy. I would be full of support for abolishing the Monarchy but that’s another discussion. Hopefully the UN & all other organisations of that type provide food, shelter & help to those directly affected. Please do share your experiences of yourself out there helping, photos etc if you want to ridicule others for posting about it online then surely you will be out there on the ground helping.

I would have to send you my tax certificates, as my country helps with money (my money) and resources not with prayers or nice words. I would in exchange ask those distributing the aid in Morocco for some credible proof that the help is actually reaching those that it is intended for, because I got the feeling that a large part will find its way into the coffers the the Moroccan elite.

So before trying to be morally superior or dictating what other can say, take a few seconds to understand how the world works.

This is really a very hard time for the people of Morocco. They really need the support of every one of us and especially the international community.
I pray and hope for them because it will be the most difficult time for the people who have lost lives and then their property.

I hope for the injured and displaced to get the best help they can get and that the rescue workers are quickly able to find others that are trapped under the rubles left before it is too late.

If prayers would really work, then I guess we wouldn't have such terrible tragedies...

Sorry for Moroccan people. US sources say 6.8 but Moroccan sources say 7.0. Either way it's not a small earthquake but number of death looks too many for this kind of earthquake. I heard it's the biggest earthquake in Morocco in the last century so they may have been caught unprepared. If there are many buildings that are not suitable for earthquakes especially in rural areas, this may have increased the number.
There are many earthquakes in our country. Even though we are better prepared, we have many losses in these earthquakes. I can feel their pain. I hope everything gets better soon there.
I guess it's something similar what happened in Turkey. Most of buildings weren't capable to whitstand such strong earthquake and outcome of it is much bigger number of victims than it could be. Every country which is dangerous zone where earthquakes can happen must follow Japan example where rules is very strict and their buildings can whitstand strong earthquakes. Unfortunately, it's not always possible, not just because these countries is poor but also because of corruption.
