8 YEARS is really a long time frame . As considering there 33 Billion coins so it will make starting block really huge and ending block rewards very small .
Or if you are thinking to make first block halving after couple of years then that too wouldn't be a good idea as mining after release or after a
year will give same reward and eventually miners wil lose interest .
Either decreasing the time frame of 8 years would be a good idea or decreasing the total number of coins so they will have relative block reward .
