Normally, I would agree with you.
But, since this is almost purely a business model. Funds are needed to finance the business ideas that come from it.
Read through the ANN and check out the site. I welcome any constructive feedback / criticism.

-Buy mining hardware to gather/sell other coins.
-Develop an exchange.
-Sell stuff in an online shop.
-[Insert idea here]
There are some savvy business folks that I know have some great ideas. HoG is trying to bring these folks together to push these ideas forward.
There's a lot of talented and hungry individuals in the crypto world, looking for a way in, this is it.
