Well, preev.com is one of the most popular site among the Bitcoin community so why does the owner not care about this cash cow  Huh

Also, when the site is down for so many days, people will shift to some other sites (few of them are available these days) and may not know that this site is back again.

Also, this site is not https protected, as it is showing "non-secure", and looks non-professional  Sad

If it would be cash cow, I'm sure that we would see different approach from owner. No it doesn't generate much or any profit as there is no ad banners or affiliate links on website. So, most likely aim of this website isn't profit and it's probably just side project of owner which don't requires much work and time.

There was one of the most famous bots on Twitter, which I thought was managed by someone with technical experience, but it turned out to be someone who bought the bot and was managing it. So I would not be surprised if the person running the site was someone with no technical knowledge and thought of it more as a side project than something that could generate income.

He may have had enough Bitcoin and become too busy.

Again I would not take this argument, as if he was a non-techy person or if he did not need the site anymore, why did he renew the domain and make the site available online? He could have just let the project go but he somehow brought it back online.

I think the owner is more sort of a careless person who does not understand that he has a diamond with him but does not know the worth of it  Undecided

They could, it's not a problem. But from what we saw in recent years, it seems that owner of Preev.com simply doesn't cares much about his website anymore.

And it seems that Preev.com is back again guys.
Good, only question for how long this time? It looks that recently they're more time down than online.

They could move their DNS to buddyns

Free service is 300K query/month
$3 a month for 3mil query/month

I've found similar website:

That seems to be the exact same copy of preev.com but many people may not know about this site. I just checked and it has around 2K monthly visits. (stats by Similiarweb)

Usually, most people know only about preev.com and they don't search for similar sites like preev.

I'm bookmarking this.

Same here  Smiley

The lack of a reference price for Bitcoin is what makes this site popular. If you want to trade outside exchange, there is no reference price for bitcoin. I can give you three prices for Bitcoin:

  • Google 27,511.40 USD
  • CoinMarketCap 27,499.46 USD
  • Coingecko: 27,507.41 USD

they simply took a service as a reference which is Preev.com, and people continued to do that, which made it popular.

Coinmarketcap.com and coingecko are not the same as preev. They are good reference prices.

Those services provide a bitcoin price based on the price of list of major exchanges,  weighted by their volume.

Preev doesn't do that. It may be getting the price from binance only, or coingecko or whatever.

I understand that people use it as a reference price, but I personally don't understand why ...

I've found similar website:

Note though that I'm not connected with the developer of this site.
This website has a UI that is a 1 to 1 copy to preev.com. But I think the difference is in the details. The only price source this website has is Bitstamp. Bitstamp is a good and long running exchange but these days doesn't have that big of a share in the market's total volume. Preev was better in providing an average price between more exchanges. Still visually and functionally it's very good and also has no ads. Keeps the original's spirit up. I'm bookmarking this.

UI is similar to https://pnnv.com

Where you found it, it is simple and serves the purpose, the only problem is that they rely on one exchange API which is bitstamp. The price will not represent an average and depends on a single source, which may not give reliable results.

No, just the OG members, i don't think the new ones heard about preev other than here. I'm one of those who have been curious why preev is very famous here when cmc, coingecko, coindesk and other cmc-like site is much more better, more accurate for average price, many option to convert, etc.
The reason why we liked Preev is simple, it showed us a price, right away, with no distractions.

I've used BitcoinAverage a lot before as well, but now they don't even have a calculator anymore, so it has also become outdated. CoinGecko is very nice, but can't beat the simplicity. 🤷‍♂️

EDIT: Just noticed that Preev.net uses the CoinGecko API, so it does actually show an average price. Very nice.
Bitcoinaverage normally has a price conversion tool here But it seems like it works through a websocket that is just broken right now and the website probably hasn't been maintained for quite a while.
I also like coinmarketcap's widget, it currently works but isn't as fast or easy to use: https://coinmarketcap.com/converter/
Also not as clear as to what data it uses. 🤷‍♂️

For a simple website like preev.com, Cloudflare's free plan should be an adequate enough DNS provider. If you don't need a full pro account there are some premium add-ons that are extremely cheap and you can pay as you go. Alternatively, if the admin just doesn't want to put much effort into maintaining the website they could probably sell the domain for a good amount. Anybody wanting to build a website around Bitcoin will get good traffic because it has a very recognizable name.

After PNNV.com owner decided to remove price checker from main page, I started using your website. Everything is great, I like such simplicity, but there is one thing that I miss here a lot - mBTC conversion.

I know about that shortcoming and a few others. I still have a whole list of additions that are planned to be implemented. Of course, the main focus will be on the Bitcoin price calculator. With the obvious problem that preev.com has, it seems I have to push the whole thing.

Issues with Preev.com already become continous in last few years. I think it's time to forget aboutthem and move on. Especially when there is few good alternatives. I know, many of us had habbit to check price on this website and it's difficult to change it. But you can't rely on website which is down most of time.

Honestly, I don't have much time to devote to improving the price calculator on preev.net
I had a desire, but in addition to time, I still lacked specific programming knowledge to implement everything I planned here. Nothing spectacular, just a couple of additions that would bring more usefulness than the usual "BTC-live price calc".

I don't get how preev got  só many access. Usually when I need to know btc price I just write BTC USD in Google or any other Google search.

That site has been my go-to for a quick check on Bitcoin prices and conversions. It's been down for a while now, and honestly, I've lost hope that they'll ever come back. But I'm glad to see that there are some alternatives floating around, so I'm grateful to those who've shared them.

However, if they do happen to make a comeback, I'll probably go right back to using them. You know how it is – you get so used to something after it's been a part of your daily routine for years. Checking prices there has become a daily habit for me.

1) bitmover developed a good website with multiple options, but it is not a simple price tracking tool with a short URL and a simple interface just like it was in Preev.com.
2) The site owner talked about updates to the UI, so the site is not currently working as a simple tool for displaying the price of Bitcoin.

Thanks for mentioning

The idea was to have multiple fiat currencies and all bitcoin units, not as simple as preev
