It seems like there are differing opinions on the best position for Declan Rice within the team, with Emmanuel Petit suggesting he should play as a defensive midfielder to fill the void left by Granit Xhaka. On the other hand, you argue that Rice is playing excellently in an attacking midfield role and is contributing defensively when needed.
This difference in perspective is common in football discussions, as opinions on player positions and tactics can vary among fans, analysts, and former players. The versatility of a player like Rice can be an asset for a team, allowing the manager to deploy him in different roles based on the team's needs and tactical considerations.
Ultimately, the effectiveness of Rice in a particular position depends on the team's overall strategy, the manager's tactics, and how well the player can adapt to different roles. It's not uncommon for players to showcase versatility and excel in various positions, offering valuable flexibility to the team. What do you think about Rice's role at Arsenal?
Since the arrival of Declan Rice in Arsenal, I have witnessed Arteta play him in two positions now. He started in the Defensive midfield (No.6) and other times, as a No. 8. He’s excel in both positions when playing for Arsenal but for me, his best position is to be at the No 6 role, though he has also impressed as a No 8 for Arteta in recent weeks.
Rice brings control, drive, poise and tenacity in central midfield.
When Thomas Partey returns to full fitness, Rice will be freed to move his talents higher up the field. Rice, Partey and Odegaard.
Also, I think Rice's playing position all depends on Arteta. Going into most big games that demands more defensive actions, Arteta prefers to shift Rice to No.8 and play a certain Jorginho at his No.6, which sometimes hinders the creativity in the midfield.
Arsenal are still a fine side and have been boosted by Rice's presence in midfield, but the lack of creativity on occasions is something Arteta will want to nip in the bud sooner-rather-than-later.
