Currently Manchester United has three different competitions including the Premier League, League Cup and Champions League. Andre Onana can appear in two competitions between the Champions League and the Premier League, but Ten Hag has to play another goalkeeper so that Onana can observe the performance of other players.
I agree with you about little things like that, but it feels like Ten Hag has put too much faith in Andre Onana so far. If in the next match Onana makes another blunder or fatal mistake, then I think it would be good for him to be on the bench for several matches.
Arteta did that to Arsenal's first goalkeeper name Ramsdale, by substituting him for Arsenal's second goalkeeper name Raya. Now the second goalkeeper has taken the position of the first goalkeeper. The same thing can happen in Manchester United if Ten Hag wants it to happen. It's all about giving the second goalkeeper a chance to perform to his best.
