you need to read in their thread/announcement to know the details of the project. you need to read their whitepaper, know the dev and the team, what their plan with the ico especially for their long term plan because its important, people wants to know what will happen with the ico after its launch in the market and what is the benefit for the investor and the customer. i think they have their own channel so the investor can meet them directly and talking to them related with the project. but i don't know how to prevent from the scam ico because its need time to know this.
First of all, we must admit that ICO's profit is very large. It depends on whether you choose a good ICO investment. So a good ICO still needs to identify itself. No one else can help you. We can only give you some reference: looking for details from the white paper. See team strength: team includes technology, marketing, whether there is venture capital, etc.. See if the project has landed. If it's just a concept, you have to be careful.

Do we need to use a blockchain in order to solve this? Is there a market for this? Do I understand what this project is about? If all the previous question were answered in a satisfactory way then you may invest in the project but that does not guarantee you are going to get profits.
