So if you can't reintegrate a head into its existing body you glue it to a new one? How would that work? You wouldn't have to just dick around with a handful of dead or damaged nerves, but every single one of them. I assume they're more qualified than myself.

Personally I'd rather go for a mechanical body. More fun. Probably less freaky in the long run too.

To connect nerves is the most difficult thing in such an operation. During the operation on monkeys, everything went well. And what will be in doubt on the person. But the monkey is like a human being on the side of the body so there is a chance of success.

Care to share some sources?
I bet you are talking about the animal experiments of the soviets.
The animals all died after the head transplants. There was no surviving specimen.

Monkeys did not die after a head transplant, they were killed 20 hours after the operation for ethical reasons. In 1970, too, successfully underwent an operation to transplant the head of a monkey, but the body after 9 days rejected his head. After organ transplants, you need to use expensive medicines against immunity to save life.

If the nerves were connected and there was no mobility, then it wasn't a successful surgery. Until its tried again with no problems and everything is fully functional. I think they shouldn't go along with it at all.

If the nerves are incorrectly connected, then the body will be paralyzed. Experiments with monkeys were successful, but they could not move. Rather, it will also be with a person. Therefore, I think it is too early to do such an operation. You need to learn how to properly connect your nerves.

I just did a little research and there are about 24 nerves between the head and the neck. I am thinking this will be a success but if there are able to make a robot with nerves and connect it to a human head successfully. That will be a huge achievement.

The monkeys were paralysed though. In that case you may as well stay with the body that's already attached.

I heard about the forthcoming operation for a head transplant. A volunteer is a Russian programmer with a serious illness. I hope the doctor has thought it through and the operation will be successful. We need to develop in this direction to help the seriously ill.

We'll end up with a lot of wrinkly rich old lady heads on smoking hot fit young womens bodies.

In 50 years the rich wont have to look after their bodies as they'll be classed as a disposable item.

Transplantation of a person's head is a very important step in the development of medicine, but only very well-off people can afford it. This venture is risky enough, but it can save the lives of many people. I hope the operation will be successful and the person will not turn into Frankenstein.
I don't understand transplanting head will cost 10million what? I think very expensive comparing the difference bitcoin the poor and rich. I think what the politicians will be doing now is to buy poor people head and be transplant to their own so they can live happy forever.

It turns out that if the operation is successful, very rich people can live forever. Only they will have to constantly use expensive medicines that will prevent the rejection of the body. It all depends on how ready the medicine is for such a step.

This is fascinating and disturbing at the same time. So basically you get to change your body and keep your head right? I can just imagine some sci-fi movie where people would swap out their bodies for more desirable ones they've acquired in various ways. Hey, I need a larger member, would they allow me to swap it out.   Grin

It's only a matter of time until we start transplanting just the brain and then later hooking up to the brain to a mechanical body. I remember a game years ago where they have a faction where everyone's a cyborg, with the brain the only human part left in their body.
I once saw a man who had transplanted someone else's heart. He had no money for the operation, but he did it for free as an experiment. Then he spent all his money on purchase of antidepressants and died when the money had ended.

Wait, he got a new heart then he died? Was the death a result of the procedure? From what I remember you have to take certain meds to stop the body rejecting the transplanted organ. If I he died because of complications, that's just sad. He would have to take those meds for life and if he should at least be given monthly supplies of them.

Do you have the link to any article about this? I wonder what their agreement was.

After the operation, you need to take special medications to reduce immunity. The body begins to reject foreign organs and tissues, inflammations can occur and antibiotics must be used regularly. So even if the operation is successful, the person will not be able to live long.

I'm sorry but I don't believe that such transplant is possible for now. This is bad science. As a understand it, he claims to say that we have the technical abilities to perform such difficult surgery, but are there any preliminary experiments to back it up? Does the medical or ethical board allow this kind of Frankenstein procedure? I don't think so. I find it hard to believe that anyone is taking Canavero at all seriously.

We have already reached the transplantation of the brain. It's risky of course, but once you need to try. There are a lot of nuances in the preparation and selection of the right head. The main thing is that everything is properly sewn up and a new brain normally reacts to a new body.
The brain is not transplanted. Transplanted head completely. Soon to kill a man will need to make a headshot to destroy the brain. Like in a scary movie. The streets will be walking Frankensteins and zombies. I don't want to live in such a world.

But how to be seriously ill people? This will be a salvation for them and will provide an opportunity to live normally. Although such a person can not live long since the tissues will be foreign and will constantly push away each other, which will cause complications and inflammatory processes. So this zombie is only a fantasy Wink
