Just wanted to add another thumbs up for protonmail.

I took me about a week to get the invite. I donated after receiving it so I wouldn't know if donating speeds up your processing time.

The fact that your mail is stored in a secure way may not mean much.
Your mail travels through a couple of nodes until it gets stored on the safe servers. And those nodes are not secured. Also the sender..is that secured too?
And then.. what's the point?

That's why you should encrypt text with GPG for outgoing mails.
Don't be paranoid about it. You will only need that either if you are a terrorist of secret agent really. "Normal" people do no need something like that really.
And I want to know if I donate to proton mail will I get my account faster/instantaneously?
I'm neither terrorist nor NSA friend, but I do encryption, because for sure they can read our emails. (You are saying you're paranoid connecting with HTTPS?) And I'm not sure if you can get faster access for their service if you donate. They had such option in the last year's Crowdfunding... Ask them, they may do so.

How do we know Protonmail will not close down in the future? It's unlikely the big providers like gmail and yahoo will close down, but the small ones might find it's not paying and close. You could lose all your old emails if that happened.

Such risk always exist. But they're registered company, not some teenager in his basement running some project. If they were to close down, I assume they would give a notice in advance to give everyone a chance to backup their emails.

I am not paranoid. I use yahoo and gmail. I think this is the opposite of paranoid.
Just I didn't really understand the point of such mail service.

Thanks for the link. I think they encrypt all communication in such a way, that not even they have access to the content. If they are being forced to provide the email, they will provide it in it's encrypted form.

It's scary to think that most of us, just accept the status quo.... "They snoop, we just have to accept it"

I always imagine a scenario where a person from some government organization is allowed to sit with you and your family in your living room, whilst you watch TV to make sure you abide by the rules.

They invade you privacy in the electronic world, and we just do not care.  Sad

Protonmail is an email provider that attempts to keep your email private. They are based in Switzerland and do not have to adhere to disclosure laws like the other service providers based in other countries. {They have their own laws}

They are accepting donations to expand and grow their services to accept more accounts in future.

They have reached capacity but donations will keep them going to protect your email privacy.

If you know of any other email service providers with this goal, please share with us.

If they accept Bitcoin donations, we will support them, because our privacy is important to us.

Looks good, thanks for the heads up op, always nice to know safe ways to have a god damn email those days, something difficult. For now registration is closed tho.

I requested invitation on July 2014, received invitation in January 2015. Expect some delay when requesting it.
wo, half an year of waiting! They must severely be short of fund to expand their capacity quickly. I wonder what is the source of their revenue, otherwise how can they survive!
Actually I got an invite in like a month or even less. It really depends, I'm not sure on which factors. Luck?
I'm just going to recommend them. Everyone should sign up with it and use as primary email or at least secondary. Safety and privacy comes first in times like these.

Didn't they send out all invites in January 2015? I got mine on then too.
In such case, the waiting time depended on when did you request invite.

When did you asked for invitation? Maybe it's luck, yeah... Anyway protonmail with GPG seems to be most secure way to protect your privacy.

How they did this? If they encrypted your email, And how the receiver open it, if their use another mail provider?

You could ask Kevin in the thread on Reddit  Grin

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2zddrk/protonmail_accepts_bitcoin/

I posted it there too, to get more people to notice it. Other service providers are good and they have great features, but they share your information or they bombard you with Ad's or they snoop on your private conversations.

These guys host their own servers and they operate from a neutral country, with it's own laws. Do not use them for illegal activities... your account will be suspended... but have some more privacy.
They explain everything on their site.  Cool

Yes.. there is a waiting period, because they are high in demand {That should tell you something} but with more crowd funding they could grow quicker and have instant account activation like the rest of them.

I support them, because they support Bitcoin donations....  Grin

They had a crowdfunding campaign on July 2014 which perk had 'instant invitation'. I missed it, so I had to wait a lot.
