UN gives Qatar a year to end forced labour of migrant workers.

Qatar has promised to introduce a new law later this year to end the kafala system under which migrant workers can only work for their sponsor and have no freedom to change employer or leave the country without their employers’ approval. Human rights campaigners have complained this allows conditions that amount to modern-day slavery for many of the migrant worker population of more than 1.5 million in Qatar.

The action comes in response to a complaint from a dozen countries including the UK, France, Pakistan and Canada, that Qatar was failing to observe the UN convention on forced labour.

Qatar is rich but like I said, If they rely solely on oil, they'll become the next Venezuela. They have to find others ways of making money.

Qatar has spent the oil/gas money wisely, unlike Venezuela. Although they are splashing some money in events such as the 2022 FIFA World Cup, they have build up sizable assets using the sovereign wealth fund.

They are rich but as you see nowadays, they can't even go to bathroom without the West's permission.

Qatar is an artificial state of England. They originally belonged to Saudi's but the oil under that soil is just too much so the elites in the UK decided that that small soil has to have its own country.

Why do you think they buy all those lambos, golden showers and every unnecessary overpriced shit? Because they have to. That's how the West get their oil for free.

If they ever start thinking about education, philosophy, human rights and any other stuff which only exists in Euope&USA, they'll get bombed to the ground.

USA&EU are paying them so they can stay stupid and give their oil for free and they are so stupid, they use that money for lambos instead of educating themselves.

So what will they do when the electric and hybrid cars will take over and this will only take a few years to happen. Many manufacturers of cars which accounts for the most usage of oil nowadays will become self efficient and not need the oil anymore. I know the industry still needs oil as Airplanes cannot move long distances with electric motors, but still cars are much more than planes. Maybe oil will not be so expensive then, as it is now, we are paying an overpriced gasoline price here in Europe compared to the US.

Oil will always has a value and it will always be the cheapest energy source for cars. There will always people who favor oil cars over electric cars. The demand may decrease but it will always exist.

Electric cars use Lithium batteries and Lithium resources are also not unlimited. If Lithium prices start to get expensive because of manipulation or actual demand, the whole electric car business may lose its charm.

The most optimal way of using electricity in cars is making them hybrid right now. Electric only cars have many drawbacks like the long recharging times which oil cars don't.

Qatar is rich but like I said, If they rely solely on oil, they'll become the next Venezuela. They have to find others ways of making money.

I do not know if I should be proud that countries in Asia were among those richest country in the world because I am from Asia but my country was not part of it.  Hopefully someday.  No wonder why many of my countrymen were going abroad in those richest country in Asia.  But I was amazed that Saudi was the least on that list that you posted.  Well, despite the crisis that Qatar has been this year, they still maintained their position, I wonder now if I should go to that country or not.

It still definitely have a smaller population than Saudi Arabia so that might affect the figures.

Oil has that effect on people.......it makes them rich.

That average is obviously high because of the vast amount of wealth at the very top. People near the bottom don't make a lot, but the one's at the top make more than the worldwide average.

if car manufacturer creates and supports water/hydrogen being the fuel of cars, those oil countries will come tumbling down. we'll probably see arabs eating asian crickets and super worms for their meals. but then of course that's not going to happen. US has more oil businesses apart from war businesses.

Save for it's effect on the environment, countries growing rich from oil is fine. The real problem is that the elites there use the money to fund  Islamism in other parts of the world. They seem to see it as a religious obligation. Funny that it wouldn't have been possible have it not for that oil engine from "Great Satan America". Prior to that, these countries are just barren land. Even Dubai maintains an exhibit to remind people what it looked like before the oil boom.

Thank you for this info.
Yes, it seems that Qatar is still no 1 in the world but it can change very quickly.
Qatar is in a very hostile environment and in political and economic blockade by neighbors.
Some predictions suggest possible violent conflict resolution and war.
In such scenario, Qatar will loose freedom and wealth.

Do you think that the Saudis have the balls to invade Qatar and loot the natural resources? Do you remember what happened to Kuwait, after the Iraqis invaded that nation? Also, there are American military bases inside Qatar, and this rules out any chance of a third party invasion.

Despite the sanctions/blockade from Saudi Arabia and its allies, Qatar has maintained its position as the richest country in the world, ahead of Luxembourg. Interestingly, 4 out of the 5 countries are in the Asian continent, with Macau, Singapore, and Brunei occupying positions #3 to #5. Average wages in Qatar stands at $129,112 per head, which is almost double of that in the United States.

That is per capita I guess! If you notice, these countries are really small. So no wonder the per capita is very high because aside from being small countries, they have really huge income.

Asian countries are doing good. Time to change our way of looking at things. Time to dump aside the stereotypical way of looking at things.

I can't believe this. Now i know why most of the indians work in Qatar. How can a small nation become so rich. I did some research on google. I found out that Qatar has became the richest nation because of their Oil and Gas resources. They are actually richest enough to build a stadium for the 2022 world cup.

There is a report that 40%of Qatar marriages end in divorce. Most of Qataris,
Qataris benefit from free education, free healthcare, job guarantees, grants for housing, even free water and electricity, but abundance has created its own problems.

Like to know more about Qatar from you guys...

What? I knew it was high but I didn't know it was THAT high. No wonder alot of people go overseas and work there.

I did a bit of research on Qatar's economy, it says that taxable income generally is subject to a flat (CIT) rate of 10%. That's alot lower than I expected with that high of an average wage.
