What was this for?

That's how much it cost to rent the yacht out in the Bahamas for last year's Staff Christmas party.

Are you serious? Was that necessary...

No, he was being sarcastic.

I haven't finished with 2015 yet.

2014 is as follows:

Code:
Income:
Donations: $114.78
Ads: $419,671.12
Expenses:
Fees & services: $10,886.03
Forum software project: $1,151,595.23
Other contractors: $39,297.05
Mod payments: $104,575.79
Bounties: $505.30
It's good to see forum is covering it's expenses and making sime profit from ads. Except the expenses for new forum software are covered from forum reserve.

Hi theymos,

I wanted to open this public thread just to ask you if it is possible to post the current forum finances. Basically a thread/update like this : https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/forum-finances-780707

Thanks for the attention.
Wow they spent a sh*t tonne on this forum in 2013. I wasn't on this forum when it happened, does anyone know what changes occurred? I also quite curious to see what it has become since then.

Not exactly. 2013 was the time just before Gox, when the bitcoin price was $1200, wasn't it? The value of bitcoin was multiple times more expensive than in the year before.

Well, I am happy to know that the forum is doing well. This talk about listing it on the stock exchange is interesting, does that mean forum members can buy shares sometime in the future?

I thought blockstream paid for that, or at least them paying for that party would explain all the blockstream speakers there. I was also under the assumption that the party cost a lot more then $40k

If you haven't donated why is this anyone's business much less concern?

~BCX~

It's true that this is none of the 'normal' users' business but I do like to see how the forum is going.  The auctions and adstats tells a lot but knowing more doesn't hurt, the forum might be in a bad shape and the users won't even know it (to do anything about it).

I think theymos ended the deal around a year ago.  He said it here.
Though the ad at the bottom didn't get removed until months later.
Thanks for the information. I was under the impression that the forum still had ties with PIA in the form of their hosting sponsorship. A little off-topic, but any idea why the sponsorship deal was cancelled? IIRC a few months back there was some discussion as to how much control theymos had over the Bitcointalk servers (could he truly secure them if PIA hosted the servers?) but I think that discussion was just among the community here and theymos didn't chime in.

I'll never know why so many people are interested in the forum finances, how money gets spent etc, especially if they've never donated anything.

Odd.
I think it's just interesting to see what kind of expenses and income a forum of this size has. I was quite surprised to see that the forum made ~ 645 BTC (at current prices) from ads during 2015, I thought that ads would have brought in a lot less money.

On a different note, I remember that the forum used to be sponsored by PIA, and PIA hosted Bitcointalk. I don't see a note at the bottom of pages on the website anymore stating that PIA sponsors the forums - has this deal ended? If so, I'd be curious as to what the estimated annual cost is to host these forums. I don't imagine it would be too cheap for a website this size.
