I would buy R9 280x simply because its new and has better resale value...

I doubt they are even making the 7970's anymore. The 280x's are cheaper as well.

Not if you buy used 7970.....

There almost identical cards and should should get the same speeds. There's no reason to go such great lengths to get a 7970.

Used 7970 is cheaper....

Not much of a comparison. GPU's don't have a long lifespan mining. Hopefully you at least get one that a miner didn't owned. So far I've had a 85% failure rate on my cards after 2 years of mining.

The 2nd hand lifespan used to be longer, But I guess due to the recent mining operation the card that you get might most probably be used for mining and the lifespan is like 40%?

As i said i dont belive in used cars, they might be used 100% all of time like mining now. GPU paste fries in 2 months

I have a Gigabyte 280x and the max I can get is 640/Kh.

With --shaders 2048 --thread-concurrency 8192 -g 2 -w 256 -I 13
1100 clock
1500 memory
I only get 596/Kh

Try lowering your overclock and changing your thread concurrency.. 640/Kh is not optimum yet...

I only reached 640/Kh with

--thread-concurrency 16384 -I 20

Since they are both similar if you will also be using for for gaming I would buy the R9 280X since it supports DirectX 11.2 and also make sure to get one with a nice cooler such a gigabyte or msi card.

7970, is cheaper and same shit you get from them

But R9 280x new chip is coming.. who knows it might be much better

coming, but now 7970 are better

This is a long term mining so better wait few weeks for a better one Smiley
