Merit system have been implemented to clean up the forum because the moderators have seen that there are users tgat are spamming and posting out of topic or with no sense. This forum should be the knowledge base to people who wants to know deeply abiut crypto. But with the amount of spammers in this forum won't meet that vision. Although I thought also that it's quite hard to gain merits but as users we should follow rules and try our best to meet up.

I think he's missing the point of democracy... The merit system IS a democracy. It's based on users giving merit for posts that THEY deem meritorious. It's not like the staff of the forums are the ones who are choosing who gets merit and who doesn't... The merit system is as democratic as you can get lol
As much as I like the Merit system, I have to disagree that it's a democracy. "Voting rights" are unevenly distributed, and Newbies don't get to vote.
That's actually a good thing, because (as a rough estimate) about 90% of the users is Newbie. If this would be a democracy, the spammer with most accounts would get to decide.
Isn't this how democracy works? We don't give (physical) 6 year olds the option to vote (I say physical because I can find a lot of people in my country who are older that appear to have the same brain capacity of an average 6 year old - many of whom have been elected into power).

Create a new account, and try again to rise up to the legend with merit system.
Posts like this make me curious about your post quality. Let's summarize: "twitter links", "Great airdrop", "joining airdrop", "joined the airdrop", "more twitter links", ... let me see how many of your posts I can report.

Considering tringt's suggestion, I'm guessing that is his one of his personal airdrop/spam alt account and not his main one to be honest.

Quoting my old post so I can delete it.

~

Although it does feel very Black Mirror themed. I would prefer everyone had the option of 3 up or down votes a day maximum. But to avoid spammers and bad posts, the Merit system seems to work smoothly.
3 up and 3 down for everyone?

That makes users make several newbie accounts and just start downvoting when someone foils a scam they were hoping to pul off or something. I can see many users going negative from this that aren't so bad at posting, just make average non spammy posts.

There would have to be a defense against this therefore and that'll be difficult to come up with.

I know that Merit system is also implemented now but it will make almost impossible for me and thousands like me to advance to next rank.
That's intentional. Have you seen your post history? The Merit system is created to prevent users like you go up in rank.

According to my Activity and posts my rank should be Full Member by now but it is still Member. I know that Merit system is also implemented now but it will make almost impossible for me and thousands like me to advance to next rank. I hope there will some options for me and many members like me.

The best way is to take back this merit system and simply democratize the forum another way is to start a poll where members can vote in favor or against this system and the results should be implemented.

Why would the owners of the forum care if you rank up or not? This forum is designed to be a resource for information about bitcoin, not a bank. The owners don't care how much you earn from signature or bounty campaigns. The simple fact is, if you were a high quality member, you would have enough merit to rank up, it has been weeks since the merit system was introduced and you've only earned 1 merit. There are other users who are new to the forum who have earned hundreds of merit, and easily ranked up. The goal of the merit system is to ensure that only those that deserve it benefit from ranking up, the forum should not reward low quality members.

I suggested downvotes and upvotes for everyone, that way it would enable a balanced community. Seen it happen on tonnes of other forums (although not bitcoin related)

But the system at the moment is to help and enable the community to have a improvements, like the black box thinking theory (google it).

According to my shitposter radar op is one.. merit this merit that oh my I didn't level up.. merit ruined my life.. bore off and leave the forum if it is so bad.  Stop polluting our eyes with these posts or learn English and integrate into the community by helping out and contributing in a positive way

Or even find a local subforum you can post in with good constructive posts if English isn't your primary language. I assume theymos made all moderators merit sources.

This sounds like a BRILLIANT idea! I know how we can democratize this place, let's have you set up a poll in Meta that asks for a "yay" or "ney" vote on the current Merit system. Let's let the people decide!

Lets create a true democracy. We can all vote to determine if a post should be awarded a merit, or if it should be deleted. Of course democracy comes at a price - each member will need to contribute one Bitcoin every month to cover the server costs. Smiley

Are you joking? Maybe you're just one of the newbies that keeps on posting nonsense just to gain activities on the previous system that's why your proposing such shitness on this forum. Many of the people here are trying to do their best just to embrace and understand the new system, and now you want it to be gone?

Seriously, why would you propose such thing? Is it that you can't make a thread that has sense? You're just thinking of your own good mate, even if the others will try to agree with you, with that kind of perception you can't gather or earn anything.

This post is making my nerves completely insane!!! (I wish people like you would go back to kindergarten)

We don't need to start a poll for the merit system, you know full well how it will go. Many will be against it because there are really a lot of shitposters in this forum that are having a hard time ranking

I totally agree with this... there are too many of them amd you can't beat them tru their type of personality together with their perceptions and mindsets.

Did you know that the forum is centralized, even from the start Roll Eyes
There's always an admin who maintains this forum, first it was Satoshi and now Theymos.
When Theymos says that Merit system are here to stay, that's it, no point in arguing.
If the polling did happen, it will be cheated by alts anyway, it's fast to create a new account with 5 minute burner email Roll Eyes

You are free to leave/find your own democratic forum if you want Wink

I agree to you that creating a poll here before starting a new feature is not a good idea. However, the admin created a post before introducing this system. He created a post asking members to give their opinions on different ways that can help to improve post quality on this forum. Merit system was also mentioned as a solution by him and a lot of members supported the idea. We should also consider the fact that any forum or blog owner will not take a harsh decision like this until it is essentially required.

Make worthwhile posts that bring about quality discussion. Pretty solid option.

Well that is the problem. They can't make such quality and they are bitching about how hard it is to rank up. Anyways, as what Saltyspitoon says, put effort and thought to your post and for sure you will gain enough merits to rank up.

The pursuit is over.
You have two ways to earning merit. First and recommended to write constructive post and improve discussion and second way is to try deceive merit system and upgrade your rank buying merit or begging for them.
Do the 2nd option and there will be a punishment by DT, this forum has many eyes Wink
Although, I did see a few topics that offered their merits to be sold, this usually happens on Local sub-forum

I think you are a self-centered piece of NUT pretending that you actually care about others. It's pretty clear that you are begging to rank up for higher rates which I think won't happen until you accept the essence of the new system.
If you can't give a good conversation and information that would actually benefit the forum, why would you expect something from it ? I think with you complaining, you don't even deserve what you are gaining today as a member.
Help the forum, then I guess it is reasonable for you to gain more. If that is your only goal.

Your "rank" does not stop you in any way from meaningful participation in this forum.  Roll Eyes

These people don't really care about making any meaningful contributions, hence why the merit system is needed. They got used to lazily making their one line shitposts day after day just to breeze through the ranks and get paid by crapcoin campaigns in the process.

I love when low-ranked members say shit like this.

Reaching Legendary takes over two years. Earning 1,000 merits within that time shouldn't be that hard to do.

This is the point that people are missing but for those people who have dozens of accounts shitposting their way through ranks now isn't so easy and that's what most people are annoyed about. No more easy ticket to the rank of their desire just by logging on once a fortnight to splurge some half-assed post out. Now they have to put some effort in and that's why they feel so robbed.

Everyone will rank up. It will only take longer time and also not predictable any longer.

For you to rank up,  your activity and merit must rhyme. Activity is predictable but merit is not. We just have to find a way of earning merits because I don't think the system will be changed from what it is now.

The pursuit is over.

would you say it's democratize enough if the poll only available for Full members and up. you would say no.
but allowing lower rank members to vote is easily abused by account farmers times hundred accounts

You don't like the fact that people are voting that your posts aren't good enough to merit, so why are you invoking democracy here?  Because it serves your needs?

Sorry you're late to rank up, but that's how it's supposed to be, and that's because of the shitposters.  Keep trying, be patient, and you'll eventually rank up--or go away.
Create a new account, and try again to rise up to the legend with merit system.

I love when low-ranked members say shit like this.

Reaching Legendary takes over two years. Earning 1,000 merits within that time shouldn't be that hard to do. If you are active in the forums, and contributing to active topics via informational posts and great content, this shouldn't be that big of a problem. It may take you longer to earn the required merit than the required activity time to hit Legendary status, but remember... It's "Legendary". I quite like that it's going to be more difficult to obtain than the previous ranks.

It's not like you can become a Legendary member overnight, regardless of merit reqs or not.
