I confuse this is a for merit post. I saw tons of posts like this, in Meta and in this board, they try to make the post is their own unique content but all posts have same meaning, same advices.

With all due respect here Xiaolongnu- how you can say that about my post when i looked at your post history and you are quite simply a serial spammer and nothing else! Your post history is littered with bounty entries and spam. People like yourself are everything that is wrong with this place and you should really think before you write/speak!

Ironically one of your "friends" has merited your post which is an absolute disgrace really. There is nothing meritable about anything you say or have ever said on here.

Not that i really have to justify myself to you, but the fact there are MANY positive responses (one of which just bumped this thread up weeks later, so i seen your post only now) tells its own story. Meaning it has gave a little bit of hope and inspiration to others who are at least trying to be part of the community!!  Roll Eyes

Posts stand out by the content, more helpful information or lots of sentences but make it something people actually want to read. This will help us get merit to rank up.

Let me give you a tip. Quoting the original post in full is redundant and annoying. It gets you put on merit awarders' ignore lists, and that makes it harder for you to earn merits. I'm doing this to you as soon as I've made this post, and I hope it will be an example to other new members. Just read the advice threads, and you will see it is a repeated theme. I know it is far easier to just agree with posters, and not bother to read anything. but if you do this constantly, then you just become an annoying polluter and most people will start to ignore you.

Ranking up from newbie to jr member is easy cause you dont need any merits for it, but going forward to member and up you will need extra effort , you will now need merits which os hard to get these days.

@mundang, i'm in no hurry to rank up. It will happen when it happens. I think that's half of the problem on here actually, people expecting things to happen overnight and rank up quickly. Slow and steady wins the race!  Smiley

Can i also just say thanks to all that have taken something from this post, always good to hear of people being motivated.  Wink

There are lies, damned lies and statistics. MTwain
<…>If anyone has anything to add then i'd love to hear your thoughts! <..>
I tend to create largish posts too, simply because either they are either statistic based or because I put quite a bit of thought into them, and often come up with ideas that simply do not fit into a short paragraph. So no issues with long texts on my behalf if they are well structured, understandable and thought through.

Everyone who has ranked here in a decent amount of time since the Merit System kicked-off has his bag of dos and don’ts based on his own experience. These are not universal for everyone, but a common factor of the dos would include the highlights you’ve pointed out.

One basic thing to consider is post history. When awarding merit, one tends to look not only at the post, but also at the poster’s posting history track. If it is full of bounty reports and/or one/two liners with no added value, then the member may well go unmerited even if the post being scrutinized is decent.  Often, a decent post that stands-out immersed in a bad posting history is a good indicator of plagiarism too.

This is obviously not your case, since you have a good history track, but the above just goes to back your quality over quantity point, stressing how important it is to have a balanced history abiding by this factor.

Good tips but it might not work because  a lot of people don't want to give away merits for free since it's a working business that generates profit for them.

This is good general guidance.  I don't think length should be considered.  If it is, then shorter is usually sweeter.

Hello all, just thought i'd share this with you to prove a point that it is absolutely possible to "rank up" quickly on Bitcointalk.

Let me just say that i am not posting this to boast or brag (totally not what i'm about), its simply intended as a guide/advice to show that it is actually pretty easy to rank up if you're willing to work at it.

I joined here in mid-May, wasn't active for the first 2 weeks while i browsed the site offline, and i haven't been online much at all over the past 2-3 weeks as i have had lots going on in 'real life' and vacations etc, so effectively i have been here less than 2 months!

Just to let you know, i don't know ANYBODY in real life from this site, i don't get any preferential treatment and there's no bias toward me, you or the vast majority of people on here. So please don't think that its impossible or too hard to rank up- it's really not. See below.

  • Post quality: Super simple tip. I don't profess to be an expert writer, infact, i've been called out on here before a few times for making my posts too long (i obviously disagree  Wink). What i do know is effort is rewarded. If you are willing to post something helpful, something useful, something that another user on here can look at and take something constructive from, then that is what i consider to be a good post. It dosen't have to be an essay or perfect grammatically correct English- it just needs to be useful/helpful!
  • Study other people: Look at what other people are posting. This is so easy, have a quick look at higher ranked members post history. I'm not saying copy from them- Definitely not, but look at what they are posting and understand why they are a respected member. Its really no coincidence. They are posting high quality, relevant content that people find useful.
  • Shitposting: Pardon my language  Cheesy, it has to be said though! If you shitpost on here then i can GUARANTEE you will be stuck as a newbie forever. Examples of shitposts? take a look at the Bounty section... Its an embarrassment! If you post "great project" "super project" and all that other crap- you will get what you deserve....NOTHING.
  • Merit begging: Really didnt want to bring this up, but if you beg for Merit then you are done! Easiest way to get Merit? Make something worthy of Meriting! Its nice to know your work is appreciated and that people find what you say worthy of a Merit. Once you get your first/first few, it will spur you on to [continue] make better quality content
  • Quality over Quantity: Guys just use common sense on here. Why bother posting 10-20 crappy posts when you could spend the same amount of time (or less) making decent thought out posts that could potentially be rewarded and recognised by the community? Makes more sense right?  Smiley

I'm no different to any of you. i'm just an ordinary family guy who is sharing his experience as a relatively new member and how i have found my time on here so far. If i can do it then so can you. This really isn't rocket science- it's not even hard work!  Grin. Just change your forum habits and if you are willing to put the time and effort in, you will be a valued member of the community and rank up faster!

If anyone has anything to add then i'd love to hear your thoughts! Cheers.
Thank you sir for your advise, this article guide me as a newbei. But I look forward to have a merit, some say good and quality post have reward. Hope i get a merit someday.
