I believe it is important to have some social chit-chat threads to keep such interactions out of the major threads. The wall thread is one good example, and I started the coffee lounge thread in the Ivory Tower ( which is hardly used ). Perhaps it would be worth having at least one such thread on each of the major boards.

The few times I started a topic to ask a genuine question, I saw plenty of replies, most of them off topic, most of them very dumb (sorry), looks like a lot of morons posters there (sorry again), it's like parrots or bots posting without having a clue.

If I had a ban hammer here I would ban 80% of the posters for flooding, or for just being stupid bots.

Hope something can be done. Thanks for reading anyway!  Kiss

Wait, wait.
So you are saying that you've asked a question but after reading the answers to your question suddenly you knew which of them are incorrect and stupid.
Suddenly you became the expert.

So I guess it was a provocation. From the beginning.

;-)

Better get used to it. Smiley

Also it is not so bad at all to learn how to find a cherry.
You can train how to sort the information thanks to such an answers ;-)

Best wishes.

If anybody wants to have a bit of fun, there is a tool created by the IBM Watson AI lab called GLTR (Giant Language model Test Room) that aims at detecting whether a text is AI generated or human generated. See: http://gltr.io/dist/index.html

It provides some sample texts, but you can provide your own. In brief, it matches each word with a prediction based on the previously written word. The more predictable the words, the more likely the text is AI generated (green and yellow in the tool’s output). Further details here: http://gltr.io/

Bossian, you have few options to make this forum in some way better for you and others, and they are just a few clicks away. As others say try to use Report to moderator button, report spam, low quality posts, scams, referrals links and everything that is not under the rules of the forum. There is also option to ignore any user, so you will never see his messages again - or option to ignore whole board.

I can only say that few years ago this forum was in much worse shape than today, few signature campaigns are run by bots (only counting posts), and they produce huge amount of spam / low quality posts all over the forum.

Trolling post posted by a troll trolling that the forum is being full of trolls.
Finally saying that he was drunk at the time he posted.

He got merit points for that?

Mods?

He got merits from a mod  Cheesy

OK I double checked, it was just 1 merit. No harm really.

All the trolls who are Hero or Legendary members were grandfathered in after the Merit system. There's never been a case of a troll reaching Hero or Legendary afterward.

He'll have to up his game and actually contribute to the community, and god forbid learn something about cryptocurrency if he actually wants to rank up much further.

What I don't understand is how bounties are at all a worthy endeavor, for anybody.

As with other social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.), bounty hunters are just advertising their projects to each other. Nobody else is paying attention. If you're not a member, what are the chances you're going to wade through pages of crap in Altcoin Discussion (and sadly, Bitcoin Discussion to a large degree) in order to find one morsel of semi-useful information?

Oh, you're this guy:

It should always be possible to make exceptions when posters of the highest quality apply. I mean instant upgrade from Newbie to Full member.

Well you should thank me, I mocked one of your sig campaign pleas and it earned you some pity merits in the process. (It actually earned you Member status).
It was all well deserved  Cheesy
Joking aside, thanks bro I was drunk that day I guess. I am not here for sig campaigns, wouldn't mind being accepted into one actually but that's not the initial purpose of my registration on this forum.

I go straight to the point. I can look arrogant but it's my style. if I have something to say, it's better to say it now. I don't beat around the bush as we say

You say avoiding the french section, yet you use it.

You started to talk about the french forum (from nowhere) and said" you're not surprised", yet the guy wasn't talking about the french board

Are you French?

Yes.

Why I am not surprised? I am French too, but I avoid the French section. Guess why?

He never posted in the French section. Keep avoiding the french section we're good without you

Now I can smell a French post just by the negativity into it.

Yep, you hit the nail on the head.  I'm not certain they're morons so much as being lazy and uninterested in what they're posting.  You have to understand that most posts on this forum are made for money earned through bounties, and this attracts a lot of members who don't know a lot of English but who try to post in that language anyway.  I joined the forum in 2015 and I'd noticed exactly what you pointed out even before then.

Avoid sections like Bitcoin/Altcoin Discussion if you're looking for good stuff to read, and Economics and Speculation are pretty close to being unreadable.  Sometimes members post good news articles in Economics, but the replies are usually very bad.

If signature option get off, problem will be solved.
That's true, but it's not a solution Theymos is considering.  It's been proposed by a number of members since I've been around, but it's what brings a lot of traffic to bitcointalk and no doubt drives a not-insignificant amount of the bitcoin and/or altcoin economy.

People taking part in this crap have to post in other sections in order to get their free shit!!  Tongue
Come on mate. I am saying the same, only signature campaign required to post in the other section of the forum. No other campaign requires to post on other section than the bounty board.
If signature option get off, problem will be solved.

Fair enough, I actually meant the airdrops and all that crap. This section should be burnt.  Grin
But airdrops and bounties aren't hampering any discussion on the forum, are they? For both of these, forum has individual board and those craps are posted there. How they are hampering the discussion?
They cause collateral damage. People taking part in this crap have to post in other sections in order to get their free shit!!  Tongue

It depends. Not each of the board is flooding with spam. Altcoin discussion and Bitcoin discussion boards are having the most spam because of the signature spammer.
However, in most of the boards, you can create self moderated thread where you can delete the spam posts and get a good discussion.
I have the beginning of a solution: close the altcoin forum. Delete it from the Internet.
It's your baseless point. Why close? Altcoin board is important part of the forum. The problem is spam, not the board. Better signature campaign manager like DarkStar_ or off signature from the forum.

And what's the source of the spam?

If we test a signature ban for a month... the forum would look a lot better.
But if we delete the Altcoin board... then you'll see everything scatter to the other sections. It's like the case with investor-based games and gambling discussion. The boards house the spam. Roll Eyes
That's what I was talking about as well. Deleting the board will result spam in all over the forum as long as signature campaign is there. Since theymos isn't much interested in off signature, would be better to have a anti spam campaign manager.
