I think we have a movie idea. The phone rings... "bitcoin" is heard in a gasping voice. Panic ensues. You post a message on a forum. Strange people make even stranger comments. Soon everyone from that forum starts making random phone calls just to say "bitcoin." It becomes viral....

Call as many numbers as possible saying,
"They know about Bitcoin, flee immediately!"
Then hang-up.

If we all call enough numbers, it will strike a chord with someone.
It worked for Arthur Conan Doyle.

Today I received a call on it and they mentioned "bitcoins" and then hung up. This is quite bizarre and unusual.
Did they just say "Bitcoins!" then put the phone down or did they at least attempt a conversation??  Grin

They just said "Bitcoins"  Cheesy

Im just glad it wasnt the middle of the night....

The question is should I be concerned about it ? Has anyone else received strange phone calls to numbers that shouldn't receive them ?

Last year for several weeks after the runup there was a string of some very weird contact I had received, including PMs on IRC and a couple on the forum that were definitely trolling.

The one that had me baffled though went back and forth through e-mail about five times before I finally figured out it was not due to either trolling or anger but instead the result of a horrible job done by Google Translate.

As far as methods used though, my contact info is easily googled.

Maltego is one scary bunch of java code. I wonder if Maltego links identities to Bitcoin addresses?

My home phone is a silent number and I dont give it out anywhere online. Today I received a call on it and they mentioned "bitcoins" and then hung up. This is quite bizarre and unusual.

Is your phone number in the whois database for bitcoin.me?

I use my mobile number for that. Not my unlisted home number.
