Also what percentage of people after buying the nano ledger s use it with electrum vs just the ledger wallet in chrome?
Does it really matter? Besides, I doubt anyone... even Ledger... could answer this question.

Could you use both or it has to be with one only?
Yes, you can use both...

Because im thinking maybe i shouldnt use the nano ledger s with electrum as it could get very complicated?  I read threads where ppl said they had issues because in nano ledger s they choose segwit as oppose to legacy but their electrum is 2fa and its not compatible with segwit so there is some issues there?  I do not want any issue like that at all.
Electrum 2FA has nothing to do with Ledger... You cannot use Ledger + Electrum 2FA... When you use Electrum+Ledger together, it creates a "watching only" wallet based on your Ledger's "xpub"... You can only spend from it if your Ledger is plugged in and unlocked.

I suspect the problems you were reading about were related to the fact that they were likely trying get either BCH or Bitcoin Gold or some other Bitcoin fork, but had coins in an Electrum 2FA wallet which makes it more difficult to get the fork coins.

But if you use the nano ledger s with the chrome store app, well you could view the balance anytime when you click on the app and the bitcoin app right?  But someone mentioned the negative thing about the nano ledger s is you cant view your btc balance or something by itself.  Can someone explain what they mean by that?
They mean if you use "Ledger Bitcoin Wallet" chrome app... it doesn't do anything until the Ledger device is connected and unlocked and a "coin" is chosen on the device...

As opposed to Electrum... it creates a "watching-only" wallet, so even if you don't have the device connected, you can still see all your balance, transaction history and addresses:

Note: Electrum now (as of version 3.1.0) has the option to encrypt the file on disk, in which case you need to have the device connected to open the wallet:

I meant when you click on receive on the ledger wallet bitcoin app.  It shows my btc receiving address.  I then copied and pasted it to electrum as im sending btc from electrum to nano ledger s.  I then look at the address on the nano ledger s itself to confirm it matches the address on the ledger wallet bitcoin address/electrum address.  Then when it does, i then right click to confirm.  Then i click send btc from electrum after copying my password into it.  I done this and it worked.  The issue i had was when i looked at the address and they were the same... i just sent the btc from my electrum wallet without right clicking confirm on the nano ledger s.  So at that point, i thought i messed up because i didn't confirm the address with a right click on the nano.  And also because the btc got deducted from my electrum but it didnt show up in my ledger wallet bitcoin until a while later on.   But the btc did show up a bit later.

I assume lot of ppl probably made a mistake like this?  Well for example it doesnt have to be me sending btc from electrum to nano ledger s.  Imagine i give my btc address for someone to send to.  Well i click receive on ledger wallet bitcoin and it shows address.  I then look at the address on the nano ledger s device and its the same address.  I then copy and paste it to the other person to send btc to my btc address.  They send it.  Then i noticed i did not right clicked confirm on the nano ledger s device.  I thought because i did not click confirm, that btc address i give someone else is not my btc address.  But im guessing lot of ppl probably forget to click confirm on their nano ledger s?  Is it even necessary to click confirm?

When you click on 'receive' your devices generates an address.
To confirm the address has been really generated by your device, and there is no hacker targeting your device / replacing the address with one of his, you have to take a look at the screen of the nano s.
You don't even have to click anything on the ledger. You just have to compare the address on your desktop screen with the address on the nano s. If those are equal, everything is fine.
You only have to do this once per generated address. This is just to confirm the address is valid. This has nothing to do with transactions.
If you see the address from your desktop screen on your nano s when generating a new address with click on 'receive', you can be sure that this address really belongs to your nano s.

Everyone will be able to send you coins to this address at any time. Its just a security precaution against man-in-the-middle attacks (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man-in-the-middle_attack)

Oh so you mean only when i send btc to someone else from my nano ledger s... i have to right click confirm on the nano ledger s right?  Such as someone give me their btc address... i copy and paste it in ledger wallet bitcoin.  Then i click send... then i look at the address on the nano ledger s screen and make sure thats the address... then right click it ... then it sends?  Thus if i do not right click it, its not possible to send btc to anyone?

Yes.
The physical verification (nano s screen + clicking button) is mandatory to send coins or sign messages.
Thats the reason a hardware wallet is way more secure than a desktop/mobile/web wallet.

Hey there one other thing i want to ask.  So when i sent btc from electrum to my nano ledger s, it does show it in the ledger wallet bitcoin when i send it.
So that means i do not need to try to send any btc from the nano ledger s to say electrum just to test that it works right?  Thus since i received btc to my nano ledger s without issue, then sending will be zero issues?

I answered some of your questions here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.31996583

Also when nano ledger s does updates like this or if you mess up the update by say unpluggin it when updating or anything, AS LONG AS YOU HAVE THE 24 WORD SEED,  you are fine right?  This freaked me a lot when i saw that mcu message.

Yes, only your 24 word seed is necessary to restore your wallets.

Hey there got an issue.   I had clicked on the receive btc and it displayed the address.  I then copied and pasted it to electrum.  I then clicked sent in electrum but i did not click confirm in my nano ledger s.  I had forgot to do this.  Would there be any issue at all with this?  I know you are suppose to click confirm but i did not click confirm.  I clicked sent btc to the address... then i clicked confirmed.

Could you clarify this a bit?
You generated a receive address and afterwards sent coins from electrum to your nano s?
You only have to confirm outgoing transactions (signing transactions) with the nano s. You never have to confirm incoming transactions.
If you don't confirm an sending tx on your nano s the process will be aborted (no tx happens).

I held the left button while plugging it back in.  Then it seemed up update firmware.

However it shows bitcoin version 1.2.3?  Why is it not 1.4?

However, on my nano ledger after typing in my pin

it shows

settings

I could only click both buttons as left or right does not work

it then shows options of

display
security
device
assistance
quit app

How am i suppose to use the bitcoin wallet now?  When i opened up the ledger wallet bitcoin app, message shows

to begin, connect and unlock your ledger wallet

What am i suppose to press now in my nano ledger?

I updated the firmware.  It then ask me to allow it by clicking on the right button.  Then inputting my pin number.

Then as its processing, i get message

mcu firmware is outdated

this device mcu must be updated using the ledger manager app.  press and hold 5 seconds

i did that then it shows

the button close to the usb when you plug in

update is mandatory.  press buttons to restart

Now it shows

mcu firmware is outdated

Now i have btc stuck there.  I had sent a tiny amount first to test and then a bigger amount.  Now how do i fix this issue?

Hey ninja.  Just to confirm click on that gray trash bin you labeled.  Then what do i do right afterwards?

Do not update firmware right?  Just want to make sure i do this correctly.
Click the trash can icon to uninstall the Bitcoin app and install it again. Just check the link above.

I would update the firmware first. You should always keep it up to date.

It shows the bitcoin version 1.1.18 is what im using.

When you look at the side and click firmware it shows version 1.4.1.

and it mentions the bugs it fixes

So do you want me to click the recycle bin looking thing you mention or just click install for this firmware 1.4.1?

Again earlier i did not download ledger manager.  Only the bitcoin application only.

Hi there sorry about that.

I just downloaded the ledger manager app.  The only program i had before that was the ledger wallet bitcoin app.

I see bitcoin, bitcoin cash, dash and lot of other currencies.  Then there is that white arrow in green circle and next to it looks like a trash can?

All the way in the bottom it shows

New firmware available

A new firmware is available for your device.
It's the gray trash can icon.

how do i reinstall the btc app through ledger manager?  I had installed it from the ledgerwallet website etc.

The program is called ledger wallet bitcoin on the chrome app.

So is there a reason why there is those 2 icons only and not that 3rd icon?
Open the Ledger Manager app and click at the bin icon right next to the Bitcoin app.

If you are having trouble, check this article: https://support.ledgerwallet.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005173209-How-to-use-the-Ledger-Manager

So that means my ledger wallet bitcoin wallet is safe right as long as my 24 word key and pin number is not shown to others?  I want to make sure of this before i transfer the rest of my btc from electrum to the nano ledger s.
Yes. With physical access, anyone that has your PIN can spend your coins.

But if anyone knows your seed, they can restore your wallet anywhere in the world without needing to know your PIN.

So keep both safe.

Hey all just noticed a strange issue.  I was watching a youtube video where it mentions some man in the middle attack etc.  They say when you give your btc address for someone to send you, you cant trust the btc address shown in the bitcoin address.  First off, isn't that the address you are sending btc to from?  For example when i send btc to nano ledger s, that is the address i copy and paste right?  Because i did a few transfers and it does show up in my wallet.

However according to the video, you are suppose to click on a monitor that would actually display the btc address on the nano ledger s.  First off, there isn't that option.  There is only 2 icons to choose from... one is to email and the other is to print etc.  On the video, there is a 3rd icon you could click on etc which according to the person in the video, you could view your btc receiving address on your nano ledger s to confirm.  Is there a reason why this doesn't show up in my nano ledger?
Reinstall the BTC app through Ledger Manager.

The other thing is when i clicked on receive btc. why is my btc receiving address different from the ones i previously sent to?  It still starts off with the number 3 but the rest of the letters/numbers are different.  This doesn't make sense because shouldn't i only have one btc address since i did not generate another btc address in nano ledger s?  I just want to make sure of this as i already transferred some btc to the nano ledger s already.
Nano S is a HD wallet. You will get a new address everytime but all previous ones are still valid. This helps increase your privacy (google "Bitcoin HD wallet"). Electrum does the same.
