Has good news or any news ever had much effect on price? Bad news certainly gets the job done on occasion.

Segwit going live soon is a legit reason for buying coins... as is steam users gearing up.
Either you are talking about a very dumb group or people or I just don't understand the point behind this. Code submitted for merge != Segwit going live. We always knew that Segwit was coming, there was Segnet. Nothing special. It will most likely be activated sometime after the halving. There are still things to do.

I get the whole use the "speculation thread"... didn't think the forum would be that anal about a misplaced thread.
That section exists for a reason; to keep pointless threads such as this one away from this section. It will be moved shortly.
Such a pleasant place to post
To be fair, he's not wrong. A lot of people on this forum care about putting stuff where it should, and we shouldn't put threads in places they aren't supposed to be. This is a place for (hopefully) logical discussion about Bitcoin.

As for segwit, I'm still not sure if I want to agree or disagree with it. But that shouldn't be in this section, as this is speculation.

I'm sure in the next 80 days the price will start to change a lot more than we have seen in the past 325 days.

I think this halving might have some impact on the price

See today's markets there was a good rise then the tail off..

I am hoping the rise is only starting and will continue for another few days to weeks...

I think it can mostly be correlated with Ethereum's bubble appearing no longer sustainable. The big whales have left ETH markets and it's price is going down contrary to bitcoin which keeps receiving more attention as of recently.
Even if shapeshift has started to sell it on their site that will not save it, so the whales are right on this. They stuck with it even after their loss to hack attack.

My guess is that this price increase has more to do with the block halving as in people buying themselves some coins before it's too late. Other than that I can't think of something else.
This is what most of the normal bitcoiners (none whales or bears) like us are hoping for.
Now is the time to buy even if you don't have enough to spend on it.

1) Segwit is not live.
2) Stop making threads in the wrong section.

Steam BTC acceptance
I was not even aware of this. After doing some research, it also seems like Steam does not currently accept Bitcoin. They stated that they will do so in the future.

For sure the halving is playing a role... if you don't mind contributing in this rogue thread what are your thoughts on the reasons for the increase?

Steam acceptance is going to happen soon, also the ETH price is going down so the traders are moving back to bitcoin, the same with the LISK.

Trying to put a finger on the nice increase recently...
Some possibilities:
Segwit going live
Open Bizzaar up and running
Steam BTC acceptance

Other thoughts?
