Block Erupters were great when it first came out. It was small, very energy efficient and you could plug it into notebooks and start mining. Those days were not that long ago, only about 18 months. Now it is virtually impossible to mine at home.

GPU mining was hard work.

Finding a computer carcass with a limping OS.
Slapping a $150 power supply in it and a $400 video card.
Configuring vnc, so when it inevitably stopped mining you could quickly connect to it and give it a kind slap across the desktop.

And then you kids come on my lawn and plug in your fancy USB, twang-danglers.
Bah.
I hope you burn yerselfs.

Ah, the days of the block erupter, were you didn't have to worry about your electric bill and you could just simply mine. Sad

Yeah those were some good old days. Very little heat, little electricity bill and profits coming in

Hmm, I don't remember any profit coming in off of Block Erupters.  Unless your really Friedcat.  Smiley

Maybe I'll crack a block solo mining with mine. Then they will have paid off.

Nah there is no end of evolution. People will always find new ways.
Next step could be quantum processors. Many people expect it to be the next big step in computering (maybe in a few decades/centuries Bitcoin would have to be reinvented because this technology has too much computing power  Cheesy )

Wrong  all species do not evolve some die off and become extinct.
There is not much money  in this game and if someone develops  a 'q' cpu they only need a few to mine with.
They will take a lesson from asic builders and just mine baby.
I was rather talking about security/crypto issues. I saw somewhere that quantum processors could maybe in a few wears be a treath to some of Bitcoin mechanisms.

I remember the days... happy times Smiley.

That anker metal hub was a beast.  Sold those aswell when I switched to blades.  I wish I would have kept one for fun at this point but I sold them all.   I still can not explain why people paid more for certain colors.  Only miner i can think of profit on sell depended on color to a point lol.

Or the days before that, when a single GPU could easily make 0.01 BTC per day. That was kind of nice.
Look what money hungry people have done to us today. And people say bitcoin is setting us free from financial monarchy. It's shit to tell the truth

So I was at my bank today and I....wait no I wasn't - they decided they needed a holiday.  Good thing the bitcoin network is going 24/7/365.  Live in the past if you will.

No, it's impossible to make a *profit* on mining. It's a perfect marketplace and while it's possible to make some money in the short term, long term profits are impossible.

My BE are used as little heat generators. Eventually they will be scrap or something.

As for the past, back then bitcoins were worthless, if you want to relive that, mine some silly altcoin or doge or something on that order. :-)
