Researchers Find Hundreds of Ethereum Wallets at Risk Due to Weak Key Pairs
On April 23, the security consulting firm Independent Security Evaluators ISE published a document concerning a number of unsound public and private key pairs tied to the Ethereum blockchain. The…...

I don't think this news is actually new.. The greatest threat to me still remain the numerous wallets launching on a daily basis with the mindset of cashing out with people's funds... I think one needs to be extra careful when soring ethereum at this point..

Who are the researches , it will be good to include a link to get the real work evidence that they conducted this research. So many people just coming up with different stories . If there anything true about this , I believe The ETH developers will do justice on it.

When I read such news, I feel very unsafe about my etherium based tokens or even other cryptocurrencies.

[snip]

Do not worry much, do not waste your nerves Smiley
Yes, the hardware wallet is very good. But it is needed for the case when you have significant amounts in cryptocurrency.
You can go the other way: make 5-10 wallets, and distribute your tokens to them evenly. The likelihood that hackers will pick up private keys to all wallets at once is extremely small.

How secure these wallets? Rather, what will happen if they shut down without informing?
All these questions come into my mind. It is never safe to store your cryptocurrencies on exchanges. And now a days same situation with wallets.
Only best possible way or solution I see at the moment to store cryptocurrencies is to use hardware wallet.
The challenge is that it's not cheap and also not support all the altcoins

We can read the news on browser without need to download a app, i see this news and someone can find some private keys, but as i already use a hardware wallet for Ethereum i think i'm safe and no one can steal my coins.

I would say I have actually been lucky or better still very careful that my wallet have never been compromised, I have seen a few number of persons fall victim and the reason being that they must have given out their private keys to a cloned  site or clicked a phising site that hacked into their system.
I do not see a serious danger to the use of Ethereum wallets in the event that users themselves create private keys that are subsequently cracked. Either wallet users do not adhere to other security measures. In my opinion, the MyEtherWallet wallet is one of the most reliable wallets.
You are right, when people hear that account has been hacked, the first thing that goes to their mind is about a loosed security by the wallet developers, which should absolutely not be true, ethereum has been in this business for so long, they already knows how hackers operate and has blocked every means of hackers having access directly to their own system.

So most of these hacked account is surely the fault of the wallet holder for not making use of a very strong security tools on his account, no strong password key, no 2FA Authenticated and so on, some even use very easy password like their date of birth, so it’s better we used a very strong password if we want a safe wallet.

Few days ago i was also reading that some hacker has been succesfully accessing wallets and stealing eth just by guessing the private keys, i think it is better to use other forms of keys like json file as simple text has been shown to be vulnerable now.

Why we should download an app just to read that news while we can just search the same headline to google just like what the recommended article show.

I think it is somehow, clickbait to consider? Knowing the fact that there are already some websites or even a social media platform groups that keep us stay updated on the latest market trend and news. Maybe, for some sort of reason, if you think that the app is good, just inform us whether we might try it sometimes.

If you created a random private key then it is impossible to hack but when you use online source to create that private keys then you may be in danger but those published keys are very less when compared tp the all availability of wallets. If your wallet have any other security feature other than private key don't forget to use it as well.

OMG, this is very strange and alarming, I knew that something will definitely go wrong in the ethereum Blockchain, and getting to the stage that even the private keys of users ain't save anymore, then this should be something we have to look into as a community so as soon as possible because we don't need anyone losing their funds to scammers because the Blockchain is easy to penetrate, the co-founder of ethereum said they are working on something, I think they need to speed up on which they are working on, it is needed so much in this time.

I do see those smart contract based coins like EOS and Tron also not releasing native-high secured- easy UI wallets. Some of them are recommending adopters to use third party wallets. I guess they must work on providing native (first party) software wallets like bitcoin-core so that, 99% of risks will be eliminated.

What? Have you even read the original article? Anyone can turn a private key they've created themselves into a wallet, this isn't some vulnerability with Ethereum.
It's the same thing as what happened to Brainwallets, people using unsecure methods themselves to create their private keys.

They're not actually creating random private keys.

I wonder how someone will just form private keys and will work out of the box, it is impossible and we wallet user's are the only ones responsible for our private keys, I think it's best to make use of hardware wallets for ETH backup

A quite clickbait to consider, I think when we are just reading a news, we can just see the website and that's it. Another thing here is that, I think the security of ethereum blockchain wallet is strong enough such as what My Ether Wallet has, and there's no fear that we need to consider about that.

Reading such news, I understand that it is best to store everything on paper wallets. So as able to crack virtually impossible. Solutions from other developers can be used at your own risk.

seems another bad news on ethereum show up,
and i think the best way to keep your ethereum and ethereum based tokens safe is by using a hardware wallet

Not really. Suppose, you choose weak password for some website and someone guesses your password, does that mean it was fault of website? Mistake was yours that you choose weak password.
the problem is when there was a possibility to create a random combination of ethereum privatekey and some times your combination is matched with the real private key and there was a lot of possibilities to open others private key through this process. It just like when you are a wanna opening zip file that you don't know the password.

Much better to keep there, and you have choice between ledger nano s and trezor. Desktop wallets are good too as long as you have the seeds.
