It's more like the whole packaging than just the stamp. Or rather, the ripple system is the packaging, and XRP are the stamps.

And the worst thing is that such "stamp" price is subject to speculation. Imagine that today you send a letter which costs you a quarter, but a month later you have to pay $10 because price is driven up by crazy traders.

Quote
From the 100 billion of total XRP, 20 billion went to the founders and 30 billion to OpenCoin to fund development. The 50 billion remaining are supposed to be given away to promote Ripple.

AFAIK, now it's trading about $0.01 per 1 XRP. So, In posession of "founders" there are $200M worth of XRPs, and $500M to be given away to people who will probably start speculating it Smiley

P.S. I like the idea of ripple as a trading system, but XRP is really shitty thing.

The problem won't be exchange rate............... As I said, you dont need much XRP to use it for a lifetime. Probably 200 XRP is more than enough!!

XRP is 100% pre-mined and all is under control of OpenCoin. Isn't it ?

...and they're selling the "stamps" that allow people to send "packages" through their system.

I appreciate you trying to be objective about Ripple...
But the "stamps" metaphor was retarded and is out-dated by at least 6 months.

In addition to being a transmission network...  Ripple is an exchange like the NYSE.

But while the NYSE exchanges stocks via USD...
This is difficult on Ripple because Ripple supports fiat, crypto, commodities, custom securities, anything...
So Rippple needs an internal currency to facilitate exotic exchanges...
Like to exchange Philipinnes Pesos for AK47 rounds via XRP...
Or to exchange Chinese SAM missiles for Viagra via XRP...
XRP is not fucking "stamps", baby.

stamp methaphor is good; It's just that it's not only stamp. The problem will be exchange rate. FUC YOU!m

XRP is a currency built into Ripple. You only need max 500 XRP for your lifetime needs of using Ripple. It is like stamps, right?
If you exchange A for B and it would need to be done A->XRP->B, do you think you need XRP? Yes, you need XRP. About 10 drops, yeah.

If the Ant derivative is carried out successfully , it will likely replace ripple , as it is  simple to understand , and open source.

Barwizi has run into allocation problems . But these can be overcome .

These problem relate to a pre conceived idea about its function or the execution of the instrument.

XRP is 100% pre-mined and all is under control of OpenCoin. Isn't it ?

People like to say this.  But really mining is not part of ripple. XRP are not meant to be coins, they are wrappers or, as mah87 so nicely put it, they are like stamps.

So, in effect this is like complaining that the post office pre-mined all the stamps.

XRP are tools for tracing transactions in a block-chain like ledger. They own the ledger, they're going to support the server infrastructure to make it available, and they're selling the "stamps" that allow people to send "packages" through their system.

What that has become twisted into by the crazies around here, well that's something else.
If XRP isn't a decentralized cryptocurrency, why is it pushed around here so much?

The ledger system is based on crypto-currency, and they pushed it hard to bitcoiners as early adopters because it is the best thing going right now to merge the crypto markets with the fiat markets...

I suspect that most of the people who are SOOOO against it haven't spent 5 minutes trying to understand it, they're just trying to hop on the "cool" train and parrot a bunch of misinformation (FUD) spread around by people who want to discourage and confuse potential early adopters.

Ripple platform is probably not a bad idea, but their pre-mined XRP looks like a hoax.
Yes, It's possible to have some profit speculating XRP today, but only idiots would treat it as investment.

If you talk about mining with xrp you just didn't understand what ripple is

Tongue I'm not even mad hehe. Anyway this is a kind of currency, just like stamps are.

WTF now you're kind and reasonable (and correct)Huh?

nice to meet you!

It's fungible we see people can put value and trade it.  But like a stamp it will have more value in what you can do with it than in it's own price.  Wow that is one of the best explanations I've seen.

Thanks for that  Smiley
