Even with the risk of hacking, and the like I still think the best place to keep bitcoins is your own personal computer or a paper wallet made from it "and re-accessed when needed through your PC",
Keeping your money with other people has repeatedly been proven a very bad idea, from mtgox to bitfinex, always keep them with you IMO and the risk of "hacking" would be lower, with just a good AV and care when browsing.

For me, it is safe in standalone wallet where you can save your private keys. There is no safe  place to store it digitally but it depends on how to handle your important data. You can print and store your private keys in your safety deposit box if you have.

To be honest bitcoin wallets are very secured. Alway have two step step verification turned on for your Cold storage. Write down the paper keys or print it and keep it safe. If you have two steps enabled no one can really hack into your wallet that easily. Even I was worried about the storage of bitcoin but I completed read the two step verification and its importance in your long term use. If your wallet doesn't support the two step verification I would really suggest you to change the wallet if you planning to put in large money in there. Do not put your money on exchanges they can turn into scam at any time if they loose their assets, you will loose too.

I think that poeple are overreacting when it comes to online wallets, i mean what is the safest using an offline wallet and storing your coins on desktop where you are vaurnable for hacks and your pc could stop working and you can't do a thing about it, or store them on online wallets where they are stored on servers with complete secuirrity.

You need to download a good wallet and keep your private keys safe offline (written in paper for example), take care about your PC or phone and clean ithem from viruses and malwares, use a strong password to access your wallet. This is basically the most needed steps

What is the safest way to keep bitcoins.
Taken dangers like hacking, losing in to account!
The offline wallet is also known as 'hardware wallet' such as ledger or trezor wallet
The hardware wallet is known as the best and most secure bitcoin and altcoins wallet cause they offline and the private key is saved within the wallet.
Offline wallet is not always known as ledger or trezor wallet because there is a type of offline wallet which doesn't cost too much and you can have that instantly from your home and that is the paper wallet and that is what you need in order keep your coins in a very safest way but also the cheapest way because you just need to print it as a high quality and laminate it and then send your coins there.

i think every wallet we know its safe to keep bitcoin and its depend for us how we keep and save that wallet. as long as only us that will know the place and what is the private key, then the wallet its still safe and no one can used the wallet. i am prefer with offline wallet and android phone wallet but for android phone wallet, we need to hide the wallet from the other people that maybe will hack our wallet.

I came to the conclusion its the best for me to devide it! Small amount on some exchanges! Bigger ammounts on online wallets or pc wallets with 2fa! And a big ammount in cold storage! Because what if you are so stupid to loose or break your cold storage.
Also devide some under your close family like brothers and sisters or if you have high tech parrents!
Oh yeah and lets also be honoust! Lets keep some cash on the bank or in real estate!

Like this you won't regret to much in the future!

It depends on how you want to use your coins. If you bought it as an investment to hoard "long-term" I would go for cold storage. {paper wallets}

,but if you want to regularly use these coins... I would suggest that you buy a hardware wallet. {Trezor} I would avoid the online wallets and

services where you do not have the ownership of the private key. {also exchanges used as a wallet}

Cold storage is probably the safest way. I suggest that you use a hardware wallet. You can buy them in the marketplace. Examples of some are Trezor or the Ledger nano. I myself own the Ledger nano. I would definitely recommend it to you. It is perhaps, the safest method... if you are careful when handling it. If you lose the hardware wallet or break it, then... your Bitcoin is most likely lost.

only a properly created cold storage or a trusted hardware wallet.
you can search for some hardware wallets if you are not tech savvy or don't want to bother learning how tos and if you are willing to pay. things such as Trezor or Ledger nano would work.

or you can learn more about cold storage and do it yourself easily. like creating a paper wallet with tools such as https://github.com/pointbiz/bitaddress.org or make a Trezor like cold storage on your USB disk yourself

Hardware wallet would be the safest way to keep bitcoin. If you don't have a lot of coins then you don't need to spend money to buy hardware wallet. You can use online free wallets such Blockchain.io and Coinbase.

To keep your money from stealing always keep in touch on the recent activity of your every transactions including logging in and withdrawal. Before making and depositing on new wallet account please make sure to do some research on it, better to see the feedback's of the user. Also, keep your private information and don't give your trust in someone's who are not familiar.

Cold storage and hardware wallets have always been the best and safest ways to store bitcoins. Although if you end up using an online wallet always keep and write your passwords and login details down in a place only you can get to it. Also secure your passkeys by writing them down and keeping it in a safe place. You can always enable two factor verifications so it always requires your phone to log in.
