David Chaum has since been seen around Berkeley, walking with his soul under his arm16.  He was far ahead of his time. Too far.

Can you guess which person above used the pseudonym Frans Effendi?

Sure, Americans have a different spelling of English to most of us but does this guy you claim to be the one actually consistently use American spelling?

If he was as smart as he appears to be, it isn't hard to use British English ...

David Chaum is American, which wouldn't explain Satoshi's use of British spellings. For example, glancing over his last posts in the forums I've found one (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.28715) where he writes "modernised" and another one (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.22952) where he uses "formalised". It'd be very unusual for an American to use these "-ise" spellings that appear in Satoshi's writings. Add to that the fact that he inserted a quote about British bank bailouts from The Times in the genesis block, and it looks like Satoshi is probably British or must have had a closer connection with the UK than with America.

Close but not quite.

Well, The Times is possibly the most well known British newspaper outside of the UK, possibly because it's also one of the longest established titles globally. These things don't prove much, british spelling is not hard to enforce, just change the country setting in your OS. Even if he had exhibited some less superficial knowledge of Britain or use of British spellings or expressions, it's still not much to go on. It'd be fairly hard to guess someone's nationality purely on prose and content alone, try it with a someone else on the forum.

That would be an honour and a privilege, but no - DC is a master of blind signatures (which he invented) and used the RSA algorithm for everything (that I know of) (AND invented Tor!) and BTC uses Elliptic Curve and has no blind signatures (and needs them.....)

Not him. I wish....

Nope.  Easier to see than that.
What you mean Phinnaeus is satoshi  Wink

Precisely.  He got a lobotomy and became an over-posting cyberstalker instead of contributing to development to throw everyone off the scent.

That description also fits you very well...

The Wikipedia page reference this book, a favorite author of mine: http://www.amazon.com/Presenting-Digital-Cash-Seth-Godin/dp/1575210622

Quote
Amazon.com Review

As a rule, money is exciting to get but mighty dry to read about. Presenting Digital Cash breaks the rule--the second half of it anyway. Seth Godin grabs you with wit, stimulates you with new possibilities, and opens your eyes to trends that could change our relationship with money the way cash changed barter and was itself changed by checks and credit cards. Will digital cash bring greater freedom from theft? A true world economy? An end to counterfeiting or a way for hackers to create financial chaos? Godin examines today's situation and what it may bode for tomorrow.

Chaum had also worked for intelligence agencies, and that didn't fortify his faith in the good intentions of humankind. His vision of the privacy of the individual was almost an obsession.  In 1996 he said, in the relations magazine of Honeywell-Bull: "The difference between a bad electronic cash system and well-developed digital cash will determine whether we will have a dictatorship or a real democracy."

Did you see https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/my-guess-at-satoshi-robert-a-hettinga-49751 ?

I didn't, until now.  I wonder if that's where the "The Good Wife" writers got the idea for the plot of their Bitcoin episode.
