Charity is a wonderful application for bitcoin. It would be especially good if a charity and recipients had customized addresses so we could see that the funds actually go to the place they are supposed to.
Vanity addresses? Definitely possible for them if they wanna generate something simple.

Well I think readers here should just take this as what it is: A local charity shop posts a bitcoin address in their window - they are not asking *you* to donate, but they offer their visitors an option.

I tend to agree. I see this as a fine example and an inspiring development.  People helping people.  Smiley

Would be cool if more charity shops do this. It'll really get the older generation talking about it.

What store is that? You don't seem to say.
I'm also curious why nobody has given ( the OP especially ) the name of the shop.

Maybe it's a sexshop and that's why he's avoided the question. It does say no soliciting lol.
A charity sexshop with a teddy bear outside?

Not this one, you idiot. Do you even read posts before you comment on them?
I read them but I didn't notice the link haha, that's my bad.

The good thing about charities and charity shops is that I think bitcoin enthusiasts like to spread awareness and adoption this way by donating so it's win win giving/spending money to charity really.

It's just privacy reasons. Unless like a lender wants info for loans I would give it to them, then they would know where the business is at. Other wise it would give away the name of my home town publicly. Prob same for OP.

Do they accept payment in Bitcoin for items or is it just a donation address? Cool to see either way.

It wouldn't be very smart to just send money to the address on the window. If you really about to donate you should meet the owner of the shop so he can prove that it's really donation to his shop. If you're going to donate like only $2 in bitcoins and you just send those few bitcents then you can do it blindly without knowing where those bitcoins will really go  Grin

i have the most skeptical mind of all. i have ripped apart many scammers and i will keep doing so.

but this sign is genuine. its not a sign put up for 20 seconds just for the sake of taking a picture, as i have also seen this sign before.

with that said, keep this in mind.

the volunteers/manager put this up, but who is to say that those working inside give 100% to the actual cause and its not used purely to pay the manager a wage/give them a bonus.
Ah ok, that's reassuring. Where is this shop located? Smiley

In my opinion, that's simply great. Donating to charities is one of the things where bitcoins works pretty well. Of course you need to check wether they actually do what they claim to do and what you want to support, and whether your donations are being spent responsibly. But that's not different from fiat money donations.
