I received that same phishing email from Coinbase last week.  The real Coinbase already sent an email to all their Coinbase users about that scam attempt:

Hi there,

Earlier today, a spam email claiming to be from Coinbase was sent to some of our customers, announcing a "Coinbase Invest Fund".

If you received this email, please disregard it. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Note: This email in no way affects the safety of your Coinbase account, and no customer data was compromised.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact [email protected].

Kind Regards,
Coinbase Security

hmm, didnt get the email and I dont see it mentioned in their blog or support section of website?  Do they have an official forum account here that posts updates?

Their official twitter acknowledged the phishing attempt:

https://twitter.com/coinbase/status/586164781029040128

Chances are if it's not of their official blog, https://blog.coinbase.com/, then it's fake.

I also did not receive clarification email from coinbase. That's because I don't have a coinbase account?  Tongue

It is ironic that even if I don't have coinbase account,  I am getting coinbase phishing emails.

What concerns me is that they managed to get hold of legitimate email service of coinbase. Tomorrow someone can receive a password reset email from a legitimate coinbase address which can steal the real password via phishing.

Dude that's lame, you really got me excited for a second there  Sad I haven't logged into my Coinbase account in a while and was thinking I might have missed this announcement ( although I suppose I would've received an email) I just checked, there is nothing mentioned on the site or Coinbase Blog. I sure would've been interested in that one  Cheesy

I find it really funny that Op posted this here and was not sure whether it is real or not. But after first fast glance at this message from "coinbase" I can tell that these conditions are so surrealy insane that either coinbase went rogue and are trying to scam everyone or this is some sort of fake coinbase/scam attempt. Knowing that it is not from coinbase.com is assuring. I just hope there won't be many idiots who will fell for it.
I'm quite surprised but if you check the attackers address then you notice NOBODY fell for it and nobody deposited!
I'm quite proud about us bitcoiners! Wink

The real coinbase is a pillar of the BTC community and would never be pat of a scam like this WTF
Never say never. From what I could see, after observing bitcoin related companies for more than 2 years (since 2013). I am sure you will agree that you can't trust anyone. Even the biggest bitcoin exchanges can fail, and even reputable companies like GAW miners can be lead astray. Coinbase is a pillar of bitcoin for now, and I would like to keep it that way, but who knows? Even they may fail someday.

Sadly that is true. Coinbase seems to be legit though and becoming more mainstream with their "wall street" backers, but yes I am still Very very careful where I store btc and for how long.

"pillar of the community"? Are you sure about that? Coinbase is tracking your bitcoins and will ban you if you spend them on something that they don't approve of.

Really? How many people have experienced this? Do they just warn you or what?

Never trust a random email. Something of this nature would be advertised on the main site and probably announced in their blog. Its a scam.

Who is missing  Grin? I think the OP understood that it was a phishing email and obviously a scam. I think it is not the case to continue spam here (only to try yours post count isn't it?).

Seems very suspicious. I'm pretty sure this is scam.

but if its really coinbase i dont think they would post it just to scam some people

I'm sure it wouldnt be coinbase, because they would likely post this somewhere, where it would be visible to everyone.

101 to scams and specially random emails that come out of nowhere, supposedly from a trusted source: If it sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true, therefore it's false.
