Dude I feel so bad for you. My family lost over 20 Bitcoins from scams and it sucks to think about how much money that is. What I recommend is if you have more money wait until this bubble we are in pops and then go all-in and buy more than you had before so that you will not look back in regret about this for the rest of your life. All the best to you, man.

So I fucked up big time. I bought 16 bitcoins back in 2011 and have had them stored all these years. When the bch split happened I got online and was searching for how to claim them, I followed a tutorial video, it has since been removed, and like a complete idiot I gave my recovery phrase to the website blockchain-bitcoininvestment.info. Believe me I now know how stupid that was. They drained me immediately. All my funds were sent to this address 1Be7Ej9WA8ioDuqrRKCaGcCBM6Uu3Mci53. I am aware that there really isnt anything that can be done. I just hope others dont make the same mistake I did, It seriously sucks. Be careful out there one fucking mistake can have some really shitty results
Thats very sad to hear. You have saved it carefully for almost six years and have lost to some one when bitcoin's price is at ATH.For what reason you gave your recovery phrase?I could remember a person who had lost almost 40 BTC last week by downloading a wallet from wrong website Electrum cash.org instead of downloading from official electrum website.Scams are increasing nowadays very high with very high increase in bitcoin's price. So bitcoin community must be aware of these scams and must save their hard earned money safely.

When you fuck up this bad you just have to suck it up and take it like a man. The scammers are pieces of shit for stealing them but I blame myself for giving them away. The bitcoins are gone if there was anything I could do about that I would but there may still be something I can do about the 8,000 in bch that's out there. It's a lot of money but the sky is still blue, the grass is still green and the beer is still cold
Export your private keys (or seed/backup phrase) into an "Electron Cash" wallet or a full node which supports Bitcoin Cash such as Bitcoin ABC.  You can check that you have the correct links from the official Bitcoin Cash page, bitcoincash.org.

You should then be able to send to an exchange such as bittrex.com from that wallet.

NOTE: please check exactly what I am saying by reading the Electrum guide to claiming and theymos' guide.

It is recommended that you use a separate computer for Electron Cash because the binaries are signed by anonymous developers.

If your backup phrase/seed is from a TREZOR or Ledger hardware wallet, you should be able to spend directly from your wallet.

Sorry for your loss.

Dear OP, which wallet were you using? I am just wondering, have you tried retrieving your Bitcoin Cash? Please check, hopefully the scammer didnt take it despite him/her having your private keys. Then atleast you can cashout that. I know it wont bring your bitcoins back, I am just hoping you atleast get some little money back.

Hopefully this serves as a lesson to all of us. There are many ways one could have secured his bitcoin before the split, like reading the guidelines in here, but not from some youtube videos from unreliable sources. But since it’s already happened and nothing you can do to get your coins back, the best thing to do right now is move on and let this serve as a bitter pill to swallow and a reminder on how to to do things in a secured way.

Sorry for your lost. I feel bad about what happened. I hope those scammers would get what they deserve, sooner or later. All they do is steal from other people who worked hard to earn those amounts of money. Leave the job to karma, dude

The best bet you can do is go after the domain provider and check the whois of the site you have just laid your money to. It might not be the brightest idea at all but it's a start at least. Contact their provider and inform them that  you lost 50 grand from the said website that is associated with them. If they don't agree, threaten them to press legal charges as it was clearly some form of money laundering done on their service.

Good luck on your journey. Not much you can do about recovering it via BCH.

I just found a thread on the Beginner's & Help Forum that's stating "If you export your private keys you can access your Bitcoin Cash". And there are responses that claim interest and thanks for the info....scam city!

Watch out folks. There's a lot of bad stuff going on!

I would just like to say, good job. That was the best thing you ever did. What I always say whenever I am on the internet is

"Trust nobody!"

There are 4 more scammers after every legit person. That's for sure. Scammers are lazy as mofos that just try to steal from people.
And because there are more lazy people compared to those that work hard, we see more scammers.

Check https://blockchair.com/bitcoin-cash/blocks and http://blockdozer.com/insight/ and see if they still have any of your BCash.

IF they do then send it somewhere else immediately.

Who knows... maybe Bcash will take over Bitcoin and you might get your money back... don't count on it though.

Ridiculously made a fool of everyone and that's insane.
I mean who, even in the name of Jesus Christ, would give them their recovery phrase or anything? Didn't you go through some research about BCH before taking such a dangerous step which proved to be the most stupid mistake that you have had ever committed?
16 coins? And you are not even that regretful? You lost 53k USD and that's something kinda serious and we should ask devs to create something like a reversal strategy or something which only they could run, at least to save everyone from such happenings as such way could also help out with hacks as well as thefts. As well, I am amazed to see such a big amount of 66 BTC, those guys must be partying hard atm.

Anyone know if the scammers haven't claimed my bit coin cash is there anyway that I can still claim them? I tried coinomi wallet sweep all it came back with was that there weren't any funds in the account. Will I have any better luck using a full node like bitcoin abc?  The funds were there at the time of the split and I would assume that is what matters not wether they are currently there? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Man, you lost 16 BTC and you are still caring about your BCH? Insane, dude.

It sucks, but all we can do is move forward.

Another person who got been victimized again those scammers out there. Sorry for your loss and 16 btc isnt really a joke amount already and i do feel what you feel bro. If you do convert it on the current price its already a lot and losing them in an instant we can really call ourselves stupid. This is why we should really easily entrust our keys on anyone and regarding with the guide there are lots of ways on how to claim bch just on the forum itself theres alreayd a guide which been provided by theymos.

I feel your pain. I lost some bitcoins when cryptsy folded and stole everyone's coins. I didn't lose as much as you did, but I did lose a significant amount. Unfortunately in the world of cryptocurrencies, it's like the Wild West. There's no way to get it back once someone takes it.
The pain of losing the coins or money can be felt by only the ones who has ever gone through this sad experience of losing money. It is very painful and i wish no one should ever get this pain. Sorry for the OP to lose such a big amount and you can see if he has not lost 16 Bitcoins, he would have be millionaire in near future taking into account the rate of price increase of bitcoin

If these hackers are claiming to offer a BTC/Bcash split and got are given the private key/seed. Why are they only stealing BTC and not the Bcash ?

According to the BCash block explorer they didn't transfer any of the BCash only the BTC?

This doesn't add up.

Hmmm....  that looks interesting.
Probably they also don't trust BitCH coin's replay protection and they want to empty the BTC from every address first, before going after BitCH?

Not sure though.
Up to some extent, I do agree with you. The security provided by Bitcoin is far better than that of any other digital currency. The high level standard security of Bitcoins is posing a challenge to hackers. Maybe this is the reason they are very much interested in removing Bitcoins from the wallets as compared to any other digital currency. As far as Bitcoin cash is concerned, they are trash in front of bitcoin. So it is quite useless to hack Bitcoin cash.
