I thought this was like the part where famous people are offered millions to promote a fake token, which makes them seem legitimate at first, but then they rug-pull and fake out that their account was "hacked."

There is a growing epidemic of meme coins, especially the $LIBRA one, on which many people have lost money. It's worth it for the scammers, but we hope that it will not continue and will be regulated somehow. A lot of people are getting burned because of it.

Unaware people could get scammed because of X, as well.

Thankfully, the account only has 51k followers, if it had millions, the chances of scooping up a lot of money from this scam would be much higher.
How come this scammer created account on x and got this total number of followers within some short period of time, I will only think the scammer edited an account but not create, because I see no reasons why newly created account will have such amount of followers. Of course, it doesn't matter the amount of followers, a victim can fall for this kind of scam and pay huge amount of money, there must always be a victim of scam no matter page setup, if the scammer is really expert, then scamming is successful.

That scammer is something else, using the name of a head of state and even a "Bermuda National Coin," which we could think like an official coin of a country. But honestly, why do so many people still fall for these kinds of scams when we all know this has happened before; aren't people aware of it?

Thankfully, the account only has 51k followers, if it had millions, the chances of scooping up a lot of money from this scam would be much higher. It also didn't say how much was lost, but in most scam attempts, it's almost impossible for foolish investors not to get some money out of it.

On the other side I think the scammer is someone who has a good information about the head of state that's why he could come up with the idea of creating fake accounts just to lure people as he launches the coin to scam them. Having only 51k followers on his x account has nothing to do with the fact that a lot of people would have been scammed if they had invested a lot of money this is because most investors would have contacted other people who are not aware of the token to take the opportunity to invest so they they would make money together if they have a huge return. People should ask questions and don't rush into investing in any project because of the name of the people who they see, different scams has happened and a lot of celebrities had been used to promote scam projects you just have to research and refused to follow all the information you come across on social media if you want to be free from scammers. After this discovery another scammer is somewhere inventing another strategy to present to people that will interest them to invest money and know that scam coins is one of the fastest ways to milk people they will never stop until people are ready to research before they invest in any token.

There's no method of scamming we haven't seen on X and it makes me begin to think sometimes that what will be the fate of Elon Musk when all these scammers continues to impersonate and hack people's account and defraud them of their money through X. Imagine creating an account and it is being verified as an account that belongs to a government official, isn't it a very easy way to scam people because they will believe every bit of information that comes from that particular account.

It is very devastating with what how the X platform has become a tool to where scammers has felt welcomed in scamming people through it.
I have been thinking if can't there be a means to fight this corruption activities going on therein the X platform with the high numbers of scammed victims testifying how they got scammed with some fake profiles seemed to be official handles.
I don't know, maybe X should start verifying everyone's account. Failure to take drastic measures to this mayhems is sure to bring the platforms CEO improper negative pointing fingers with the lack of sanity in the social network.

I used to think that it was telegram that was the hub or go-to for scammers but it's looking like X is taking the front seat.
I read more on the story and I think the scammer would have been able to get away with his actions had he not been caught because David Burt has beforehand being known to champion the island as the best place to carry out cryptocurrency businesses so if he (Burt) decides to introduce a token, it would not be given too much thought so this was the angle the scammer impersonating David had to use.
For a scammer to easily get hold of such an important figure's account only means that there's not much control and security put in place. As a result of the scammer's tricky, over $1.2m was lost before they could contain the situation.

Any platform should do since scammers are there if they know there are lots of potential victim to take. So we should not think about scammers are rampant only on telegram since they are using multiple platforms to increase their chance to stole money from people online.

What people need to have is proper education on the schemes and other methods used by scammers to fool people so that there would be no scamming situation would happen to them also to make sure that they are not easy target by those crazy criminals online.

This is a cheap way to scam people and it's funny how people fall for this type of scams this days. Practically anyone that has influence or any project always get their accounts cloned and impersonated, this is a situation we have come to realise that won't go anywhere.
But this is why you should not just fall for any token on social media no matter who is posting it, I don't care if it's the authentic account or not I don't expect anyone should just swallow it hook, line and sinker.
Even real account are getting paid to promote fake tokens too.
haha I remember a little bit of an incident where I was once deceived by a project promoted by an Influencer who had millions of followers.
The memecoin presale looks convincing because it was promoted on his Ig Story which made many people enter and start ininvtasi, including me.

The stupidity is that I didn't do detailed research on the project, so in the end some strangeness appeared such as an earlier listing and even a hardcap has not been reached, it looks too rushed and when it comes to the day when the listing on dex will happen, the tokens are locked and the sale is only done by the dev only.

Really don't fall in love with any social media or any influencer with a lot of followers, do your research first before buying any coins, this has been a valuable lesson for me to date.

The increase in fraud of all kinds on the X platform indicates the platform team's negligence in protecting users. I see that they are only interested in collecting Premium subscription fees regardless of making it a safe platform and deterring scammers.
Scammers existed before blockchain industry begin and succcess of cryptocurrency market and before Twitter started, then rebranded to X with many strategic and infrastructure changes. Scammers only use X platform as one of their favorite places for scam activities.

If the platform had strict policies against fraud and against the deceptive methods used by scammers, and they had stricter conditions and procedures and a thorough review, especially for the accounts of government officials, ministers, and high-profile figures, we would not have seen such scam operations.
There are scammers everywhere, on X, on Facebook, on Bitcoin forum as well as other forums and more. Scammers don't need to find weakness of platform to do their scams. They don't lose anything if they don't scam potential victims successfully. Scammers usually spend zero or very low initial cost for their scam, so if their scam attempts fail, they don't lose anything or lose very limited initial money.

Scammers wouldn't be able to obtain verification so easily. However, what I see is that X has proven its failure under Elon’s leadership and has become overrun with scammers so everyone must be careful and not rush to trust any account there or the tweets being posted there.

X should have been more careful with this. Scammers penetrating their platform and innocent account were vicitimized and use as a scammers account. Posting memecoins on official account, I wonder those Peoppe got used due to their status. Trump started this and some are probably copying it problem is these follow up dumb are scammers and the innocent one are the victim.
On social media X is a hotbed for fraudsters as well as a lot of more relevant info there ... how should we respond and be careful of some X who promote unclear memecoins especially on behalf of the head of state.

Believe me meme coins will never be profitable in the long run ... ok maybe you escape because of the big profits but one day you will be trapped in unclear memecoins aka scams.

These island scams are getting lazy hackers took over official accounts to pump fake "national coins" in Bermuda and Cayman.
At least with Milei's token it was a real launch only that it was a massive rug pull but  these are just straight up hacks pushing scams.

Not surprised there that scammers used the name of someone known or famous to launch a fake token to scam victims. It's mostly accounts that being hacked this is the first time I came across or know that a scammer didn't hack an account but create one. I haven't check the profile on X so I didn't know if it's verified or not. We should always think not to be too easily get fooled or to easily trust other without checking them first.
According to the whole story, the scammers went as far as getting the X account verified not just with the normal blue ticker but with the ticker, which is meant to represent government officials, aside from the number of followers that the account has. That alone could have made the scam scheme very believable and less suspicious, but the original identity owner noticed it and raised an alarm about it, which has jeopardised the plan of that scammer.

This is the same as the Saudi prince launching a memecoin where the Saudi pricne twitter account shill the memecoin while the real Saudi prince claimed his account in twitter was hacked.

Seem like they are already promoting celebrity memecoin ike Hawk Tua and then its a fake memecoin. Quite timely while Elon also own twitter. It could either be Elon not making the accounts secure or it him behind all these. Of course this is very crazy accusation from me.

That is to say that there are professional scammers that are far reasoning beyond unbelievable. So anyone standing out with any potential values that is liable to attract scammers is just best safe to always be concious at be watchful at anytime of being in the watchlist of scammers without waiting for them to strike first, we  don't even need to know their strategies because most at times they strikes at where we don't believe they would.
Who would imaginably believe the possibility of this scammer with highily level of impersonation?
See, the 51K followers of this scammer is huge enough of him making a lot money from them and I think it is such a huge number of followers that is feasible enough to believe the fake account was an official one.

Is there something we would not see on X? We have seen many accounts that were hacked but this one is different because the account was not hacked but created by the scammer in the name of Bermuda Premier, David Burt to promote a fake token.

What that makes this surprising is because the scammers created a new X account and the account is checked (or marked) grey which means it it belongs to government official. Even David Burt X account is not checked in grey. Although government officials need to to have official account on X which I think the government official will need to request for it.

A scammer posing as David Burt, the premier of Bermuda, created a fake profile on the X social media platform to promote a fraudulent token called "Bermuda National Coin" to users.

On Feb. 14, premier Burt became aware of the scam account, warned users of the malicious actor, and tagged both the platform and Elon Musk in a message bringing the impersonator to their attention.]A scammer posing as David Burt, the premier of Bermuda, created a fake profile on the X social media platform to promote a fraudulent token called "Bermuda National Coin" to users.

I mostly fear this kind of scam attempts because you won't know you're relating to another person who have taken charge through impersonation, that is why we have to be very careful on those we follow and receiving offers from them, sometimes they got their account being compromised and the hackers take charge of posting offers on their behalf, hackers know how they can make fake things looks real, because they know if they don't do so, you may suspect on them for such attempt to scam, they are now perfect in using tricks like this.

Another case of impersonation, but how the hell did that account got that badge.
I want to believe that X(Twitter) makes demand for personal info while verifying ones account, or am I missing something here. I can remember another case of Peter Dinklage(Game of thrones actor), who said that he found out that someone created a fake Instagram account with his name, with over 4.5 million followers. I wonder how some people manage to pull this trick off for a long period of time, without these social platforms noticing them.

And sadly, the launch of fake crypto project has been the perfect scamming strategy.
These scammers know how large some celebrities' fan base can be, and so, many of these fans don't even bother verifying things properly, as they completely trust the supposed celebrities. Social platforms has alot to do, and the suppose fan base also have alot to do.

I wouldn't be surprised if such a thing happens on twitter (x) because as we know the check mark or tag is something that could lead many people to believe that profile is real. To me I understand from the very right time Elon decided to start accepting payment for check mark has now created more room for scammers to easily impersonate someone and request for easy checkmark, because this checkmark can now be bought and quite easy for scammers to use someone else real name to make account and scam the general public.
